A noble effort fighting on. Good to see how fighting shapes up in this part of the map, and to see Jerry fighting on.

Not much relevance to our game as I can't see the fighting ever getting so far West

Yeah most times in wargames the player will fail a personal morale check and call it done. In this game, we called a winner in '42 but both of us wanted to play it out. Along the way I think we have gotten some good info and fun out of it.

Besides the only reason the fighting won't reach that far west in our game is that your army will be dead by then and my army will just be rolling through East Prussia and poland unopposed ......

Jan 13 1944.....

German lines continue to crack. A major breakthrough towards Krakow is crushed! 3 soviet tank corps are pocketed. I had to go all in to make successful attacks and get the width and strength of the pocket to hold. Hopefully the russians wont be able to move ALL of my guys and I will kill off some nasty russian tank units.
However, this last gasp operation is not without cost. The SS panzers that were holding the line on the warsaw front have had to shift south, and armored forces from 16th and 9 armies have been withdrawn and deployed to take up the lines around warsaw.
Even troops from Hungary have had to be withdrawn to allow 3rd panzer army the bare minimum force concentration.
The juggling act becomes ever harder, and the coming withdrawals of panzers to France to deal with the invasion are only going to make things more difficult......

Turn 136: Jan 20, 1944

The Russians run wild in Northern Poland and in Hungary. My decision to go after those tank corps for a surrender result has cost me a lot of territory over the rest of the map.
Here is a look at the front minus the Ostwall that is under construction on the West side of the Oder river. My revised date for russian boots in my Fuehrer Bunker is no later than August '44.

Turn 142 March 3rd, 1944.

German army is completely toast, Russians are streaming through Hungary and are over the Vistula in the north now as well.
At some point I am trying to get some russkies over extended, but they seem to be very methodical in beating me down.
I need some more of those X=X stacks of SS panzers .....

Interesting AAR

One thing I noticed that may help slightly: You still have those RHG HQs in play. I would disband those for replacements. In fact, you may consider disbanding some of the Security Units too for replacements.

If you have any FBD units left, you may as well disband those.

You can also consolidate all your airpower, and start disbanding airbases. The Army airbases are a good candidate. You probably don't need tons of recon anymore to tell you the Russians are coming. In force.

Start disbanding any unit you don't absolutely need in order to get more Rifles in line. At this point, I would even look at Corps HQs if you have excess; not sure if you do or not.

All of this will probably put 100K rifles in line max, so not a game changer, but every bit helps

You seem to have plenty of 0-0 units though

Good advice from Qball, though. Scrap anything and everything that does not add combat power.

For Qball and SF

Lots of dudes, no rifles for them. Will disbanding stuff generate me some ARM pts?

yeah we started this game with 1.04.18ish so there have been a few changes over time. I'll take a look when I get the turn back.

**** edit **** here is a screenie of the 47mm production. I cant remember who found the bug but as you can see from the condition of my units it was a great catch !!

Turn 143: March9th, 1944

Russians finaly breakthrough to the north at Danzig, torching all of my nice factories there. I have been hoping for a russian breakout in this area for the last turn or so, The SS were moved up a couple of weeks ago in hopes that we would have just this sort of opportunity.

Over the rest of the front the Hungarians surrender and the red horde is pouring through..... Maybe if I can cause enough chaos in the north some of the red army will get diverted up there.

Hmm. We keep being told that in late game G shortage is men not guns. Why should 47mm gun production bug affect 1944 as produced only in '41 IIRC?

B - have you got the TOEs of your artillery SUs down to, say, 50%? If not, doing it should solve your arms problem as you will then stop building expensive arty and start on rifles instead.

I dont think we can really use the numbers in this game, there have been so many changes since it was started.

The combined might of the remaining mechanized forces in the east, spearheaded by the 4th Panzer army's 3rd and 46th panzer corps, are brought to a halt after furious fighting just 10 miles short of their objectives on the baltic coast.

Needless to say the situation is grim for the exposed attackers and the rest of the front which has been stripped to provide forces for the failed attack.

Yeah, when the Armament pool is empty, disbanding HQ and Airbase units does nothing. Well, it adds Support squads, but that doesn't burn many Armaments anyway.

The bug bit you; hope you enjoyed your gold-plated 47mm!

PS: That was gingerbread who sniffed that one out, IIRC

Turn 144

German lines are crumbling, the boneyard continues to grow.
Hoping for mud, to make the Soviets go slow...

I have started merging units to try to build up some useful formations.
Screenie shows a shot of the front after a few moves.
4th panzer army is going to take one more shot at cutting of the finger of doom.
3rd panzer army is going to support a little and try to contain some of the disasters to the south.

@cavalry -- yes i was very incompetent in the the first part of the war, I had some very poor performance in '41.

Last gasp in the east ...

4th panzer army is rejected once again at the very end in spite of trading the INF from 56pz for all of the scattered tanks that had been supporting 16th and 9 armies.....

Turn 150:

Doom and gloom across the entire front .....

Actually got 2 more Panzer divs surrounded and killed along with a host of infantry geeks.
Holding back the tide in the mud, hopefully long enough for the ice to melt on the Oder-Niesse line.

Starting a Pool on when the Soviets Occupy the Reichstag!!

I screwed up a lot, plus we found a lot of bugs along the way.
Getting pounded on all the way through '42 with the old school 1:1 rule was not pleasant either 8)

Turn 151

Minor defensive success, Clear weather in the Europe zone catches some russians unaware.

3rd panzercorps takes care of business.

The rest of the front is a disaster, maybe have a shot of it nexty turn

Turn 153

The entire front is a mess, Army Group Oosterreich is surrounded in Austria with little chance of getting free.

The rest the remaining Wehrmacht begins taking up their last ditch defenses behind the Oder.

I finally get some level4 forts built up so that will help a little bit. They took 3 months or so to get that high.

Shouldn't be too long now, the Mud will slow down the russians a little, but not much.

**** edit **** put 1943 for year instead of 1944. Must have been thinking of what I am going to be doing to sillyflower =p
