Yes, the Emily..

the only good plane built by japan

Take out the fuel (range of 12 normal, 18 extended sounds good), put in 2 more torpedo hardpoints, add some armor and more 20mm guns, and...you have a plane that can shoot down F6Fs and sink essex carriers. Should have built about 10,000 of them.

Instead.. they built 167.. and some of them as transports.. oh.. and Emilys don't need an airbase, just some water
and a few submarines to refuel (should have been a war-winner)

Always easy, isn't it. Time and time again, someone is always so kind as to point out how so stupid were the actual historical figures who consistently made the wrong decisions. If the historical figures hadn't been so stupid they would simply have said abracadara and all the annoying distracting pressures would have vanished.

Oh yes, just add more guns, torpedoes, armour. There will be absolutely no increase in gross weight and consquently no deterioration in flight characteristics. They'll just brush aside all those flimsy Hellcats on CAP.

Increase production to 10,000 units. No impact on production of other plane models from different manufacturers. No problems in finding and training the aircrews for such a significant multi crewed airplane, after all, just like in AE, all you need is one crewman the same as required for a Zero. Plus all that additional armour (and torpedoes and guns) is easily forthcoming, what with the samurai code, who needs any armour on any other Japanese weapon system.

What were they thinking back then. They clearly deserved to lose because they just could not manage their resources both efficiently and effectively.

Emily carries something like 6 tons of fuel.. - cut that in half and you got 4 torpedoes and some more armor

yeah just build emilies, all other types were junk (betty, helen, sally, peggy, ginga, kate, val, judy, jill)
you can find 40,000 engines if you put all Japanese strike AC together - the rest were all junk (marianas turkey shoot anyone?)

even without the extra armor, emily could survive hits from a P-39D 37mm gun, and needed a squadron of hellcats to bring down - basically the same as a B-24

plus, emily needs the same # of pilots as betty.. yeah.. japanese were stupid that's why they lost the war

Way too slow to survive against fighters let alone combined heavy + light AAA. Just a flying target, even if one that usually needs more than 1 burst.

No one wins any war with one piece of equipment multiplied by a huge number. It would be like saying Fletcher DDs were great so don't build any other warship and hope for the best when you encounter IJN CVTFs and Nettie patrols.

A giant float plane isn't going to win any war. Can you imagine one of those giants flying up to a CVTF with a BB like the North Carolina in it, and several cruisers, destroyers and the CVs themselves? You wouldn't need fighters. Just let em get in range of the 5 inch AA guns and 40mm Bofors. Night attack would be the only hope of getting close enough to hit anything.

Hey guys I doubt explanations are neccesary.

To me it sounds more like CS needed a vent because maybe one of his CV´s caught Emily originating
torps...

Nice link, Pascal. Bad landing though...

WTF?? Aw yes, and we would have shot down more Japanese aircraft at PH if Josh Hartett and Ben Affleck we're around in the 40s as well...

Pascal - BTW if this isn't cool, I don't know what is.

Probably should not have flown it in those conditions. But who can blame them. Like any kid, you just have to go out and try out that new Christmas present even if it is snowing outside. Very nice model.

Lucky they did not put and eye out.....

Shame in the game you cannot convert a sub to a 1 plane tender AV that would be cool...

especially if they were Japanese. Yup. Everything they built was crap.....except the Emily......and the electric toothbrush.

Yeah, some of the K boats should have some AV support so Emily can refuel at dot hexes

Really there were plans to build AV tenders that could carry 4 Emilies, but the program was cut down to just the Akitsushima that carried just 1.

Thats what them germans said about them B24s.. worked pretty well in europe (even without escorts did a number on the german fighter corps) Emily is fast

(and armor and lots of guns) It was betty that was relegated to night duties.. Emily could survive fighter attacks, watch some of the footage - a full squadron has trouble bringing down an emily, and in many cases, an Emily with engines damaged could just land on the water.

Personally my idea would be to use Emily to fire long-lances (many thousands of them at standoff range)

The main thing is, IJN atolls would have been harder to take.
Imagine the marshall islands, every atoll full of emilies and all the airfields full of zeroes.

500xA6M3a
1000xH8K2

approaching TF ..
allied player (or halsey) needs new pants

though you would need more koreans over there.. emily weighs as much as a B-17..

The B&V seaplane I gave a link for has a camera inside and is flown by the controller through that camera. This is called FPV R/C flying (FPV = first person view/video). The chase plane is also flown by FPV.

Wondering if the emily could have been used as some type of gunship / destroyer (sort of like the B25-J)

wing loading is less than 160kg/m2, put in the retractable floats (H8K3) and take out all the fuel, it could reach about 330mph.
Maybe 16x20mm in the nose with lots of ammo - would be useful against them B-17s, or PT boats for that matter

Exactly, because gunships in Europe were sooooooooo successful in destroying enemy CAP.
