Classic.

The Lorraine Campaign is a bit of a forgotten one.

It involved the entire US Third Army and lasted for three-and-a-half months. The Americans suffered 55,182 combat casualties and 75,000 Germans prisoners were taken.

Yet very little has been written on it, it's almost completely absent from popular culture.

That depends. Do you have an offensive body odor or are you hiding from Seal Team 6? If the answer to either of those questions is "yes", then, I am afraid, we will have to decline.

If you are hiding from:

1) An angry ex-gf

2) A bill collector

3) The IRS

4) Your HOA

..then please enter. You are among freinds.

<looks furtively from side to side>

The Frau Braun reference reminds me of a Schwarzenegger joke:

Ahnold is sitting at a bar having a lager.

Bartender: Governor. I was sorry to hear about the marriage thing.

Ahnold: Ach, it is for ze better. Maria, always wis ze ve-ge-ta-bles..... and ze Kennedys. Teddy zis, Teddy zat. I vas tired of it. I told here ve live in Cu-lee-for-neeyah. Forget Teddy.

Bartender: Yes, but what about how it happened? Wasn't that tough?

You guys must be overstacked big time there, no? It's only a level 2AF, right, how many engines you have that call(ed) Exmouth home?

Can't explain the casualties though. Open terrain, no forts, I presume?

No..busy but not overstacked. Those are all single engine aircraft except for the Cats. The P-39 squadrons were understrength. This attack could not hav helped. The annoying thing is the Allied 4 BB surface group should have arrived there at night. Bloody annoying. Not sure what happened to them.

Good die roll for them I suspect but the land combat at PH was spectacular for us.

Here are the two air to ground attacks that went in at PH today:

Morning Air attack on 6th Guards Division, at 57,129 (Port Hedland)

Weather in hex: Overcast

Raid detected at 36 NM, estimated altitude 12,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 12 minutes

Japanese aircraft
Ki-44-IIa Tojo x 42

Allied aircraft
Mitchell II x 2
Bolingbroke IV x 6
B-17E Fortress x 23
B-17F Fortress x 16
LB-30 Liberator x 7
B-26B Marauder x 11

No Japanese losses

Allied aircraft losses
Bolingbroke IV: 1 destroyed, 1 damaged
B-17E Fortress: 8 damaged
B-17F Fortress: 1 destroyed, 13 damaged
LB-30 Liberator: 4 damaged
B-26B Marauder: 4 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
289 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 15 disabled
Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 20 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

And then the B-24's from Geraldton:

Morning Air attack on 65th Brigade, at 57,129 (Port Hedland)

Weather in hex: Overcast

Raid detected at 40 NM, estimated altitude 12,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 13 minutes

Japanese aircraft
Ki-44-IIa Tojo x 19

Allied aircraft
B-24D Liberator x 59

No Japanese losses

Allied aircraft losses
B-24D Liberator: 5 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
412 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 25 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 54 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled

The planned fighter sweeps from Exmouth did not happen because of the carnage from the night bombardment.

600+ disablements ain't gonna help JJ's combat readiness. By the skin of your teeth, I venture you may be out of immediate danger (again). Keeping your readers riveted in between the fart jokes makes this my one stop shopping for terror, mayhem and ribald humor.

Now, about opening up a retreat path. I know, keep calm and carry on, what what, but I am a loyal voting member of the Sensible Party.

No, St. Andrew's in Indianapolis, but I may have suffered brain damage when I was slapped real hard like by Sister "Pruneface" Concertina. You have to understand that we got rid of all the Frenchies in Indiana a long time ago in the battle of something or other. Our side was led by a future American President. I think it was Robert Louis Stevenson but I am not sure. At least he had three names.

I think.

In all honestly, even with the greatest objectivity that I can muster, I don't recall Sister Concertina looking ANYTHING like that. Even more, I doubt her breastesses were that perky <makes Dominican baseball player sign>. I imagine her looking more like my grandma Hazel who I accidentally saw unrobed from the waist up once <makes Dominican baseball player sign...twice>.

Hmmmmm this makes me think maybe the IJ are reading this AAR and are now copying the famed Cap Mandrake craps uber-die command technique .. or more likely they are investing in die roll R&D -- advancing the IJ die roll advantage as much as 14 months ...

Here are the air losses for the turn:

We lost 2 B-17E/F, 2 Bolingbroke (yawn) and 2 P-38 over PH and 6 F4F's and 4 Hurricane on the ground at Exmouth. I think the Exmouth bombardment combat report was a bit hyperbolic. The Tojos at Port Hedrand are reproducing by binary fision. We kill 6 and now there are 46 instead of 25.

Remember 102nd Eng Rgt which was more poperly a Bn.? You know, the unit that was hogging all the field kitchens and 105 mm rounds?

Well, they are now the 102nd Engr Platoon with a strength of 46 men and 3 trucks. Even so they are ready to fight. They are tougher than Reynolds' Iron Brigade. Br. 2nd has come down just a bit in disrutption and King's African Rifles are in good shape. 32nd ID now has 15 infantrymen (men, not squads) ready for battle. They have become a hospital unit and artillery attachment.

My Dearest Spri;

Many thanks for the limes. Splendid soupcon you chaps had over there! Concerning the situation at Port Hedland, Mr. Roosevelt was wondering if we might somehow open an emergency escape route should are troops there chose to, well, redeploy? I am sending over another B-17 squadron from Fiji to keep the Little Yellow Bastards penned in.

With Unfeigned Tepidness;

Fleet Admiral Mandrake
