Don't forget the western Aleutians as he may try to cut off your resupply and reinforce efforts. That is the only other one that could be a possibility. He would to cut off the head (kuriles, etc.) before he could destroy it.

We're not looking at VPs so it doesn't really matter in our game....

But i have my full CVs in the kuriles...how can he avoid a fight if he goes there?

Anyway, in less than a week my CVs will be free from supporting landing ops and will be ready to defend anything he wanna invade from PH up to the Aleutinas. I'll use my CVEs to escort my convoys and my CVs as a mobile force.
Now i have so many CVEs that they may become a problem to deal with even for the KB...for sure the KB will win a fight, but i doubt it will come out without a scratch...and with my fast CVs around....well, it wouldn't be the safest strategy for rader.

Anyway, even if he invades the aleutinas (which are, btw, decently guarded and fortified), i don't think this will push me out of Okkaido...
The only thing that can really change the strategic situation now is a carrier battle won by japan

Oh, I'll be welcome him so...i just need some of those emergency reinforcements divisions...

Seriously...he could try...yes...but i really don't see how can he do that untill my CVs are afloat... i have 14 CVs and 10 CVLs roaming around

The more i think of it the more i'm sure Rader is up to something....i dont believe that he's not trying to interdict me in any way.... where is his fleet? What is he orchestrating? a counterinvasion somewhere else!? But where...which could be his targets? India is out of question... Oz?...the same i think...
The Solomons and NG are well guarded and well defended...

The only place i see where he could try something cray is PH... but can you really imagine to invade PH in mid 44?!?!

It is hard to imagine that Rader would plan anything other than a move to defeat your invasion. Right now, you could lose Pearl Harbor and it would not alter his strategic problem in Northern Japan. I can only see him moving to attack Hokkaido or your supply lines. Nothing else makes sense or will benefit him. You can turn over all of OZ and India to him now and he will still lose the game if you are allowed to bomb his industry.

Once you think you are secure enough in the North, I suggest a move to threaten his oil production. If you capture Siboret Island and a few surrounding islands for support then you will have a level 9 airfield and your bombers will be in range to all the DEI oilfields. Rader will have no choice but to remove fighters from Japan to defend his oil fields. If he does not then he will be faced with another dilemma. The denial of DEI oil means slow starvation for the Japanese economy anyways. He can choose his poison..

One other thing, I have yet to find any difference between normal fighters and night fighters in night actions. You will be just as well served using the smaller British and Aussie squadrons as night fighters as you would any designated night fighter unit. Basically any unit on night patrol will not shoot down much but will turn un-escorted bombers away and lessen the effect of the ones that do bomb. P39s are good for this as well.

And this begs the question that I really don't know. Once in range of Japan's industry what targets are the most efficient to bomb? That is, what key industry should be hit first-refineries, resources, manpower, factories or shipyards. What do you think fanboys?

A fast and brief update...very little time today.

We made our first skirmish against his troops north of Hakkodate...2200 AVs...nearly 100k men...

In NG Rader set up a little counteroffensive. The 1st Guards Div attacked, after an heavy air bombing conducted by 140 Helens, a NZ bde, pushing her Back towards the coast. We're sending the 27th US Division to deal with those buggers. Rader lost 26 helens due to my badly coordinated leaky CAP (no Radar with the NZ bde---)

We landed at Toyahara and we got badly disabled by the little preparation we had...but tomorrow we're gonna attack no matter what.

No Kami today...

Tomorrow, thanks to NY59, we're gonna hit Harbin with 180 4Es...

Moving 3000 AVs to Okkaido in these hours...

Those depot divisions are lousy troops. Low morale and poor equipment. Sort of like Chinese divisions. Home guard basically.

Wrong,

They sink so damn quick they have little chance to act as a torch

BUT,

Having about 100 CAP up over a convoy can be a deterrant or make it expensive to try.

The most remarkable part of Greyjoy's Northern Invasion is not its target or the misdirection campaign, not even Greyjoy's SigInt analyzis that enabled it, but his courage and determination in pursuing his objective. As far as I can see, not many players have enough mental fortitude to bet the entire game on a semi-blind deep invasion, based on information that will inevitably be dated by the time troops hit the beaches. Particularly when lured with the perspective of a near-inevitable eventual win through low-risk means. I know that I probably don't. Seeing as Greyjoy is a first-time player, I can only salute him and his progress.

I find the NF work OK, over okinawa my P61 usually claim 1 victory and 2-3 damaged out of a raid of 20+. Lots of raids turn around as well without loss. Given AI carried & ground RADAR this seems reasonable. I havent had many P61 shot down which is fair given the poor defensive armaments and lack of RADAR in the IJAAF bombers.

Try Beaufighters or anything with heavy armament really, you'll see that they are no less effective. Although the last might have fixed that.

Well it they won't stop the KB, but it will keep those long range Betty's at bay and will allow you to take more direct routes. Between those the LBA, you should have few problems except the KB

Princep Bolton rose ponderously from his lofty perch, sword in hand. Recently cleaned and polished, the sword glimmered in the light. Before him knelt a handsome, if somewhat battered, young man in grey and black with white highlites. On his tunic was the image of a great sea kraken lunging at a floundering ship of war. His helm rested under his arm and his fair haired head was bowed. The room, though filled to overflowing with all the members of the forum, was utterly silent.

Bolton lifted the gleamming sword and lightly touched it to the young man's right shoulder. He proclaimed, " I, PrincepBolton, dub ye, Greyjoy of the Iron Isles, a knight of Dreadfort. No more will you be called anything other than Ser Greyjoy of Dreadfort. You shall have all the rights of noble knighthood and enjoy the new lands I have bequeathed to you and your future heirs. Arise great warrior and rejoice with your peers and people".

The great room burst into tumultous cheers for the conqueror of the Kuriles. It was duly noted that princepBolton smiled and then steered his new knight to a great table occupied by the best ladies, heaped high with the bounty of empire and served by the most fetching of wenches.

And a good time was had by all.

fortunately, GJ gained invaluable amph-ops knowledge during the early defensive phase of this campaign - he suffered an incredible IJHQ expansion, learned how to survive (at Tulagi, stalemating the invaders), then learned how to emerge victorious (at Dutch Harbor, throwing them back into the sea).

he learned how to plan, execute & support successful offensive amph-ops in the Solomons, then scaled-up by a factor of 10 for the Hokkaido invasion. it's just nearly incredible to me how well this op has proceeded - nearly w/o flaw operationally, & perfect as strategy - 1st the assault units, then the supplies, baseforces & engrs, then the LBA sqns - ntm the fuel, fleet-auxiliaries and seaplane recon sqns.

also that GJ's phib shipping & CVTFs suffered no losses, & are free to retire, repair, reload, then launch an exploding arrow into a target of choice. w/ a secure strat-bomber base in Hokkaido, GJ is free to conduct attrition warfare along any path he might choose.

hi GJ,

now you're starting to feel your way into strat-bombing, & by HR this must be >20k?

so don't go for city/firestorm attacks (you'll need 3-400 bombers), attack airframe factories & HI specifically. but imo it's better to attack AFs (& ports when needed), close his airfields & destroy planes on the ground. don't spend your PPs transferring bomber groups to a specific HQ - but do spend PPs to buy the best commanders to captain the AirHQ units in range of your bomber bases. minimize your fighter escorts & sweeps - LRcap the enemy base instead. mind your fatigue levels carefully, keep your bomber sqns at 50% rest 'til you've built up overwhelming force. switch between targets & altitudes to keep enemy interceptors guessing.

as you begin your strat campaign, find a system that that does damage, but allows you to replace lost airframes, so that your air strength icresases over time.

Two intensive turns

April 13, 14 1944

We conquered Toyohara, after a huge ground bombing attack made by our 2Es based at bihoro.
The invasion force is immediately re-loaded, heading for Okkaido.

At Harbin our city bombing went very good...no opposition found...we lit up a lot of fires...hope this is enough to get out his industries...

We sent a lot of DMS to deal with the mines at Hakodate...we have been punished by his CD guns there...gotta admit that i don't have a clue to stop the seabridge...between mines and GD guns that strait seems unaffordable for me...

His nitght air naval attacks continue...so far my NF squadrons have managed to keep the buggers away from my major ships...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TF 19 encounters mine field at Hakodate (119,53) - Coastal Guns Fire Back!

329 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.

Allied Ships
DMS Elliot, Shell hits 11, heavy fires, heavy damage
DMS Emmons, Shell hits 12, heavy fires
DMS Ellyson, Shell hits 7, on fire
DMS Forrest, Shell hits 8, Mine hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
DMS Howard, Shell hits 5
DMS Palmer, Shell hits 4
DMS Perry, Shell hits 6
DMS Lamberton, Shell hits 2
DMS Southard

72 mines cleared

We then bombed Paramushiro...just to keep him honest there.....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We then decided it was time to try his defences north of Hakkodate...
We sent one of the major allied air bombing effort of the whole war against his 5th Area Army...preceeded by a owfull coordinated sweep of 200 Corsairs...(the biggest group was composed of 18 corsairs).
Then the attack...didn't go that well but we killed many japs and our causalities are for the most part disabled...in 4 days we'll be ready to start a bran new attack with some fresh troops!

During the night of the 15th two bombardment TFs reached unseen Hachinohe (south of Ominato) and plastered the air base there....not bad! the new ports in the south of Okkaido will become very usefull in the nearby future...

With your airpower & fresh troops, it won't take you too long to clear that roadblock - he's going to lose about a Division a day (in effectiveness).

With respect to closing the barge-bridge, PTs & low-altitude airstrikes are going to be key, along with mass attacks against the port facilities.

I believe Rader is overestimating the abilities of the troops he's moving into the theater & underestimating the capabilities of 1944 Allied troops (especially the armor). I don't think he has a prayer of stopping you from securing the entire island within the next few weeks.

I am with Paullus here. Constant air attacks not only kill troops but sap morale as well. Just keep grinding him down and the job will get done.

GJ are you using those massive US Corp engineering brigades? They are magnificent...
