The amount of damage a bomber does to a ship is not related to the size of attacking aircraft or tech level as far as I can tell. What seems to occur is that the plane gets a random chance to inflict 0-2 points of damage to every ship in the fleet it is hitting. So a large fleet will take more damage then a small fleet. And a 3 point Tactical will do the same damage as a 10 point. I use my fighters for scouting and interception only. If the enemy tries to use his air in the interception range of your fighter, he may lose a point off his bomber, and you might lose a point off your fighter. But the mission still carries through. You cant stop bombing from occuring. You could use your fighters actively, by scouting for the enemy airforce, then hitting it with your fighters, but I find you need a fair number of them to destroy him, and will cost you in PP's to repair your airforce. My bombers I use in force, as 10 airstrikes against a hex (even Moscow, or Leningrad) will reduce the efficiency so low as to make it trivial to take.....but it costs PP's to repair the air. You dont really want the German airforce to get into a war of attrition with anyone, as they have more PP's then you, and you will need every PP for your army. Keep the airforce back far enough to protect the front and not be reconn'd by the enemy. Since you have to recon all the time to be able to bomb something, maybe aircraft should show up as a white counter, rather then be hidden all the time from fog of war. By the way, that is how you prevent SeaLion. Not by building fighters, but by building bombers. The Germans can't stop you from bombing the Navy at sea, and a Panzer Corp only has 1 hp when its a boat. You just need the fighters to recon the sea zone so you have a better chance of hitting them. Or the port they are in, when they are loading...No matter how large the German fighter force is, they cant stop you. Of course, he can fly and try to destroy your bombers, but they do have better range.
