Big (and decent) article/editorial on Yamamoto...

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/07/opinion/a-reluctant-enemy.html?pagewanted=1&hp

While we might take it for granted here...most Americans have never realized he was personally
against going to war (with the US)

He did live in the USA so he knew that it was suicide (but Japanese honor code dictated that he did fight with all vigor he had)...

The Times also has an interesting front-page story about the aging Pearl Harbor association. This year marks the last time they're going to organize get-togethers at the memorial. They're all getting to old to travel, etc. A poignant story.

Local news was comparing 9/11 to Pearl Harbor. I told them they were a bunch of fools to even consider comparing the two.

Yamamoto is a need person to study if you ask me.

I agree. Poignant. The only thing I can think of, that is similar, is reading accounts of the Last Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic.

Here's to 'em.

Good piece. Maybe the NYT readers will learn some history. Ian Toll's "Six Frigates" is an excellent book on the beginnings of the U.S. Navy.

Cheers,
CC
