How does one do this? I was thinking about adding a base for the spratly islands. It served as a sub base for the japanese in rtl. There are no land hexes, so i can't add a base like i normally would. thanks in advance

If I understand your question it sounds like you want to make a minor mod to the game. This mod wold involve changing the locations file to add a base and modifying the map where the base would be located.

I have zero expertise in using the game editor (to add the base) but it sounds like you understand what you need to do there.

Modification to the map data files can be done using this editor.

If you also wanted to modify the map art files then you would go at that with the paint program of your choice.

If I were to try to do something like this I would look for an example island base that already exists that is as close as possible in characteristics to the one you want to add. I would use that as a guide/template and modify as needed to get it to be what I wanted.

I hope this helps.

You can do that. You will wind up with a "PWHEXE editor" sub folder in the "War in the...........Edition" directory. That's where you can move a copy of the pwhexe.dat (and the other map data files if you have need to mod them) to begin your work. As someone else has already noted it is highly recommended that you back up any files you intend to change before starting. I am so paranoid about my capacity for screw-ups that I make a whole new instance of AE and use that as my workspace.

Good luck and questions are welcome so no worries about that.

just wanted to let you know that everything works fine so far. Pretty easy to use may play with some rivers in the future, but got my sub base.

That is a fantastic program to use and easy to manage. Only suggestion i might offer is that you might want to make it a little easier to exit/close down the program. really no issue as it shut down fine from taskbar, but did spend several moments scratching and wondering what i was missing.

again many thanks Dave!

You are welcome. Thanks for the kind words. In reference to your suggestion I am not sure I understand. There is an exit button and you can exit via the window closure device in the top right corner of the window. Perhaps because there is no exit under the File pull-down menu? I would plead guilty to not being very standardized in my design and I will keep your suggestion in mind for the next iteration.
