do the ackdarians not have access to passenger ships?
they are the only race ive ever played that seems to not start with any and never builds any even though in one game i had 3 resort bases close to a few of my colonies.
i just went through the start new game with all races and the kiadians apparently don't start with the passenger ships either. i have not played very long with these two races. maybe 3-5 years at a time so do they build passenger ships later on or what? how do passenger ships work with the 2 races?
Well I know its not a racial thing.. I played an Ackdarian game briefly earlier today and I certainly had passenger ships. Sounds like some kind of resource availability wonkyness to me.
I figured it out, it isn't racial. i went to the ship designs for those 2 at the startup as compared to humans and noticed the ai designed passenger ships for humans was only 226 but the other 2 were 235 and my tech only allowed ships up to size 230 to be built at the time. i just have to research bigger construction.
that is so weird though. hey devs is that intentional that the ai's default passenger designs would be different at startup for those 2 races or is there something else im missing?
That's pretty strange. Ackdarians are supposed to be able to build bigger ships than everyone else as a racial bonus. Did you import designs from an older game? Sometimes that can do funky stuff when it integrates with the current game.

I have tons of passenger ships playing as the ackdarians.

I am playing the fins in my current game and just had to scab a bunch of queued passenger ship to hurry along military building. I've never had to muck around with civilian building plans before so it might be something new with the update. But they do build them.

If you are playing RotS then I can't comment, there don't seem to be any issues in Legends. Btw if you don't have Legends you are seriously missing out!
so i went back into that saved game with the acks and researched enhanced construction and within a day or 2 of gametime after it was completed the private sector was building 7 passenger ships. so the size was too big i guess for them to build them at the time.
also, related, even though the private sector techinically doesn't need my help do i have to provide them the resources to build their ships? that's what it looks like.
is there any way i can influence them to build more freighters or is that literally just up to the private sector? like if i make the constructors build a bunch of stations in a row will the private sector be motivated to build more freighters? cuz i have noticed in the game overall, at times they'll build a bunch of freighters then they won't build any for years at a time then they will again. sometimes they'll build freighters more consistently than that. for the life of me it seems pretty random.
outside of researching tech and providing the resources for the private sector to build, is there any other factors that influence their motivation to build them?
You provide the resources and the construction yards to build the private sector ships, but they pay you pretty well for it.
The private sector can be encouraged to build more freighters by having lots of stuff to transport. Beyond that they need to have enough money stockpiled and sufficient cashflow to build them. Can't quantify these matters for you though. Remember different races have different characteristics, for example, cautiousness.
Edit: there is also the obvious - more colonies = more private sector ships. This is usually why you get private sector mass build jobs.

Too large designs for the starting tech. This used to be an issue with many of the races but it was fixed, but maybe these two races didn't get the fix. I've not seen the problem in Legends though.
There is a RotS patch coming soon I believe (or have I just imagined that?) so maybe it will be fixed in that. You can put it in the tech forum for Eliott to see, make sure you quote RotS and version number along with the problem in the title so he knows exactly where the problem exists.

Ok, now i just did a another start new game and it gave me humans. it's making me research marshy swap colonization and till then it's not letting me colonize a sweet marshy swamp planet i just found. is that right?
also, i built 2 resort bases in my home systems on resort locations but the passenger ship just sits in deep space doing nothing and there's never any tourists at the resorts. is that right?
are these bugs or what?
i do have the game saved but will need to be told how to upload it on here if needed.
definately still the case for the ackdarians, even in 1.7.0.6 with legends + the rest installed, their starting passenger ship is 235 and can't be built until either a) you change it yourself or b) you research more tech.
Not an issue if your involved in everything but if you have research to 999K and everything on auto this might affect you early game.
You're right. although 2 years in game time later that idle passenger ship out in the middle of nowhere finally got his arse in gear and started ferrying tourists from the home and only planet at the time to the 2 resort bases that were in the same system as that planet. lol. lazy bastard
another question. when i go to the colonies screen and select one then go to "construction yards" at the bottom. what does that represent? is it just another way of ordering the colony to build something, a al a colony ship or what? or from there can i build research stations on the colony itself? what does that screen do exactly?
Fortunately not a game-breaker, unless you rely on tourism as your income at first.. which you shouldn't, since Ackdarians build Colony Ships and Mining Ships at blazing speeds.
i just said it wasn't a bug right when you just posted. i did have another question in that post. take a look please.
Ah.. gotcha. What you were looking at was the colony's construction queue itself. So, you would build Resupply Ships, Colony Ships, or Construction Ships from there.

so, that's essentially another method of building stuff from the colony itself?

Exactly. One that I didn't even know about until you mentioned it. Neat find!
one more thing im noticing and i just want to make sure if it's WAD or not.
i started a game as the dayhut who like desert planets and their homeworld is desert but it's still making me research desert colonization for new colonies. is this the way it's supposed to be? you can't colonize any new type of planet until it's researched, even if it is your homeworld type?

No, no. You research your native planet type so that other races can eventually live on your planets, and thus reap the benefits of a multiracial society (which are many).

Yes. You may know how to live on your own world, but you have to research being able to teach Aliens how to live there.
To clarify what GC said, your Dayhuts can still colonize any & all desert planets. Researching Desert World Colonization merely allows other races living in your empire to live on desert planets as well.

Just to note that this was caused by the default Ackdarian passenger ship design being too big for the starting construction size, i.e. too big to build.
This is fixed in 1.7.0.7, so that the AI designs passenger ships within construction limits.
