.."Fuddy Duddy" went up for sale for about $3.5 Million. in 2005 ..

The real cost of a B-17 is not the Sticker price . they require lots of love and care relected in aviation support and supplies to keep them flying. About $5K per hour in 2011 terms ..

Ok back to the war ...

My neighbor bought Fuddy Duddy. It flew over my house (and his) about 3 weeks ago with a B-25 chase plane. The tail is pointed bright yellow and is HUGE. It looks like a flying tail with the rest of the plane stuck on as an afterthought. I am pretty sure it does not have a muffler either. It sounded like they were being gentle on the engines because it sounded like they were barely turning over.

I saw they guy on the toll road yesterday in his Lincoln with his driver. There are two toll road exits. One saves about 50 cents but you have to drive past the unwashed near the Target store. That is where I got off. As a social experiment, I watched where his driver exited. Anyone want to guess?

You have General Lyons as your neighbor ... He still has his 50K+ pension .. and a museum ..

I got to ride in the Liberty Belle when it visted Deer Valley Airport .. no stick time but got a great view of the Enginering gunnery postion . The Liberty Belle had an accident and is no more .. I hope the Fuddy Duddy fares better ..

8.1.1 HEADQUARTERS

These are all support troops (the much-maligned “brass” sitting in the rear). However, these
rear-area troops earn their keep in War in the Pacific, Admiral’s Edition™ by providing large
numbers of support personnel to support other units and for construction and logistics tasks.
They give combat benefits to combat units who are within a certain range, generally the same
hex, and enable more bombers to fly Missions from bases under their control. A unit can benefit
from its HQ, of which there are six types:

» Command - Helps in several ways. They help in giving a bonus to ground
combat. If no Corps HQ is in range of a ground unit, the Command HQ can give
a bonus like a Corps HQ if it is in range of a ground unit. If there is a Corps HQ
within range of the battle, and the Command HQ is within 2 times its command
range of the battle, it can add up to an additional 90% bonus to the Assault
Value of an attacking force for odds calculations. The bonuses are impacted by
the leaderships rating of the commander of the HQs. Command HQs are also
important for air replacements and upgrades (see section 16.2.3 for details).

» Army - Helps with ground combat. Ground units in range can gain up to
a 10% bonus to their Assault Value (whether attacking or defending).

» Corps – Helps with ground combat. Ground units in range can gain up to
a 10% bonus to their Assault Value (whether attacking or defending).

» Amphibious – Helps amphibious invasions suffer fewer losses.

» Naval – Helps to speed ship repair time.

» Air – Helps by allowing more aircraft to fly and allows more air units
to be based at a base with this type of HQ, coordinating aircraft
replacement/upgrades and supporting more groups at a base.

Because of its naval support squads and the range that their benefit is extended compared to being in a different type of unit.

Alfred

Michael has confirmed that the ship repair benefit from a Naval HQ comes from any squads it contains, not an inherent benefit (such as with Air and Ground HQs).

50K pension That made me laugh. The guy has a live-in chef who wears his chef costume to Pavillions AND a live in mechanic who keeps his antique cars running and gets to take them out for a spin.

I ran into the chef at Pavillions in the pepper section. He looks like Fabio.

"Ze peppers, zay are nice today, eh?"

I didn't know what to say to a real chef, plus I couldn't tell if he was a gay chef or a straight chef so I just said, "Oui"

I think he was pissed.

**************October 18, 1942************

A Jap CL and 2 DD raided Exmouth at night and sank 5 PT boats. The clever Little Yellow Bastards have deduced we are buidling up Exmouth. Next, there will be a night bombardment although they might be well advised to wait till it is level one. We can send the PT Boat squadron at Carnavon up there. We now have some AGP's at Carnavon.

Apparently, 102nd Eng. Bn. also has the instruction manuals (in both English and French) for the artillery at Port Hedland because they used up a couple of thousand rounds and didn't hit a single Goddamn LYB. They tried again today. I suspect they were long before so they set the elevation to exactly 90 degrees from horizontal today. Need I say more?

We sent in a few B-17's over PH today and they really smacked the LYB's. 8 B-17's can do as much damage as 6 medium squadrons. Broome was hit again by the B-24's from Alice. The 17's from Meekathara got scrubbed.

JJ makes no attempt to resupply/reinforce PH.....yet.

This business about Fabio the Chef brings up an interesting cultural question.

I could be wrong but I have a sense that few straight American guys would strike up a conversation in the vegetable section with another guy. Maybe in the beer section, sure, but not in the vegetable section. It just seems kinda....well...you know. Now, a good looking woman..well...that is another matter.

So here is the question. Would a straight European guy do that? I can kinda see for a chef who is really into vegetables, but still. Maybe that's why this Fabio guy seemed to be pissed. He tries to make friends in the vegetable section and everyone just thinks he is a creeper.

Yes, I know a good number of European men that would gladly welcome the opportunity for intercourse with such a handsome man behind the vegetable stand.

A good clean mind would insert "social" in front of "intercourse" but I suspect non-such exist who read this.

Maybe the question was too broad. We are not talking about talking to the grocer or salesperson or griping about prices. I am talking specifically about initiating a converstation about vegetables with a strange (as in unknown to you ) male customer.

Note also I am not talking about responding to the other party.

What if you are already hitched and you are really rich and you drink a whole bunch of Chateau de Chasselais and you develop a severe case of wine goggles and you father a child with a 50 year old illegal alien? Would that qualify as too much?

Depends on whether anyone finds out...

EDIT: I think sprior is safe from being rich, so he's probably safe. Unless you mean he's rich in years.

Both Admiral Lord Sprior and I are rich in experience. We both know all the good places to get your damaged ships fixed up.

Boatswain's mate Knutsen: Yeah, but it's still a ****ing flying fish.

CPO: Do you want seconds Knutsen?

Boatswain's mate Knutsen: Not really Chief.

CPO: Then EAT IT and shut the **** up unless you are some kind of ******* Admiral and nobody told me. We don't have any refrigeration.

My own medical group sent me a bill for $1.26

I saw another doctor in the group because I thought I was going to die. Apparently I was mistaken. After I stopped laughing at the bill I got in the mail, I felt sorry for the other poor schlub. A lousy $1.26 for a freakin' digital rectal exam. That's all he got? Especailly after I had cucumber salad and humus the night before.

Anyway, I went upstairs to the business office to have some fun. I get upstairs and there is a really cute 20 something working the counter. I am getting so old that cute girls don't make me nervous anymore.

Hi. I need to pay for my digital rectal exam. $1.26

Oh, hi Dr. Mandrake. Did we send you a bill?

No, a big guy named Lucha came to my door. He sounded like this. <I do a wiseguy voice>

Oh, I'm so sorry. It doesn't look like we sent this account to collections.

At this point, I am thinking, "Hory crap! Do we really do that?" She looks genuinely concerned..and cute..did I mention that?
I decide to let her off the hook.

Oh, no, I was kidding about the guy named Lucha.

Oh, I'm so glad. How would you like to pay that?

Well, I was hoping to set up some kind of payment plan.

A...payment plan?

Yes, maybe 18 cents a month or something?

Well...I'd have to check with my manager.

At this point the manager is listening from behind an open door. "MANDRAKE, QUIT BOTHERING MY HELP!" The manager used to be cute and she evidently isn't afraid of me either.

Well, it sounds like one of those times you hope everything does not come out alright...literally speaking...of course.
ps. I take it you did not inquire of the cute one any particular gel or ointment she might prefer for said procedure, you know, inquiring minds want to know.
