Hey folks,

The full AE manual was made available to WITP owners to look at, but the link in the Members area doesn't work. Who can I talk to about fixing that? Thanks.

That is a strangely unhelpful reply coming from someone with almost 2,800 posts.

Anyone else?

Hmm... this community is normally more helpful. What's in the water today?

Let me be more clear using the attached image. Thanks to anyone who can actually help.

I believe that download was only available as a "preview" before the game was released.  It was likely removed from the server after the game was released, and they forgot to remove the link in the downloads section.

Thanks, guys. Strange that it would only be up temporarily, though. It seems like a good resource for figuring out whether to upgrade from classic WITP.

No need to read manual..AE wins classic WitP hands down. Especially if you play vs. AI.

The online manual is called Alfred.

Sorry Sarconix,  I couldn't resist it.  Anyways, the manual is a little outdated.  I have the hard copy and I sometimes look at the electronic copy that comes with the game.  I have not played the classic WITP.  So I cannot compare the two, but I will say that this is an excellent game.  I would go as far as to say that if you liked WITP you would like AE also.  It was the best 100 dollars I have pay for a game.  I would pay another 100 dollars for AE 2 or what ever.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the opinions, Sardaukar and DOCUP. On a related note, did anyone ever create some small scenarios for AE? Last I heard, you can really only play fairly large scenarios, which is a tough way to start.

Sarconix I started a PBEM with the Canal scen.  There are a few others to play also.  I started with the GC 1 againist the AI to learn the game.  Play and learn from my mistakes restart and do it all again.  If you want to play PBEM watch out playing the AI you do pick up some bad habits.  My 2 cents for you read some AARs if you haven't compare them with those from WITP.  If you think you will like AE buy it. Then sign your life away to AE. It is very addicting.

Not so ... there are more than a few small scenario's are now available. These include:
Marianas, Buccaneer (around Burma), Downfall(the end), Guadalcanal, 1000 mile (Kuriles), Coral Sea. And some more in the pipeline.(mid '42 start etc - check out the Mod section)

Some links on this page to wiki and Alternative mod sites:

While AE is a beast, and I mean a time sink for playing turns even more so that witp - it is worth the upgrade esp. during the sale period. Having said that some people do feel (not I) that AE is too much for them and prefer the relative simplicity of witp(stock). Be warned AE does more, is more, has more; providing the player a more immersive experience, yet is also asks more of us as players.

Cheers

DOCUP, Damian, thanks for the pointers. I had not heard about the scenarios since I've been out of the loop for a year or so. Indeed, I am looking into it now because of the sale. I know the value of the game is more than the cost, but I am also cheap.

Truth be told, I am actually looking at this as an upgrade from UV. I own WITP (also on sale) but was not sufficiently motivated to get far with it. So something of UV-scale, like perhaps these scenarios you are talking about, is what I am looking to start with.
