So I'm a little confused regarding building research stations at bonus locations now in Legends, in previous it'd give you the highest you'd found but now it seems you don't get anything from it if your Scientist character come with a higher one or am I missing something here?

Have +12% Weapons from character and just built a base at a gas giant with +10% weapons but the details in the research screen still says +0% from location, +12% from scientist.

Edit: So it's now a year later ingame, having moved my scientist from the space port out to a 'bonus' station I'm indeed receiving the location bonus but no longer the scientist one which brings me to another question...
Does the station in question have to be defined as either one of the 3 research type stations or a space port to gain the character effect?

(The one he is on now is defined as a gas miner, the bonus being on a gas giant I figured I'd get 2 for the price of 1 and simply add some research labs to my existing mining design.)

Edit 2: Edited for clarification, had misremembered what I built where...

The Scientist bonus should stack with the location bonus. I've been seeing that in my games. If you are not seeing that, it would be worth uploading a save so that we can investigate.

Per my testing and the intended design, the best results are from a base on a good location with a Scientist that has good bonuses at that location as well.

Regards,

- Erik

Hm, good question. I haven't tested it with another station type. A save file would certainly be handy for this.

I was toying with this last night, BIG TIME. I found that if you keep all the Research at your Home Planet (the labs in the Space Port plus the Research Stations in orbit), all of the Scientists stay at the Home Planet and the bonuses keep piling up. I kind of felt this was gamey, but I wanted to see others post on it first.

You might be saying to yourself that this overrides the Research Location bonuses.., but they are nothing compared to the Scientist bonuses for all techs that keep on adding on as new Scientists appear. I think I had my bonuses at astronomical levels last night. If I were at home, I could send a screenshot, but I think this is very easy to duplicate.

Tell me if I am missing something. I do not think I am.

There should be a point of diminishing returns with the synergy from multiple characters. It's still useful to have more than one character assigned to the same task, location or project, but it shouldn't scale linearly. If you are seeing it scale that way, that may be a display bug or another bug.

Regards,

- Erik

I will followup tonight. As you can see, I am goofing off at work. Hugely gooffing-off.

Thanks for the replies Erik. I've been messing around a little more with this game and with the help of the editor it was indeed the fact it was a Gas Mining Station that broke it, characters give the bonus without trouble for Research Stations, Resort Bases and Space Ports at least. One other thing though that I got confused in my first edit was the fact that having a Gas Miner with Research Labs provides no bonuses at all, not even the location one.

Well it would be a cheat as you would save the costs of maintenance and push it on to the public sector. Why not put a gasextractor into the research station blueprint together with a docking and commerce part. The ships should come and trade nontheless while getting the bonus.

Excellent point Nedrear, never even occured to me when I designed it that it would be a private station rather than state... Guess we can call that one WAD and move on.

Edit: If for some reason you still want to look at the save game file it's uploaded as Seraphim_Legends_Research.dwg
