Certainly looks like a worthwhile watch once English subtitles come out for it...

looks nice. I was impressed with the CGI. The last Japanese movie i previewed featured Togo and Tsunshima. I was disapointed by the CGI effects for the warships. They looked more like toy boats, esp when hit. These clips look much more realistic.

I sure hope it can be purchased in the US.

There was a couple of other movies that looked pretty good. One was about the Yamato's last sortie. Another about a Tokko unit on Kyushu. Both names escape me.

I think you mean (english version) "Men of the Yamato" and "For those we love".

Excellent movies indeed.

Nik,

International versions (The titles have been modified but they are the same movies) of both films with good english subtitles have been made in 2011. I got them both from Amazon UK

See them here for Yamato:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pacific-Battleship-Yamato-Junya-Sato/dp/B003X42Q3Y/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1323811677&sr=1-1

and here for "For those we love": http://www.amazon.co.uk/Assault-Pacific-Kamikaze-Keiko-Kishi/dp/B004LYWFW2/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1323811851&sr=1-1

The copies are good but they are coded in zone 2 and you will need a multi-zone DVD player to watch them.

You all may appreciate a story that comes from a "friend of a friend" -- both of whom were in the Foreign Service in Japan in the 1950s and 1960s.

Apparently, one of Adm. Yamamoto's daughters worked at the US Embassy as the staff librarian. As the story was told to me, in the early 1960s, she approached one of the embassy staff and said, basically, that some years before a Senator McCarthy had listed an assortment of books that ought to be banned. She was instructed by the Embassy to cull the books from the library and destroy them. But instead of destroying them, she took them home for safe keeping, on the assumption that "America won't stay THAT way very long." But as Sen. McCarthy had died, wouldn't the Embassy like those books back in the library? She returned them the following day.

Hi all,

Thanks for sharing!

BTW, like others noticed as well, it is very nice to see that Japanese started making movies about WWII!

Lately I watched (and liked):

"Ore wa, kimi no tame ni koso shini ni iku" ("For Those We Love")

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0882797/

"Otoko Tachi No Yamato" ("Yamato")

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0451845/

Dare we hope for a movie that takes history seriously? It looks promising. The combat scenes looked impressive.

Let's hope but I wouldn't hold my breath. My Japanese is a little rusty, but I'm sure in the trailer, when Nagumo addresses his officers post the PH attack, he says "I think World War II has just started mwahahaha"

These Japanese films are much better than average Hollywood films.

Of cource there's some inaccuracies, for example Yamato's last sortie doesn't seem to have any escorts... But inaccuracies are rather minor IMO.

All good and fine but too bad these movies don't make it to Europe and don't even get an English synchronization.
"Letters from Iwo Jima" & "Flags of Our Fathers" and also "The Pacific" were really good and a change that was desperately needed from the WW2 movies & series showing the European theater.

But I bet I'm not the only one who thinks that this sentimental melodic music simply sucks, any track would have been better here watch the trailer and listen to this:

'Otoko Tachi No Yamato' made it to Europe, and was an interesting watch.

Hadn't heard about 'Ore wa, kimi no tame ni koso shini ni iku' before, will have to do a little searching.

This new one definately looks good; thanks for the trailer.

You are welcome. Both above movies made it to Europe. See my post #10

Should have been more precise, talking about Europe was more regarded to a German Synchro, well English subtitles are better than nothing.
