I am sure this has probably been asked before, but with the Beta and the reality to actually select all ships to build or not allows for more flexibility to decide what to build and when to build it like plane production.

What is the chance to change Japanese ship construction so that you can build ships that were laid down and scrapped ie hull #111 (4th Yamato class)etc, that were planned and numbered but cancelled or you can choose not to convert(Shinano)?

Alot of Japanese construction changed with Midway, what would have happened if Midway never occurred?

A personal pain is if I lose a few Heavy Cruisers you have no more available however the Japanese did plan to make more such as the Ibuki.

With the game being extended to 1946 an ability to increase ship production especially for players like myself who like to do what ifs would be a huge bonus!!!

Here is a link to a post on this site about Japanese planned ships:

Here is a link to a site around the same information:

A number of Mods address this issue with differing possibilities. Take a look at Reluctant Admiral for one. There are several other 'what if' Naval Construction Mods.

scn 2 offers some more possibilities.

In all the gamesI have played Japan gets real short of DD , in scn 2 you get the Shimakaze and Akitzuki classes plus the other CL. The Shinano is built as a Taiho class CV.

This is good but it would be even better if in scn 2 ( only ) you could build all the extra stuff. Sadly not.

Wish there was real flexibility in ship production like in the old Pacific War board game. You could save up your points and spend them however you wanted: DDs, CAs, CLs, CVLs, etc...

Me too.

I agree with the original post - just for scn2. There should be more choice an options to steer building depending on losses.

In the old WITP days I had two campaigns where i basically ran out of Jap DD by 44 but had all my CV and BB. In AE however DD are harder to hit so its not quite as bad. In scn 2 there are planty of options to build or stall DD and to an extent CL. CA and above is still bad news.

Although Yamato and other large ships maybe were too far along to realisticly change at the start of the war, it would be nice to be able to chose what gets built from that point on and change to whatever we want there and in the smaller yards like we can with aircraft. I suppose they would have to be existing designs but I could live with that.
