Italian tac bombers and some Germans have EXP=100 just for have bombed the British Fleet 5-10 times, each time gaining 20 experience points and hitting 20 british ships.

Another strange thing, is that the Kriegsmarine and the Regia Maraina are winning almost every battle against the Royal Navy, even if the British has a 1 level tech advantage (3 versus 2)

However, even if the Germans has air at tech 3 with supply 29-30 at full strenght and exp between 20 and 100, are getting beaten like a drum by Level 2 English and Soviet air force: 5-7 strenght point, zero experience, at 2 tech level are better than Kesserling, 30 supply level, 30 experience points and 10 strenght point...

Am I doing something wrong?

The amount of damage a bomber does to a ship is not related to the size of attacking aircraft or tech level as far as I can tell. What seems to occur is that the plane gets a random chance to inflict 0-2 points of damage to every ship in the fleet it is hitting. So a large fleet will take more damage then a small fleet. And a 3 point Tactical will do the same damage as a 10 point.

I use my fighters for scouting and interception only. If the enemy tries to use his air in the interception range of your fighter, he may lose a point off his bomber, and you might lose a point off your fighter. But the mission still carries through. You cant stop bombing from occuring. You could use your fighters actively, by scouting for the enemy airforce, then hitting it with your fighters, but I find you need a fair number of them to destroy him, and will cost you in PP's to repair your airforce. My bombers I use in force, as 10 airstrikes against a hex (even Moscow, or Leningrad) will reduce the efficiency so low as to make it trivial to take.....but it costs PP's to repair the air.

You dont really want the German airforce to get into a war of attrition with anyone, as they have more PP's then you, and you will need every PP for your army. Keep the airforce back far enough to protect the front and not be reconn'd by the enemy.

Since you have to recon all the time to be able to bomb something, maybe aircraft should show up as a white counter, rather then be hidden all the time from fog of war.

By the way, that is how you prevent SeaLion. Not by building fighters, but by building bombers. The Germans can't stop you from bombing the Navy at sea, and a Panzer Corp only has 1 hp when its a boat. You just need the fighters to recon the sea zone so you have a better chance of hitting them. Or the port they are in, when they are loading...No matter how large the German fighter force is, they cant stop you. Of course, he can fly and try to destroy your bombers, but they do have better range.

Thanks for your reply. It's very interesting.

However I still dont undertand how the air war is managed by the game and how much it is fair.
At the start of Barbarossa, Germany cant do any successful recon mission, even if Germans have tech 3 and Russian tech 2. Every mission gets intercepted by 2 fighters at 7 strenght zero experience. They are located in Kiev and around Smolensk and hitting every plane I send... Am I doing something wrong or the game need a setting?

About the Italian bombers: it's too much I think.

Hmm..I have never seen the need to do Recon in Russia. In the beginning, they are weak and easily defeated, so it matters not if I know exactly where they are....

What I do though, is use the Panzer divisions to follow every rail line into russia, which acts like a recon, as they can run back a bit when they hit the enemy line.

The difference in tech acts as a sort of +/- on the combat chart, so is no real guarentee of success...just a slightly better chance of inflicting/avoiding casualties.

I did notice in my many attempts to destroy the UK airforce, that reconning is very difficult in the face of enemy fighters..sometimes it takes me 5 or 6 tries before one of my fighter groups succeeds. And you cannot attack anything that you cannot see.

I think that enemy air should always show up as a white counter, rather then be subjected to FoW totally. Or even be visible for attack.

You are using recon wrong.

When you go next to or on top of a air unit you will get attacked every time.

Try hanging back a little bit and do recon a couple of hexes back.

Ok, this makes sense. I had the same feeling.

However at Barbarossa turn 1 Soviet Air Force Should be SURPRISED and stay on ground.

So... what I can do better with my 100 experience points planes?

I see your point of wiev and you are right. Panzer and Mech can do reco.
But I'm used to know what there is in the rear back of the enemy front and maybe hit it hard. Like in War in the East.
