M60 and Farfarer volunteered to show me ( fulkerson ) how to play better. Farfarer is the Axis and M60 is going to act as the inspector general of the Soviet side. As far as I know we're all patched up to the 1.05.40 beta version.

Far sent me his turn 1 moves last night and I did my moves and then hit the "end turn" button from habit and sent the file to M60 for him to do his moves. D'oh. I'm learning to send a save file instead of the ended turn file.

In order to show M60 what I did during my turn I put together an HTML document. It's about 20 Megs big.
You can find the turn 1 document here: http://www.mediafire.com/?n54tn6bif1z83j4

And I thought I'd create an AAR from the pictures and verbage I sent to M60 already.

I moved all the planes that weren't on frozen air bases to the National Reserve.  Several HQ's got some new SU's ( those I could assign without spending any AP's ).  Several players can diagnose the Axis side and tell which units are from which formations and where all that stuff is headed and I'm not all that versed in this game yet.
Far has formed several pockets and has made a really good start.  Especially down south in the SouthWest Front area.

Here's my game plan so far. The thick blue lines are where I'm guessing I can make a stand of sorts. The thin blue lines are estimated paths where selected units should go.

Nice opening by your enemy, looks like carbon copy of mine hehehe.

Your keys Larry are holding his AGN panzers around Leningrad past turn 13.
Holding the river line in south past turn 7.

If you don't do those two things the PZers from AGN and AGS can be sent to AGC with more then enough time to take Moscow.

There's been a rash of changing planes from something, almost anything, to U-2VS's. I need to set the upgrade flag to manual for the airplanes from now on. It needed to be manual last turn but I neglected to do it. D'oh.

The 21st Mechanized Corps HQ has a motorcycle SU, and several AA SU's that I wouldn't care to have in the HQ so I'm settiing the support level to 0. Next turn, or after all the SU's are gone I'll adjust the number and type of SU's for the 21st Mech. I gotta remember to do that.

Far made a few pockets this time and one of them was near Minsk. I moved a unit a little ways and broke the pocket. Now I'm trying to
think of a way to isolate his spearheads.

If I can't stay in front of his pushes maybe I can isolate his spearheads. The isolated dudes are circled in red.

I found some I-153's at 4 SAD so I thought I'd just add to it. I upped the aviation committment to 9 and clicked on 'move' and all of a
sudden I had an airdrome's worth of planes there. A bomber ( U-2VS on night missions ), an attack unit ( IL-2 ), and lots of fighters. I'm using the IL-2 as an experiment, a probe of sorts. I'm going to be watching how the losses go and if and when the Axis threat goes down I'll consider putting bombers on daylight missions but for now the bombers fly at night.

Here's what's in Leningrad still to be railed out. I'm hoping that M60 has enough rail cap left to move at least the Armament points out
of there. I'm leaving the railing out of industry to M60 since he's the one that has the plan.

There's also some Armament points that need to be moved out of V-town near Leningrad. I'm leaving an audit trail for M60 so he knows which places I would wish some rail movement to take place in. Or at.

Did I happen to mention that I set all the HQ's support level to 0 to force all the SU's to STAVKA and I set the support level of
STAVKA to 9 to be able to hopefully hold it all. Then M60 and I can do a tour of the front to distribute the SU's out equally to
everybody, or at least to the more important parts of the front.

I need the opinion of the community on this one. Here I have the choice of moving the 163rd Mechanized into the city of PSKOV itself
to benefit from the urban terrain, and being on the far side of a river from your attacker or I can leave it in the hex where it is and take
advantage of the level 2 fort. I honestly can't decide which is better. I'm leaving him where he is for now.

I gave some planes to 2 SAD and then debated whether or not to move it closer to the front lines but thought maybe I should perhaps
leave it right where it is now.

I made a mistake with the 6th VVS air base. I put some IL-4's there before I remembered I wanted to post all the IL-4's to the Moscow
area so they could reach almost anywhere on the map. I gotta remember to move those next turn.

Of all the planes we have in the force about 148 groups of them are still in the National Reserve. Slightly less than half, just in case
M60 wants to deploy some planes from the Axis Ally No Move Line and southward.

Much stronger in Pskov. If it's left where it is it's an oportunity for the Germans.Pioneers will probably reduce the fort and the 163rd will almost certainly rout.In Pskov it's a tough nut to crack and expensive to go around providing that you keep the infantry divisions to the North and South where they are and move another into the swamp to the SE.If it was me I'd leave 163rd out of Pskov altogether and move my best infantry division into the city and I'd put a decent infantry division (2+CV) into the swamp to the SE.This will probably cause the Germans to either waste time going around this position or suffer heavy casualties and delays going through it.
Another thing Larry, you need to defend deeper when faced with strong opening moves from AGN like you had here.Get most of the stuff in behind the rivers. If they go North you can quickly build formidable defences North of Lake Peipus.

Thanks for your post Timmyab.  I agree with everything you said and I value your opinion as I'm still a rank beginner at this.  Sort of.

Those U-2 transport planes are short range, like the other versions of U-2s ( about 9 hex radius from their base ).  They may not have the reach to make drops for partisans.

Yes, I agree that U-2's are almost useless. I like to change them to LI-2's or T-3's ( ? ) or something else, almost anything else. But I can't bring myself to disband them as they might be able to fly some fuel to somebody who needs it. And there is already a shortage of transports on the Soviet side. I'm flying all my transports on night missions and even then I'm loosing a few of them each turn to 'operational losses'. I guess that means that they crashed on the night landing attempt or something.

RE: U-2 Transports, one use they have is that new Transport units will form with those planes. Leave them in the National Reserve to train, and THEN flip them to better transports. That will limit your ops losses.

For the most part, though, you should use Level Bombers for partisan drops. You have much more of them, and can afford high ops losses

Those TB-3 transports aren't in production, are they? Once they start crashing there are no replacements.
The Li-2 are built near Moscow; just one location, and they roll out at a slow rate.  C-47s don't start arriving until 1943.

Not a good situation for the long range transports.
