Thanks Larry!

So um...thanks? Have you seen what you were looking for. There's been no Axis attacks since early October. I'm thinking I might be
able to turn this game around. I'm going to keep playing and post important stuff only so that the AAR section doesn't get filled up with
my useless observations. Actually I thought about quitting this monster about a dozen times so far. I keep going just to see if I can win.
I'm thinking that if I get this game turned around pretty soon I might have enough time to be in Berlin by May '45. It's possible I believe.

Thanks for playing Larry - of course - many thanks indeed - and keep on playing!

What we saw from this is that at 110% German AI can do harm against experienced Soviet player (and you are experienced gameplayer) but not as much (especially in the south) as we saw in our internal AI vs. AI tests.

Getting this quickly so far in gameplay terms in vs. AI is really helpful and we appreciate it!

So... please do continue to play as long as you have fun doing it!

Hi all,

Larry, what do you think about overall "feel" regarding AI when Axis is at 110% vs. Soviets at 100%?

Last game you played was 100% vs. 100% and it wasn't such a challenge...

Um.........it 'feels' like the AI is cheating or something.  All the losses are 'slanted' toward the Axis advantage and seem to be wildly excessive at times.  Can't fault the
AI on the way he moves his units or anything strange so far but I've noticed that he uses 3-stacks ( three units in one hex ) to attack my positions sometimes from
three different hexes in one attack.  The Luftwaffe seems invincible.  I've attacked Axis air bases and lost 1/3 to 1/2 of my fighters with no losses to the Axis.  Whoa.
Elmer doesn't seem to want to attack my air bases at all.  And I've purchased lots of AA just to prepare for his air base attacks and it's appearently not needed.  I haven't noticed any amphibious attacks by the AI either.  I guess he doesn't do amphibious attacks.  My counterattacks seem to go nowhere at times.  Lots of losses for little gains.  But that's to be expected by a game slanted toward the Axis advantage I guess.  I've seen lots of attack possibilities by the AI that he doesn't take.  He especially likes to attack the weaker spots in my line, I like that.  That's what I would do too.  No pockets except for turn one.  Maybe that's because I've been pulling back so quickly.  I 'feel' like I'm playing a human sometimes.

This is what Leningrad has looked like for the past 50 turns or so. I don't know why he doesn't just go ahead and push his way into the city and take it. He's undoubtly able.

I'm currently in the same boat, Leningrad wise, and I get the feeling that the AI wants the city cut-off before it attacks.

What degree of "hardness" are you using....110%? How's your game going? Pictures, I want to see pictures of your game. How far
along are you? If I was playing the Axis side I believe I would just take the city ASAP. Reguardless of whether or not it's cut off. He's got the strength to do it. Good thing I'm playing the AI and not a human......it would be gone many many turns ago.

The AI should not be cheating - if it is - it is a bug (and we, hopefully, eradicated all those)!

The only thing at 110% AI gets, AFAIK, is help with dice rolls (and, therefore, all various leader rolls)...

I see you still have some rifle brigades and tank brigades still not merged up.....guessing there is an AP shortage.

The tank corps are probably not ready to fight on their own; you may want to pull them back and keep training them up, or at least only use them in reserve mode.  They could also use some attachment help since the early TOE is bad.

Um......we're trading single hexes here and there. I attack when I can find favorable odds for it. The Axis CV is STILL ( Feb. '43 ) too high to push anywhere. I'm thinking I'M going to be pushed back when spring '43 arrives. It's a good game so far but I would have thought that the Soviets would have gained the TOE's and manpower to start some serious offensives and so far that's not the case. I haven't been able to hurt the Axis in any measureable way, on the ground or in the air, and the CV's of the Axis units are still astronomical so far. There are selected areas of the front where the Axis allies are on the front lines where I might make some progress but all he has to do is move a German unit in there and my offensive stops. Typical Axis CV's are 29=46 ( offensive=defensive) and my CV's are like 14=25 or so. I have to gang up on my targets when I attack........using three 3-stacks I can usually push back the smaller Axis units but those big mothers are a bear to try to push back. I'm loosing thousands of troops when he usually looses only hundreds. Attrition has yet to kick in seriously. I'm thinking that 110% for the Axis side might be a little bit too high for my tastes. I'm creaping up on turn 100 and I was expecting a more docile Axis side when as it is, the Axis side is still a dangerous opponent. I'm thinking I may be running out of time in this game. I'm not at all sure I can capture Berlin by May '45. We'll see.

EDIT: I thought I'd post a picture of the Leningrad area to illustrate the difference in CV's.

A lot of my VVS air bases are empty becasue I'm running low on transports. I hesitate to base level bombers there because I think I need them for bombing Axis units. And besides, there are no bombers handy to base there, they are all busy on other bases.

It seems like you have a pretty healthy armaments pool.  Have you given thought to creating on map artillery to give your attacks more 'oomph'?

I built one 152mm arty unit and one Heavy Rocket unit and they are filling out slowly. Maybe some more is in order here. Thanks for the good idea.

I'm trying to buy some SU's for the Rifle Corps and sometimes threre is something on the list to pick from and sometimes the pick list is
empty. What does the Soviet player do to allow some SU's to be available on the pick list? Get STAVKA to purchase them first?
