Hi everyone, this is my first post in this forum. The reason I post this is that I need some help with Panzercorps.

I bought this game a week ago and I think its great. The thing is thou that im really bad at it. Im not new to strategy games per say, play alot of 4x games, but im relatively new to tactical wargames.

I just recently finished the Poland scenario in the main campain after trying many times. The tutorial was not that hard but this was diffrent.
My main problem is that run out of turns before finishing the scenario Are you suposed to rush toward your goal no matter what, or do you play it slow forward.
My second problem is whether or not to buy additional units. Could you give me some tips on how to spend my prestige in the beginning of a scenario?

I really want to learn how to play this kind of games and I thought this was a good gate-opener, but im having a hard time wraping my head around it.

I would say...

Play it slow while you learn the game.  You can actually lose some scenarios and the campaign will not end.  Take your time while you are learning.
In the default campaign, you will need a LOT of artillery and infantry.  Priority for units is artillery, infantry, fighters, tanks, and tactical/strategic bombers.  Recon, AD, and anti tank aren't very helpful in the stock campaign.
Always buy as many CORE units as you are allowed to bring into a scenario.  Though less true later on, in the beginning stages of the game, quantity counts a lot more than quality.

Here's some more tips and trick threads:

Good luck and have fun!

Im not a pro yet with this game. But have played Panzer general to death over the years and its the same priciples I think. I found that it helps in attacking to attack with two or more infantry supported by a tank and artillery. Hit em first with the arty to sppress them, then attack with the inf/armor combination. I ALWAYS buy lots of infantry as Kerensky suggest. I like to equip them with trucks or halftracks so they are more mobile. I also make sure I have at least two arty and more if I think nessassary. It also helps to make sure you establish air superiority as quickly as possible. Make sure you have plenty of fighters. Dont want his pesky bombers hitting your trucks on the road do you?

Thanks for all the help!

I managed to beat the Poland scenario with a decisive Victory on the second difficulty-setting yesterday. Norway looks like a much harder and bigger scenario, but thats part of the fun.

Hi Three4Flinching, good work on Poland, Norway is a bear if you try slogging up the roads to the north end of Norway, you most likely won't make it at the last three diffuclty settings. If you have any problems after one month post again and I will give you some guides for your consideration to capture Norway very early on with any setting.

I took the roads and I can see what you mean, very cramped with mountains on both sides. Was almost able to get the decisive victory, but I forgot that I should take the northenmost town last. Captured the town next to it and regrouped my forces, then I hit end turn and it was over in a normal victory.

One of the bigger problems, as I see it, going the sea rout is all the Brittish boats. The where outclassing my boats to the point of it beeing embarrassing...

It is not necessary to get any sort of victory in Norway to continue. Look at it as an experiance and prestiege gathering opportunity.
If you bought a Strat bomber it can almost be 2 stars by the end of the scenario just by wiping out the allied fleet. Build your artillery and fighter experiance by using them a lot, fighters can strafe and gain experiance after you wipe out the Allied fighter. You'll need the experiance in the Low Countries and France.

Norway falls easily, I found out the hard way you do not wipe out any of Norway's units in southern Norway until you capture one or both of the northern airfields. You do that with the three Paras and the three finest units you have to land on the first turn from the three invasions slots in the north. The three Para units go straight for those airfields on the first turn, the reason for that is you can bring your fighter bombers to those bases and finish the assult by turn five or six, the lone enemy plane cannot stop you if you escorte the Para's with fighter bombers. Once you take out all the northern cities usually by the sixth or seventh move the battle is all but over. Now the reason I said that you do not wipe out any southern forces right away is because they will be rebuilt in the north and you will have to destroy them all over again in a far more difficult area. I use my fleet in the southern waters to bombard and reduce Norway's ground forces in the south while I am destroying all the northern forces.

Hey JW I agree with you on the Low countries and France, but I always wonder is there any advantage of a decisive victory over a marginal one in any scenerio?

For Norway there may be in the newest patch, I haven't checked. Some scenarios give you the same prestiege for an MV and a DV and some give you more for a DV. I think some even give you the most for a lesser victory, the reasoning being you took a beating in the scenario and need to replenish your forces.
In Norway you get something like 50 prestiege per trun so playing it to then end and just getting an MV can net you a lot of presitege. Usually you can just surround the last victory hex needed for the MV and wait without losing anything for a lot of turns while having you air force keep attacking to build up experiance.

From what you are saying I will probably have a hard time in the Low countries scenario. Lost a couple of good units when I took Norway.
Then again it does not matter. Im mostly playing this campain to learn the game and figure out what works best and where.

I still have a hard time knowing what to buy thou. I mostly go for artillery and infantry, as said in an earlier post, but other then that it feels like you need to know how the scenario plays in order to know what you need. When I pick my units i look for a balance between stats and cost. Is that a good strategy?

You'll need a mix and for some types it may not be obvious why you need them, like strat bombers. When you do Sea Lion or Overlord or get to the USA you may wish you had a few with experiance

Obviously the exct make up depends on your style and personal preferance. For me I try to have a tank for each infantry, a few artillery (either style at the beginning but eventually a mix of towed and SP), more fighters than bombers and maybe an AT unit or two. I rarely buy flak as I trust my fighters to control the air but an 88 or two never hurt. Remember there are basically two 'families'oftanks early on the PZIII and Iv. Upgrading within the family is much cheaper. Eventually you will want Tigers and Panthers so you will have to pay more to buy thme outright but the PZIVH will last a good long time. I generally convert my PZIII's to Panthers and my PZIV's to Tigers or King Tigers depending on my prestiege. When I buy new tns I keep that in mind as it lets me know what my armour wil look like in 44-45.

Also remember that if you find yourself with extra prestige you can buy more units than you can actually deploy in a scenario as long as you do it before you deploy the maximum number. So you can buy special units just for a particular scenario and then either keep them around just in case or disband them in the next scenario deployment phase and get your prestiege back. I do that for paratroopers, as I don't use them as much as others, but you could do it to get a few extra artillery pieces, if you think you'll need them,, or buy an extra plane or two.

Is there a good reason to buy cavalry instead of ordinary infantry? In what way are they useful?

I´m starting to learn the game now and it is a blast. Just lost the France scenario, and thus ending the campaign, by taking to many turns, but only because I missed the town in the south-west. Don´t know why I did not see it but it was probably because I got a bit carried away with my now quite strong troops

Well, unlike war, you can always start again.

Cavalry is fast and hs good spotting. It can stand up to enemy cav and infantry in terrain. It has it's uses especially early in the war. Try one, you can always change it to a different infantry type later if you don't like it.
