I am currently playing 2 PBEM's. One of my opponents would like to upgrade to the latest Beta, but the other opponent and myself would rather wait for an official patch.
Is there at least a timeline for when an Official Patch may be released ?
For those of you who will say " Its no problem, just do it" I am the kind of person who when given directions that include the phrase " you can't miss it" will almost without fail do just that. So I would like to keep things in this complex game as simple as possible. An Official patch would do that for me.

I am currently running one game with the current beta and another with the official version also. I have two different installs, one for each game with their own save location, their own tracker 1.8, etc. Helps keep everything separate, even though I have accidently sent one player the other ones combat file... doh!

With attitudes like this, almost everybody mentioned here has zero chance of this....

What "attitude" are you referring to? All I took from the OP is a humorous statement indicating a desire to follow the "KISS" (Keep It Simple Stupid) principle.
The "Attitude" I was thinking of is a state of the mind.
1. Fear of the unknown. 2. Resistance to change for the sake of it. 3. Presumption that the approval of a Publisher outweighs the ongoing work of the original developers who are building the beta releases and their competencies.
All of these are implied by this degree of 'conservatism'.
I have no problem with application of KISS in general. In this case I think this is an exercise in camouflage.

Well I will say I don't FEAR getting beat up here for my thoughts on an Official patch as I am fairly RESISTANT to such. I do however believe the developers are doing an outstanding job and I PRESUME the Publishers would support their efforts with an Official Patch as they have done in the past.
My actual question was obviously hidden ( camo'd ) so here it is in the open.
Is there any timeline for when the next Official patch will be released ?
Thanks in advance for any and all input.

I'm with Patbgaming. As I developer myself, I don't play anything unless it's an "official version". I don't do betas in anything that I want to keep. I've been a beta-tester for Matrix, and as a beta-tester you EXPECT "results may vary". But in my "offical" games, I play "official" versions.
For that matter, I don't usually buy a piece of software, until the ~after~ the first patch.

Nah. You just haven't been here long enough to realize that waiting for the official patch is the sage approach. It's not window dressing or camoflage, for goodness' sake.
For your analogy to accurately reflect this game, the SAS motto would be , "Who dares gets their executeable hosed and finds unexpected LCU issues". Not quite so catchy.
I'm with the OP and Feinder on this one.

I am a software tester, you know, so I know what Loch-ness could be hiding in betas. I prefer official versions patched up with official patches. So the question for Santa is the same from me: When ?

I would like to ask Santa for a new official patch, also. I'm fine with using beta's, but Chickenboy is one of my PBEM opponents, and I'd have to ground all of my Allied 4EB's in trade for him moving to the beta.
ETA: I'm also a software tester.

Yes, official patch would be nice. My other opponent won't use betas...
I have absolutely no inside info, but michaelm is a coder, is or has been in contact with Matrix management, and I presume prefers officials over betas for himself, all things equal.
But, inferring, I think things aren't equal. Enough time has passed with dozens of betas to make me think that Matrix, which must pay the QA expense to go official, has told him that there will be one more, final, all-in official patch, and then AE is "done." Testing takes time and people and isn't free. Matrix has lots of newer games to put those assets against.
I'm not saying I wouldn't be fine with the r3 beta being the last. The game has come light-years from where it was when it shipped. But I wouldn't expect a series of official patches after this next one. I think he's trying to get all in that her can.

And your allied partner would probably demand a divorce!

I lean to this side of the camp. I was a software tester until laid off and think along the same lines. Though myself and four others are starting a PBEM soon, and it will be with the beta version (8r I think), that makes it the first time I ever played WitP in beta form.
