Hi all

Am playing Scen 1 as the Allies against the AI. Just reached February 1943. Have been using the latest Beta patches from the start of my game.

I have run across three things that seem to be bugs, but may be WAD's:

1. On January 1st 1943 all my carrier VS Squadrons were forced to disband. The OP report said that they were disbanded and they were just gone - planes were returned to the pool. I thought that they were suppose to hang around until March 1st 1943 when the VB squadrons resize? As it is right now, there a 2 month gap of time where the carriers only have 18 SBD's (the VB squadron before it resizes). Is this a bug or WAD?

2. My Allied plane production is not upgrading. Let me make sure I get this correct: a planes "Replace Rate" is *only* for that single airframe - ie. once its dates are done, that production rate is gone. Its "Production Rate" has the ability to upgrade to the next airframe, thereby increasing the next airframes production rate. For example, per the screenshot below, take the B-24. You start with a production rate of 15 for the B-24D up through Jan 1943. Then, you get 33 replace *plus* the 15 production that is upgrading: giving you a total of 48 for the B-24D1. Finally, with the B-24J, you get 38 production, 12 replace *plus* 15 replace from the B-24D/B-24D1 string. Is this correct?

Because if that is how it should be working, it is not. Its Feb 3rd 1943 and my B-24's, B-25's and Wirraways did not upgrade. This is obviously a huge problem as many airframes only production is a "Production" upgrading path. Is this a bug or WAD?

3. Can someone help me understand the Pilot Replacement system. My understanding is that it takes a year to normally train a pilot. Once their year is done, the pilots will average the pilot experience for the year which is set in the editor. If you draw all your fully trained pilots from the "In Pool" pool (this is the number of 100% trained pilots right?), then you start taking pilots from their classes early - at a lower experience. Is this correct? Is there an indepth thread that covers this all in detail?

My question is this: with a *huge* pool of trained pilots, the experience goes down on the 1st of each month. I noticed this throughout 1942. But then on Jan 1st 1943, all the sudden pilot experience jumps up. Then on Feb 1st, it goes down again. Whats causing it to go down each month when theres tons of pilots in there?

As a specific, the trained pool experience for US Army pilots in Dec 42 was 21, then it jumped on Jan 1st to 28, then on Feb 1st it dropped a point to 27. Is this WAD and I am just missing something?

Sorry if these are all WAD and have been discussed extensively in previous posts.

Thanks for your help.

Chad

Just went back and double checked the production centers, and they are all set to upgrade - I have never changed - or even looked at - these settings.

Often discussed.

You would do better if you did not raise this in the tech sub forum. Post instead in the general forum which is read by many more people.

Have a look at this recent thread.

The poster is discussing three seperate behaviors for which teh VS->VB conversion is one .. I am partiularly concerned with the upgrading of the airgroups .. possibly the problem is not meeting the level 7 airbase /HQ criteria?

I believe that is correct.
However, you can upload a zipped save file here and I will check it out.

AC factories upgrade is based on how long the new plane has been available.
The factory does not normally upgrade in the actual month the plane becomes available, but starts from the following month due to the way the randomness is calculated.

I suspect that this is time taken to change over to the new aircraft rather than disabling the devices as you might have expected.
This delay is could be better than disabling have your factory and then repairing them as with R&D.

This code is the same as WITP as far as the factory upgrading is concerned.

One thing to note. The larger the factory, the longer it can take before it upgrades to the next a/c.

The reason the overall experience changes on the first of the month is that the average exp level is affected by the influx of the new pilots finishing training. Most of the time the new arrivals tend to have a lesser value than the pilots already in the pool.
Eg
in replacement pool there are 500 pilots, exp level is 28. At the end of the month, 100 new pilots are added with exp level of 26.
the new replacement pool is now 600 pilots, exp level (500x28 + 100x26)/(500+100) = 27

I wasn't aware of this as I always thought it was kinda a random event from a couple of days to a couple of weeks based on size instead of over a month for the larger ones as it happens now. If that's the way it is, I guess I'll stop b**ching about why my larger ones haven't upgraded after a month has gone by
