I don't often post but I just would like to say that, in my opinion, the Legends expansion has made Distant Worlds a truly classic game. The multiple racial victory conditions and random leaders with multiple traits are amazing. Leaders have really 'humanized' the game. The idea that a leader can provide both positives AND negatives and that those traits appear and grow as time passes, is profound. Multiple racial victory conditions have finally truly made the races unique with personalities.

I've enjoyed watching the game progress. I'm sure we all have personal wishlists we'd like to see added. (Mine #1 would be fuel tankers) But as it stands today, I think Distant Worlds has gone beyond chasing Master of Orion and has created a new genre altogether...the genre of empire simulation.

I can't wait to see whats next!

I agree, in my opinion Distant Worlds: Legends has evolved the 4x genre a step further. Remember Master of Orion 3's claim to have the "fifth X"? MoO3 was a legendary failure, but DW has achieved legendary new heights for the genre!

That's quite well said. Distant Worlds is different enought from MoO2 and other 4Xs to create its own sub-genre, that it currently rules pretty much alone.

Think you are 100% spot on with your saying leaders have "humanized" the game. The level of immersion now that the various leader types have been introduced is remarkable. I have been impressed with the game from the beginning, but the latest expansion has really added polish to the gem.

In 2400 when the United Terran Federation beghins it's expansion and colonization of the alpha quadrant. They will use this game to as a simulation to teach recruits how it's done.
