Hi All,

I'm new to panzer core and have never played any of the previous games. I have found the tutorials helpful but am struggling to understand unit special abilities and what the units are supposed to be used for. The game seems to give you a detailed description of "unit classes" infantry, tanks etc but not of individual unit types within that class.

I feel that I'm left guessing what a unit should be used for based on its description. For example, pioniere units I am assuming are a bit like mountain infantry or are they more like marines? I guess my question is there a way to get a decription of each individual unit rather than just the unit type or does the game not give you this info?

While I'm at it I also have a question about artillery. I often find that they supress quite a lot of enemy but when I attack the supressed unit I don't do much damage and by attacking them I somehow "unsupress them" if I don't attack a suppressed unit will it stay supressed on its own turn and so be unable to attack me effectively?

Lastly does anyone else find that the non-motorised (semi fixed) anti-aircraft guns seem very overpowered vs tanks and infantry? I've taken heavy losses attack anti aircraft gones with tanks and infantry which is weird since I thought AA guns would be easy to attack if you could reach them. Am I missing something?

Quick an incomplete answers....Pioneers are basically Engineers, one of them also have boats to help you cross rivers.

AA guns, the 88's used by Germans were dual purpose, Air-to-air and Anti-tank selectable in the game.

By the by have you perused the MANUAL ?

Pioneers are good against entrenched units and forts, bridge engineers are to be placed on a river and will act as a bridge. Mountain units move quickly through mountains, HW infantry are good against tanks.
Tanks are good against anything that is not entrenched, but keep them away from citied and forests.
Arty and level bombers will supress units. The supressed strength will not fire back against the first attack made against them, but will be "good to go" as soon as your turn ends.

What you should look at are;
soft attack
hard attack
initiative
defensive values

A unit with high initiative is likely to shoot before the enemy shoots, soft attacks are made against infantry, artillery etc, hard attack against tanks and TDs. The defensive values are just what they seem, an indicator on how likely they are to take damage.

If you look at the PzIV, you will see that it actually works best against soft targets, while the PzIII series tend to be better against hard targets etc.

Hope this helps to some degree, if not just ask more specific questions and I will try to answer

Terje
