Oh how I can't wait to see this available, most likely will start my PBEM using this campaign.

You can ... Andy is "just" doing the AI module for the scenario. The first post has scen50 ready to rock n roll for PBEM. Although from my read I think there are still some things to iron out.

I have started a PBEM vs Aztez using this scenario. There's a AAR (The armchair strategists club, currently on p. 2 because aztez seems to be currently quite busy, low turn rate). So far, I haven't really met a major issue (although the dsitribution of shipping assets sort of leads to a slow start).

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Nikademus,

Can you please take a look at two threads in tech sub forum?
http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2910475
http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2923113
It concerns lack of proper upgrades for sound detector used by many base forces, type 95 light tank not upgrading into type 98 and typo in antisoft value of Type 2 light tank.

As you're readying a new official scenario that, IMHO, would be quite attractive and frequently played (frankly speaking, I'd play it myself as my next PBEM, being tired of the initial conquer to be made ), you can correct at least some clear errors found in the database.

The changes are fairly easy to make since this isn't one of the core scenarios ( 1 to 15 IIRC ) which isn't protected. Just make device 1467 upgrade to one of the earlier radars and then auto-upgrades will take care of itself.

Same thing with the Type 95s. I have all the IJA Tankettes and IJA Light tanks ( Type 95, type 98 etc ) upgrading to Medium tanks ( eventually all the way to the Type 3 ) by war's end. It'll help fix some signifcant issues. Just have to be sure to check the US and Commonwealth upgrades too. Some of the Commonwealth tank upgrade paths are pretty shattered.

Is this already fixed in DaBabes? My PBEM is 09_03_-42 and tracker says there are -103 sound detectors used and only 6 still in service.

Thx.....I'm trying to keep track of errata while Andy works on the AI. Plan on doing a revision in sync with the AI debut.

Yup, I know how to use the editor...
But what's official, its official.

I don't want to be accused of being a wrongdoer and messing with official data before finding an opponent. In old WITP days I always liked the may '42 scenario and think it would be quite popular. Finding an opponent for a mod is usually not that easy as finding one for official or quasi-official.

As more and more people reach later stages of grand campaigns, Nikademus has opportunity to beef up the scenario a bit or at least get rid of some clear errors in data.

Houston we have a problem

Full Desktop meltdown and backup external (full) 500 GB drive both gone

Takena week to get a laptop up and runing to get my turns going again
Initially looks like all my scen and ai files are gone including May 42 version and all the new development AI scripts.

Going to send the disk drives to a specialist data recovery service as losing both backup and main in 24 hours is a tad suspicious (main HD sourinding noise whnds pretty bad it has a major genever I try to boot from it so I think its toast as for th back up we will see)

Agreed. Really sorry to hear this. You and Micheal within a couple of weeks of each other. Obviously, WitPAE is tough on hardware.

John had a similar problem. There is a very vicious virus out there that looked like killing John's laptop and desktop. Same symptoms as yours. There is a fix to this, but it needs some executables on a DVD; and it has an app that restores file structures and the desktop, but it is not simple.

It blanks out your desktop; kills every toolbar; and acts just like a disk crash (and often like a program crash).

If you think you have this, shoot John a PM. He has addressed this particular virus and knows how to medicate it.

It wasn't that damn "System Fix" Trojan was it??

My teenage daughter used to go to her school friends for IT advice (such as peer to peer music download sites are were perfectly safe...) rather than go to her fuddy duddy dad with a software engineering degree who told her lots of things she didn't want to hear.

Three weeks ago she picked up the "System Fix" Trojan which totally incapacitated her machine as you describe. Fortunately for me it was a school loan netbook which was due to be returned a week later anyway. We just gave it back early to the school for their IT department to format and re-image!!! (though she did lose everything on it - fortunately the important stuff had been backed up).

Thank goodness she didn't infect the home PC with thousands of dollars worth of applications and heaps of irreplaceable data which I would have had to painfully recover. Hopefully she has learned a valuable lesson about IT security and that I was not raving on about nothing. It was cruel but I did use the opportunity to rub it in.

If this trojan is what you have, my reading of the internet indicates your data is recoverable but it is finicky to do and you may be better off engaging professional assistance if you are unsure what you are doing.

(and yes I should have child proofed the house but hey kids are only in my hose twice a year how was I to know !!!)

Nik I am going to have to start from scratch - we are trying to get back up and running but the HD is off with a specialist for checking but no idea if it will work or not

I'm guessing from the amount of time gone by the drive is kaput.
Would you have even a glimmer of an estimate to give?

Thanks.

Historiker and I are going to take Nik's May '42 scenario out for a spin in a PBEM match. He has corrected the missing ships that were in phantom TF's and I've granted him a few hundred extra planes for the Jap pools. He's also moved the Yamato and Musashi arrival dates up to what he considers correct. I don't care. More targets, earlier.

It seemed that the ASW changes to tone down the "Uber E's" are already included in the scenario, so it looks like we're ready to start shooting. There will probably be an AAR from the Japanese side, but still unsure about my Allied side.... time and all. If we find anything significantly "wrong" we'll post about it here.
