This is totally AMAZING! These were the first two games I had for strategy and this brings back some old memories. I play solo games for years with Panzerblitz and Panzer Leader. Another amazing Avalon Hill game is 'The Arab Israeli Wars'.

This is a great little site that adds a whole new flavor to the games. There are a lot of links that lead you to new maps also! There is a link for a new rules called Dunnigan System that look intresting. I just might have to dust off these two little gems and try out the new rules, counters and maps. Thanks Ketza for sharing this wonderful find.

Panzer Blitz + Panzer leader + first Credit card + 4th year Uni + pub-which-allowed-chess/games-so-they had-to-allow-us = Glory Days!

Note: We had to wrap up when the band started warming up :)

I remember riding my bike a mile everyday to the Post office checking for the France 1940 counter sheet to come in the mail I ordered from Avalon Hill through "The general" magazine!

These games can be played online or pbem using the VASSAL modules; I no longer have the games but remember them fondly.

My first commercial wargame was Panzer Leader. I still have it and play the occasional game with a friend.

Can;t find the Dunnigan System, could you post a link? D-Day was my first wargame, but when PanzerBlitz hit, I thought we were entering a golden age, play it for years.

Here you go Gung Ho, it looks like a good system thats more balanced for weapon sizes and types.  All the links appear to lead to pdf files so they can be kept on file

Did they ever address the spotting issue whereby you'd have to send a halftrack on a suicide mission up to the artillery in the woods in order to be able shoot at it? My memory is hazy...

I have Panzer Leader in my closet still, along with all my other board wargames.  If you recall the manual had a section on the "Macro Game" where you played with two sets of boards and three sets of counters.  Man that takes me back...

Arab Israeli wars was the third installment of the series, and made a bunch of rules modifications on spotting and artillery IIR.  Trouble was, the Israelis would just mop the floor with Arabs.  I boosted all the attack/defense values of the Arab tank units by 50%, using little pieces of masking tape to cover up the old values and handwriting in the increased ones.  They're still on the counters now.

Takes me back about 35 years or so. We've come along way but this old stuff is still pretty cool.

That dredged up some ancient memories that have been lost in the deep recesses of what passes for my mind. Panzer Leader taught a young kid what the meaning of TO&E was.

Went down to the Hobby Lobby and bought a bunch of stiff cardboard like paper and spent the afternoon going through the sites.  Got a couple spare inks for the printer and figured I would have a go at this updated Panzerblitz and Panzer Leader counters and maps.  Using the advanced rules from 'Arab Israeli Wars' I'm going to try and convince some of the locals at the game shop to try it out.  I love head to head games if and when I can find them

Thanks for the link, and good luck with the game. I've still got PB and PL, haven't play them in years, but just can't let them go!

Best tactical wargame ever. No, you couldn't shoot at a tank hiding behind a tree. You couldn't shoot at a tank hiding in front of a tree either. :) Unless you switched to the Panzer Leader / A-I wars rules which most of us did.

I still have some sets and counters. I played operation Fire Brigade (Nov 1943 liberation of Kiev) over a 5 day weekend once with 3 players per side using PB counters and PL rules.
