... The fact that in the animation the Oscars were immediatly driven off by defensive fire tells me these guys lack experince or the commander lacks air skill ..

Actually, the more likely explanation is that they have low morale. In AE low squadron morale doesn't usually stop the squadron from taking off, but it does often lead to the planes turning tail and heading back home upon encountering any resistance.

Major candidates for low morale for these Oscars might be their continuous round the clock operational tempo. This is where the unit leaders rating matrix plays a significant role. Probably the enemy leaders lack great leadership, aggression and administration ratings to mitigate against the constant flying.

Ahhh OK Great Feedback Admiral Alfred! I was postulating from my limited experince .. when my unit air commander had low ratings and my pilots were inexperinced my fighters did not engage but preferred to fly back to the O-club and have a tall one ... but other factors are clearly involved.

The good news is .. this is June 1942 and we are seeing these behaviors .. we still have the Tarawa problem that Alfred warned me about .. We are in the process of putting up some resistance in the Gilbert's . This will take a month or so. In the meantime the 24th Division will have to take some punishment.

Just a little update on the progress of the game.

We started on July 7th, and we have been at it for 123 days. During that time we have 176 turns completed at one turn representing one game day. That is 1.43 turns per real life day. This is actually moving along at a pretty good pace.

Today we work more on logistics and getting stuff in position to provide a flexible response in the Fall of '42 ..

******************************************* 02 JUN 1942 ***************************************************

The night begins with a raid on Akyab. One thing that is very broken in this game is night bombing attacks. One can bomb with impunity and from a gaming sense is makes the ability to do something without consequince. I do not mind night raids but operatoinal losses should be much higher.

Night Air attack on Akyab , at 54,45

Weather in hex: Overcast

Raid detected at 33 NM, estimated altitude 11,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 10 minutes

Japanese aircraft
Ki-48-Ib Lily x 15

Allied aircraft
Hurricane IIb Trop x 9

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-48-Ib Lily: 5 damaged

No Allied losses

Runway hits 2

He hits Daily Waters in Oz ..

Afternoon Air attack on Daly Waters , at 76,131

Weather in hex: Light cloud

Raid spotted at 22 NM, estimated altitude 12,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 6 minutes

Japanese aircraft
Ki-48-Ib Lily x 37

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-48-Ib Lily: 4 damaged

Airbase hits 3
Airbase supply hits 11
Runway hits 24

We take a swipe at an armored unit moving in the open:

Morning Air attack on 7th Tank Regiment, at 77,130 , near Daly Waters

Weather in hex: Overcast

Raid spotted at 22 NM, estimated altitude 13,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 6 minutes

Japanese aircraft
Ki-43-Ic Oscar x 8

Allied aircraft
B-17E Fortress x 12

No Japanese losses

Allied aircraft losses
B-17E Fortress: 1 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
Vehicles lost 20 (3 destroyed, 17 disabled)

Morning Air attack on 21st Ind.Mixed Brigade, at 76,129 , near Katherine

Weather in hex: Partial cloud

Raid spotted at 14 NM, estimated altitude 12,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 4 minutes

Allied aircraft
B-17E Fortress x 4

No Allied losses

Japanese ground losses:
69 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 4 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

The lost tanks add up. We are smacking tanks in Burma and here in Oz with air based ground attacks. I am not sure if the economy was set to replace these guys or not.

Tarawa gets their daily dose of bombardment ..

Afternoon Air attack on Tarawa , at 136,128

Weather in hex: Severe storms

Raid spotted at 9 NM, estimated altitude 14,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 3 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 8
G3M2 Nell x 13

No Japanese losses

Airbase hits 1
Runway hits 12

Afternoon Air attack on Tarawa , at 136,128

Weather in hex: Severe storms

Raid spotted at 17 NM, estimated altitude 11,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 5 minutes

Japanese aircraft
G4M1 Betty x 16

No Japanese losses
Port hits 4
Port supply hits 1

Then we get another shot at a CV but we know how this story goes ...

Sub attack near Ponape at 122,116

Japanese Ships
CV Akagi
CA Suzuya
CL Abukuma
DD Amagiri
DD Kasumi
DD Arare

Allied Ships
SS Trigger

SS Trigger launches 4 torpedoes at CV Akagi

Lots of reinforcements are coming into the Marshall's ...

ASW attack near Eniwetok at 124,109

Japanese Ships
TB Sagi
xAP Kowa Maru
xAP Dairen Maru
xAK Nittai Maru
DD Tsuga

Allied Ships
SS Plunger

Finally in Oz we scare a submarine into a torp attack against our ASW squadron ..

Sub attack near Newcastle at 93,167

Japanese Ships
SS I-171, hits 1

Allied Ships
DD Shaw
DD Peary
DD Monaghan

SS I-171 launches 2 torpedoes at DD Shaw

That will be an extra day in the pen to fix ...

The Akagi is and probably the whole KB are still in the Gilbert's ... this just presents more targets for my submarines.....

Estimated time to target is 41 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 15
G4M1 Betty x 17

No Japanese losses
Airbase hits 1
Airbase supply hits 1
Runway hits 2

The IJNAF has committed 45 Zero's and 17 Betty's to harrarss PM ...

================================================================

This is a huge month for refitting ... many of the merchant ships will be upgraded in AA and this takes 14-28 days. In the meantime I have to keep the logistics going and manage supply. These upgrades are good so reducing operations while refitting seems logical.

We continue to slowly use our ADP's to position the Pacific Ocean HQ in a secret location along with staging BF's. This is a rather slow process unitl we can project more airpower over the Gilbert's. One other problem is that aat the end of this month we have to bring in more II USAAF fighters to replace the POA fighters withdrawing ..

More later ..

****************************OZ 04 JUN 1942 *********************************************

Despite a shortage of supply up the roads from Alice Springs to Tennent Creek we are getting in 30 supply per day by air not enough to maintain a campaign but enough to make the IJA's day.

B-17's continue to bomb an armored unit trying to flank Daily Waters while BF's run away south toward Tennet Creek. This airfield will soon be at level 2 and though lacking supply will be able to fly minimal fighters to intercept the Oscars soon to be stationed at Daily Waters. I strongly feel that the ground bombing campaign has struck a notion with the IJA that they have to LRCAP thier gorund forces. Daily Waters is the only place to do this. We will make this a place of pwer projection with fighters and B-17's.

It will take quite awhile and they will lack supplies but we will have a division plus at Tennet Creek. Then we can meet the IJA thrust and destroy these two units. Clearly going on to Darwin will be impossible. But right now the road is providing enough supply that the units are not depleting supply moving. We shall see what happends when we get to Tennet Creek. A quick smashup and destruction of two LYB units and then retreat the division to Alice Springs for redeployment. A Militia unit should be able to hold Tennet Creek at that point.

It takes a long time for a plan to develop in this game. But it is unfolding ....

Nice work pounding the armor units.  I think bombing is a little to potent, but just wait you will have your turn at it.  PM is hard place to stand and fight.  Watching you on this one.  I look forward to your updates keep it up.

We are going to need at least 2 more squadrons here to assure supply. Really my bad because it is much more important to protect the day convoys then resist the night attacks.

But ...

We hit the Lilly's hideout ..

That would be 13 airbase hits, 5 supply hits, and 27 runway hits ..

No attack on Tarawa?

This little tibit is worth reporting 900 LYB's die in the surf ...

The coup was that I just moved ASW from this position ..

Submarine attack near Pearl Harbor at 182,104

****************************************************** 05 JUN 1942 *************************************

What is interesting is that I am getting "operational losses" reported for the Lilly's (in Burma? or maybe its Oz?) but they seem to keep coming back. Also we are allegedly killing Lilly's on the ground .. but again 16 show up over the skies of Akyab at night ..

Night Air attack on Akyab , at 54,45

Weather in hex: Extreme overcast

Raid detected at 36 NM, estimated altitude 5,000 feet.

Estimated time to target is 11 minutes

Japanese aircraft
Ki-48-Ib Lily x 16

Allied aircraft
Hurricane IIb Trop x 9

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-48-Ib Lily: 5 damaged

No Allied losses

In turn, during the day the RAF hits Mandalay where I think they are coming from ..

Morning Air attack on Mandalay , at 59,46

Weather in hex: Heavy cloud

Raid spotted at 34 NM, estimated altitude 11,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 11 minutes

Japanese aircraft
no flights

Allied aircraft
Blenheim IV x 63
Hudson IIIa x 11
Hurricane IIc Trop x 4
Wellington Ic x 16
Kittyhawk IA x 3

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-48-Ib Lily: 1 destroyed on ground

Allied aircraft losses
Wellington Ic: 1 damaged

Airbase hits 8
Airbase supply hits 4
Runway hits 16

That is 2 Lilly's in 2 days ..plus intelligence reports 5 damaged in last nights raid. We shall see ...

Tarawa:

The bombers come ..

Afternoon Air attack on Tarawa , at 136,128

Weather in hex: Light cloud

Raid spotted at 8 NM, estimated altitude 7,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 2 minutes

Japanese aircraft
G4M1 Betty x 17

No Japanese losses

Port hits 21
Port supply hits 2

Afternoon Air attack on Tarawa , at 136,128

Weather in hex: Light cloud

Estimated time to target is 7 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 9
G3M2 Nell x 12

Japanese aircraft losses
G3M2 Nell: 1 damaged

Airbase hits 9
Airbase supply hits 3
Runway hits 14

In other news in the Pacific Oceans area ..

Sub attack near Ponape at 117,113

Japanese Ships
xAKL Taiyu Maru

Allied Ships
SS Greenling

SS Greenling launches 2 torpedoes at xAKL Taiyu Maru

---------------------------------------------

Sub attack near Ponape at 117,113

Japanese Ships
xAKL Tama Maru #2, Shell hits 6, heavy fires, heavy damage

Allied Ships
SS Greenling

The commander of the Greenling takes down a full unescorted xAKL trying to resupply Ponape ..I think full because the first shot ignited the cargo "heavy fires" and the sounds of IJN merchants swiming ended the encounter .... This is one advantage of putting USN submarines in merchant lanes rather than trying to intercept capitol ships .. they can at least use guns on unarmed merchants ..more likley to happen out here in the small atolls with port level 1 ..

I am right now a full two months off from completing the first phase operations here. That is establish interlocking fighter bases and have a base sufficeint at Tabetuea to project long range bombing into the Marshals. By next week the PBY's will be carring Torpedoes and start making an impact beyond naval search.

There is an immediate tatical problems to solve here. I did not drop Radar off at Tarawa in the first run. So an operational objectiive is to get Radar on Tarawa. To do this I have to keep with the estbalished plan of interlocking fighter bases. The first base post Tarawa is Albemama. Once Abbemana is esblished then we can drop a BF with Radar, Naval support .. etc that has been prepping for this base.

I have decided to upgrade fighter aircraft and get the Wasp in theater before dropping BF's, Enigneers and Supply on Albemama. 500 fighter aircraft and upgraded BB's escorting the trnasports .. the CAP is going to leak for sure but hopefully the prewar BB's absorb the torps and no carriers will sink to a Betty torp run ..

Everything has to be upgraded first before we engage ... especally the transports ..

But a fighter base on Albemama negates the free bomber runs on Tarawa ..

In Oz the Lilly's here decided to bomb an empty airfield ..

Afternoon Air attack on Daly Waters , at 76,131

Weather in hex: Partial cloud

Raid spotted at 44 NM, estimated altitude 13,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 13 minutes

Japanese aircraft
Ki-48-Ib Lily x 36

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-48-Ib Lily: 4 damaged

Airbase hits 2
Airbase supply hits 2
Runway hits 11

Eiher they have a secondary mission of airfield attack or .. they are coming from a long ways away ..

For the past weeks the IJNAF has been hitting Wenchow .. I suspect these planes are replacements for the CVE's and they are getting some live training .

Morning Air attack on Wenchow , at 89,58

Weather in hex: Heavy cloud

Raid spotted at 8 NM, estimated altitude 9,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 2 minutes

Japanese aircraft
B5N2 Kate x 5
D3A1 Val x 8
Ki-27b Nate x 4
Ki-43-Ic Oscar x 12

No Japanese losses

Port hits 4

One other thing to report is that on a rumor of a ship in port at Tulagi sets planniners to use 5 B-26 squadrons to practice bombing runs using Tulagi as a target ... with 2 port hits ... practice makes perfect.

Ok more later ...

Those Lilys are flying their secondary mission.

No airplane flying within its normal range will take so much time to reach its target as to tip it over into the afternoon phase.

Aircraft flying at their extended range are depicted on the combat report with an asterisk after their details of their dropped ordnance. No asterisk against the Lilys in the pasted combat report, hence they weren't flying at extended range.

Excellent Alfred!

To show the reader .. My attack on Tulagi is at extended range:

Aircraft Attacking:
4 x Hudson I bombing from 11000 feet *
Port Attack: 2 x 250 lb GP Bomb

The Daily Waters attack:

Aircraft Attacking:
13 x Ki-48-Ib Lily bombing from 8000 feet
Airfield Attack: 4 x 100 kg GP Bomb
23 x Ki-48-Ib Lily bombing from 8000 feet
Airfield Attack: 4 x 100 kg GP Bomb

No '*'

A very handy tibit to know ...

Interestingly the night attacks on Akyab:

Aircraft Attacking:
16 x Ki-48-Ib Lily bombing from 5000 feet *
Airfield Attack: 2 x 100 kg GP Bomb

I wonder if operations are flown from a base that does not have the base level to support bombers and causes them to operate at extended range .. also causes the little '*' to show up?

I will keep bombing Mandalay until I yield no more Lilly's ..and we build up Akyab for the next phase of this operation .. launching raids at Prome and Ragoon ... with air superiority eventually when we attack Manadaly the open hexes will present a huge difficulty to move troops from Rangoon .. where the Imperial Guards cohabitate ..

Yes. See second point paragraph on page 163 of the manual. Those Lilys hitting Akyab are flying from an airfield too small to support them and one of the penalties is that they are forced to fly as if they were at extended range.

Technically the asterisks denotes the aircraft is reduced to dropping only the reduced ordnance level/type. Reduced ordnance is automatic and only occurs when extended range is involved. Note that some aircraft sometimes use their alternative ordnance even though flying at normal range (eg no available torpedoes) hence why an asterisk is not technically applied to them but only to extended range.

Here is the situation 6th June 1942. Intel tells us that 4 bombers are still at Mandalay and this base is insuficent to support the bombers. We shall attack until he is able to pull them out or I smash them all.

The real key here is the ability to establish a level 7 base at Akyab and eventually have the 10th AF stationed here. This will enable HB to attack Ragoon and extend southward to interdict the Betty Bases.

I am getting a pretty good feel of the forces here. Right now we have 2 Corps total in India. The big thing is the establsihment of bases for which we support our advance (what in real life the first counter invasion lacked .. that and coordination).

Oz is concerning me from the fact we advanced just short of Tennet Creek and 50 supplies per turn is not sustaining operations. Burma has the same problem in that a lot of jungle is between us and Manadalay and supply is difficult to get flowing until Ragoon is taken. In Oz, supply by land is never going to happen.

I think the experiment in Oz will be what happends when two forces collide and neither one has sufficent supply? Does the defender always prevail? If I cut him off from darwin and that little road to Daily Waters we are both in the same boat. Except, so far my atacking force is not getting bombed every turn.

Ok more later ..

******************************** 06 JUN 1942 **********************************************

The IJN are applying sound principles and shutting down my uncorrdinated advanced. The problem is that I cannot project power no way no how at this point. Floating the Brit BB's into the Indian Ocean by Akyab will simply be sunk by Nell's let alone any real surface encouter ..

The air strikes continue now that my airpower has been wiped out at Akyab

Morning Air attack on Akyab , at 54,45

6 x A6M2 Zero strafing at 100 feet *

Morning Air attack on Akyab , at 54,45

Weather in hex: Heavy rain

Raid detected at 44 NM, estimated altitude 22,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 14 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 9

No Japanese losses

Aircraft Attacking:
9 x A6M2 Zero sweeping at 21000 feet *

I am not sure strafing was a good move given the amount of force used to reduce the base. It ate at least one zero maybe a second that will not make it home .. was not needed at all this base and what is left is not going anywhere ... Cox Bazzar to the north will be the surprise .. once estabished we will have the three bases to ensure resistance .. . I am sure Akyab will recieve lots of attention since it is not a level 5 base going to level 6 ... and can reach Moulmein with USAAF assests.

Some intersting things are happening .. the RAF is converting from Bombers, which at least project force . to Hurricanes .. which defend well but do not project power ... I had do not upgrade ... at least I thought so ...

The good news .. another day down toward '43

Probably the next 3 weeks will be more a turn a day maybe 1/2 a turn a day as RF gets very busy about this time. Think about those resident students in Grey's Anatomy and skip all the dramatic crap ...and you will grasp my next 4 months ... Stay tuned although ..

DOCUP: Ya .. my busy season is my "residency" [well NP vs. MD but you can get the picture]

Ok team I just sent my turn in ... unbeknowest to the IJ player .. Tarawa is fully recovered from the bomabrdment and air attacks. 2 TK's sit at Makin. Thus I have moved fighters to Tarawa and put one 5 plane squadron on escort duty. We are about to fly 45 B-25's from Tabatieua to Makin with the object of sinking these TK's. At the very least put the fear of God in them. In addition, Unescorted Betty's and escorted by 8 zero's Nell's are about to meet 25 P-40's averge experince of 60 with two top aces in the group. I am hoping for say 4 -5 planes each from the group of bombers to meet their fate.

I do have one problem still at Tarawa .. I need to move a real BF there ... The air support is a lame 24 .. what was landed when we got interurrpted by the KB. it will have to be a coordinanted amphib effort escorted by CV's and LBA's. The CV's are getting an overhaul and the planes are being upgraded uniformally. Mostly fighters ..production is 45 per month and I need 36 more Wildcat fighters to fill the CV air groups. We should kick this off starting with July 10th.

In other news we are manging the upgrades this turn... beans bullets and butts .. while resiting the IJ's last gasps being the superior force ... soon .. very soon the tide will turn ..

First, we actually experinced an operational result from our Stategic Plan!

Sub attack near Kusaie Island at 126,115

Japanese Ships
CV Shokaku, Torpedo hits 1
CA Suzuya
CA Mogami
CA Maya
CL Abukuma
DD Asashio
DD Amagiri
DD Asagiri
DD Kasumi

Allied Ships
SS Tautog

SS Tautog launches 6 torpedoes at CV Shokaku

That is at least 3 months in the Pen for this CV. At zero costs on our side!

Another strike misses ...

Sub attack near Kusaie Island at 126,115

Japanese Ships
DD Shigure
AO Toei Maru
DD Akebono

Allied Ships
SS Tautog

SS Tautog launches 2 torpedoes at DD Shigure

Our Tarawa gambit did not go well Our bombers did not fly and our fighters did not do well ..

Afternoon Air attack on Tarawa , at 136,128

Weather in hex: Heavy rain

Raid spotted at 26 NM, estimated altitude 16,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 10 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 8
G3M2 Nell x 15

Allied aircraft
P-40E Warhawk x 24

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 1 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
P-40E Warhawk: 2 damaged
P-40E Warhawk: 1 destroyed on ground

Airbase hits 2
Airbase supply hits 3
Runway hits 11

I suspect these two events will change how the IJ reacts in the near future. More Naval resources a coming ..

There are all kinds of IJ bombings in Oz and China ... and our boys did not go because of weather ...

More later ..

Not to be a buzz kill.  Shokaku might not have been damaged that bad.  I hit one of Koniu's CVs and it had light damage.  Try layering your CAP for better results.

just my 2 cents

Ya .. That is what I am thinking no critical hits, no fires and no sounds of LYB's swiming ..is pretty discouraging ..on the other hand ******* severe engine damage ******* does appear in the Annimation, no CV/DD escort TF is appearing .. and the Commander of the Tautog reports her as sunk!: (I hightly doubt this .. I say ... 3 months in the pen

The severe engine damage comment indicates that some major engine damage was inflicted. The quantum might be large, or it might be small. All that you can be confident is that with major engine damage she will have to go to a large port or a shipyard. The out of action time might be mainly comprised of passage time to a suitable location rather than time spent off line.

Of course you might have been very lucky, but the lack of other corroborating evidence suggests 3 months off line is a quite optimistic assessment. A more conservative estimate (assuming she wasn't sunk as reported) is 2-4 weeks out of the frontline eventually (but not necessarily immediately).

Well we have done hopefully one more thing .. put the fear of submarines as a true possibility in the mind of the IJ. Until this point the IJ has purposefully rolled over detected USN submarines thinking they are no real threat. This might have influenced the decision cycle. At the very least one CV is headed out of theater.

BTW) Even though the game reports the ship is sunk .. the air losses do not show the ground losses ....this ship is in some damaged state but not sunk ..

******************* Situation 8 JUN 42 Kusaie Island ******************************************

Just to give the reader a feel of the situation. Betty's and Nell's continue to bombard Tarawa but the base is now open. The IJ is now tempted to hit Tarawa with the KB but for the fact one CV is now damaged at some state less than perfect. In teh meantime submarines move into that magic 8 hex away position to at the very least send shivers down the IJ's spine.

As many readers have advised me -- my inital estimation of how long the 24th Division could last was very optimistic. On some turns we burn over 500 supply in a day depending on bombing die rolls. There is now 18K supply on Tarawa. Between now and the end of the month we are going to have to test the IJ's meddle and risk resupply. The good news is .. we are getting the upper hand -- slowly, but in 10 days the base was back to full operation after the IJ spent a tremendous effort to supress the base.

Its going to be a very close call .. Tarawa might be lacking double supply for a week or two while we muster the right forces to project enough power to continue operations in the Gilberts. This includes those AA upgrades on my merchant and capitol ships now rotating out of PH.

I will update Oz in a couple of days but that situation is developing with Townsville and Carnes reaching airbase status that will support B-17's. At that point Alice Springs will base nothing but Transport aircraft. ny59giants most certainly was correct .. that even with a massed air supply I am not sure I can project ground power to Daily Waters. Instead, Port Headland is a much more sutible base/port to project power from. Crackaces HQ has to relook at the strategy in Oz in conjuction with the Gilbert operations.

The really good news? This is scenarario #1 ... soon .. very soon... Allied forces will have the quantity to project serious pressure on IJ operations. March '43 and quality starts its effect..... Already just 40 B17E's stopped the IJ advance at Daily Waters with minimal B-17 losses but over 40 IJ AFV's lost.

********************************* 9 JUN 42 ****************************************

The turn was mixed for the Allies. Our P-40's at Tarawa did nothing to resist the Zero /Nell onslaught. Our Bombing of Makin did nothing to find those TK's parked there ...but in Oz we smacked

Afternoon Air attack on Makin , at 136,125

Weather in hex: Moderate rain

Raid spotted at 20 NM, estimated altitude 6,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 5 minutes

Allied aircraft
B-26 Marauder x 6

Allied aircraft losses
B-26 Marauder: 1 damaged

.....

Afternoon Air attack on Makin , at 136,125

Weather in hex: Moderate rain

Raid spotted at 15 NM, estimated altitude 5,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 4 minutes

Allied aircraft
B-26B Marauder x 6

No Allied losses

Port hits 5

Morning Air attack on Tarawa , at 136,128

Weather in hex: Severe storms

Raid spotted at 13 NM, estimated altitude 24,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 4 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 11

Allied aircraft
P-40E Warhawk x 16

No Japanese losses

Allied aircraft losses
P-40E Warhawk: 1 destroyed

Morning Air attack on Tarawa , at 136,128

Weather in hex: Severe storms

Raid spotted at 19 NM, estimated altitude 22,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 6 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 8

Allied aircraft
P-40E Warhawk x 8

No Japanese losses

Allied aircraft losses
P-40E Warhawk: 1 destroyed

Afternoon Air attack on Tarawa , at 136,128

Weather in hex: Heavy cloud

Raid spotted at 15 NM, estimated altitude 13,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 5 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 6
G3M2 Nell x 16

Allied aircraft
P-40E Warhawk x 13

No Japanese losses

Allied aircraft losses
P-40E Warhawk: 1 damaged

Airbase hits 6
Airbase supply hits 2
Runway hits 35

So we lose 2 P-40's to A2A . things get worse ... 3 P-40E Warhawks from 15th FG/45th FS are written off

But in Oz:

Morning Air attack on 21st Ind.Mixed Brigade, at 76,131 (Daly Waters)

Weather in hex: Heavy cloud

Raid spotted at 7 NM, estimated altitude 13,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 2 minutes

Allied aircraft
B-17E Fortress x 17

No Allied losses

Japanese ground losses:
347 casualties reported
Squads: 1 destroyed, 14 disabled
Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 35 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled

This has to force the IJ player to put stuff on LRCAP and curtail operations. More so .. we are slowly putting pressure on multiple fronts on TO&E production. Sure this is nothing compared to the thousands of losses experinced in the near future but a thousand here .. a thousand there adds up ...

In other news .. if you park your subs off my hotspots I am going to pound you ...

ASW attack near Colombo at 28,48

Japanese Ships
SS I-32, hits 4

Allied Ships
DD Inconstant

This is not enough to affect operations as no critical hits .. flooding etc .. but over time this sub will have to return to get repairs.

In terms of Intel .. I see "Heavy Volume of Radio transmissions detected at Truk (112,108)." I suspect the BB's are moving into the Gilbert's to do a bombardment mission. One other interesting Intel is that Midway is being scouted heavily .... I wonder ??? Scouting to Raid or invasion?

More later ....

D3A1 Val: 4 damaged

Allied aircraft losses

It might take my full CV force if he keeps the KB parked here .. my submarines even though we have parked so many is not discouring the IJ player at all ..we will need a CV battle ..

RF has slowed this game considerably. However, I finished a turn today and will update the reader to position.

The IJ player continues to challange our Submarine gauntlet. Next turn a BB SAG will bombard Tarawa and the KB will continue its air attack. Eventually 1943 will get here and this game will not be so one sided ..

*********************** 11 JUN 42 *************************************

I have 74 TK's right now . I am not sure what the critical level might be ..I am surprised this AMC has dodged the patrol craft and bombers set on Naval attack .. but now it is a mission to sink this guy ..
