I recommend Civil War General 2. I conquer, though I may be totally blinded by nostalgia... so keep that in mind. But it's always been one of my FAVOURITE hex war-games, especially of the Civil War replicas. It wasn't perfect, has a few bugs here and there with the HQs, but was very easy to learn, with enough complexity to keep you entertained for hundreds (if not thousands) of hours. quote:
I find it insane that no independent developer has developed a game similar to this title. I simply could never figure that one out either... I guess due to copyright issues? quote:
Post #: 4 No its not copyright. They can make a similar title with a different name. I was developing such a title with no legal issues. I believe its that independent strategy wargaming developers are set in their ways ... making the same games just with a different name. How many games do we have like Close Combat, Gary Grigsbys War Between The States, strategy space games, etc. Developers need to innovate. Especially now as many developers are going out of business for failure to do so. U can't just replicate a game over and over because the first 1 did good and expect people to be wowed. We need to push what strategy wargaming can do. Civil War General did that, as well as Sid Meirs Gettysburg. What they need to do is take those concepts and push them even further. Lay out what Civil War General did good and build on that. Remove its shortcomings and add features that will 'shock & awe'. Provide a game that has a quick learning curve (cause no one wants to spend 5 hrs learning how to play a game - Honestly Im a devoted Wargamer and I get frustrated learning how to play some of these games), but yet mix in detail and complexity that the in-depth war gamer wants. Also developers need to move with the times. You have hundreds of millions of people using iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad, android, WP7, etc. and only a few studios are releasing titles in that area. Why? I spoke with a few developers, who mentioned to me their unsure about the market, if they would make a profit. Well speak to the developers who published titles such as 'Pocket War', 'World in War', 'Romance of The Three Kingdoms' and you'll see that your missing out on a bustling market. Another thing. I go to the yearly Gettysburg reenactment in Gettysburg, PA, where tens of thousands of people go to partake in the largest reenactment on continental United States. Why is it no developer takes advantage of this untapped market. Send a marketing team them... expose your products to the public who will buy them. You'll sell more copies of your title in a 3 day period than you have sold per quarter or even per year. Cmon developers jump up and wow us. We want to see Games we haven't seen before... revolutionize this industry. Making it pop again. Its been done before. Heck a few years ago a few kids got together and took it upon themselves to make a new 'Sid Meirs Gettysburg' and not only did they make it, but they marketed it to the casual gaming audience. And guess what they did so well the publisher signed them to develop a sequel. Those games became known as Take Command 1861 and Take Command 1862. If you need some inspiration hire a new designer. There are a number of them out there eager to make a name for themselves. Don't settle for the same old same old. Heck if you need ideas contact me I worked in the industry I can offer you great ideas.
