When I arrived on what was termed permanent party we had Sheridans for tanks, M16A1 for rifles (and no feakin fancy ACOGs) Gamma Goats and M2s from 1942. We ate C-Rats in the field (never saw a K-rat) and when we were on border with our Sheridans and Leopard I s pulled up, It looked like we had toys. The drinking age was eighteen and Jimmy Carter was devaluating my money on a monthly basis. Cheers if your at least fifty!

Anybody know what the difference in content was between C-Rat and K-Rat packs?

I know the K-Rats had smokes. I would like to know if the Ks could be used like the Cs ie. take out the gum and spoon etc., light the box up, (saw different styles of this) and get a warm meal in 10min.

I think K-rats were gone before 1950, so someone around on these boards would probably be a bit long in tooth to have had them in the field. My dad served during Korea, so I'll have to ask him if he had any -)

We had what we called C-rations in the early 80s before the MRE, but I don't think they were really C-rations. Well, at least not exactly the same as the ones from WWII. Although it seemed like that was when they were packaged...

Eh? What's this? "See Rats"? Yes, I've seen rats, what's the big deal? "K Rats"? Yes, I'm 'K with rats-they mind their own bidness, I'll mind my own bidness.

And what's all this I hear about the violins on TV?

I think it has to do with what kind of rats provided the meat for the K's and C's

According to my father, one had spam. He would trade for that one. He loved fried spam

After the Falklands campaign, supply was pretty "stretched" for UK forces. We were on excercise in Wales and regularly had ration packs dating back to 1960's (this was July/August 1982!!) The chocolate was white, but the tinned and dried foods were still fit for purpose. A tin of "Bacon Grill" was produced with a 1958 packing date - Bacon Grill was the Army's cheaper substitute for spam - so you had to be really hungry to want to eat it in the first place! Spam was a luxury to us!! Best meal was the vesta chicken curry.. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Saw this store last week when I was on a short trip to the UK. For some reason, I thought of this thread when I saw the sign.

Sorry for the bad quality. It was a little bit soggy then.

Is there a minimum age to post in this forum or something?  The kids at the local high school think I'm old.  The female residents at the retirement home across the street think I'm hot.
