Also, the crippled HMS Decoy gets hit by a sub but the damaged BB's manage to evade the subs so far.

You know, were I a British sailor, I would not be comfortable with a posting to HMS Decoy... especially with you two in charge!

Well, we had 5 damaged BB's, one making 6 kts and threatening to convert to an artificial reef and one making 10 kts to which the AI had assigned ONE undamaged DD as escort (for all 5).

Meanwhile, HMS Decoy was hurt pretty badly and had her own DD escort. JJ subs were swarming our obvious egress route..something needed to be done. HMS Decoy was therefore assigned to be the...oh what's the word..yeah, that's it, "decoy".

I felt bad as HMS Decoy had some heroic action somewhere in the 1st-22nd Naval Battles of Port Hedland.

A fresh Nagato and Furutaka do serious damage but Nagato is dinged up as well.

Night Time Surface Combat, near Port Hedland at 57,129, Range 8,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
BB Nagato, Shell hits 10, heavy fires, heavy damage
CA Furutaka, Shell hits 1
CL Kuma
DD Hibiki
DD Shikinami
DD Asagiri, Shell hits 3, and is sunk
DD Sagiri, Shell hits 3, on fire

Allied Ships
BB Colorado, Shell hits 2, on fire
BB Pennsylvania, Shell hits 11, heavy fires
BB Idaho, Shell hits 10, heavy fires, heavy damage
BB New Mexico, Shell hits 2, on fire
BB Revenge, Shell hits 3, Torpedo hits 1, on fire
DD Mahan, Shell hits 1, on fire
DD Bulmer, Shell hits 2, on fire
DD Jupiter
DD Norman, Shell hits 2, heavy fires

Awesome victory, Cap , but I see the good ship Hibiki emerged unscathed.

Somehow I bet Cuttlefish has a small smile on his face right about now...

It wasn't just Hibiki that came out fo that well. Nagato really punished several Allied BB's. One may even sink and they all are going to be in the yard for some time.

*******1st Meeting, Plenary Interagency Planning Committee For the Operation that Shall Not Be Named (PIPCOSNOBEN), Brisbane, Nov. 29, 1942(c)*******

Lt. Gen. Doubleday, SWPAC PIPCOSNOBEN Liason: First, let me welcome you all on behalf of Gen. MacArthur. What I would like to start with today are some ground rules, if that is agreeable. 1) No smoking in the meeting room. I've set up a smoking station 400 yds to the South, near the enlisted latrine.

Col. Edson, SouPac: Excuse me General, is that really necessary? I thought you were a cigar smoker?

Lt. Gen. Doubleday, SWPAC PIPCOSNOBEN Liason: I am, Col., but it's a new rule from Sec. Stimson. It seems the Truman Committee decided the taxpayers were spending too much on cigarettes. War profiteering and all that, you know.

Col. Edson, SouPac: What if we brought our own, General? Cigars only?

Captain Jack, USN: I heard they weren't good for you.

Col. Edson, SouPac: Really? You are serious? We are proposing to land right in the middle of 20,000 angry Japs and you are worried about cigars?

Lt. Gen. Doubleday, SWPAC PIPCOSNOBEN Liason: Gentlemen, in the interest of moving the agenda foreward, I am going to accept the Colonel's suggestion. Cigars permitted but all committee members must produce receipts of purchase. Agreed? Right, item number two. LGBT sensitivity....

How true this is Cap ... one example the decision of the Navy EOD school to recend the motto "Initial Success or Total Failure" in the name of being PC ..we have lost our collective minds ... The really bad news .. we are about to get into a nasty confrontation with radical Islam, and we have promoted officers more concerned with being PC than to prepare us for a protracted HIC with a determined enemy supported by our dear freinds Russia and China

Godspeed to the sons and daughters that have to clean up this mess with blood, sweat and yes plenty of tears ...

Radar, more guns and all, the allies had 1/2 the hits [17] that the Japanese got - 33 + 1 torp. Having a couple of knots speed advantage really does give better firing position and hit probability. Sometimes I think the game engine gives a little too much boost to the chances of a slower ship getting hit.

So now the new amp is up and all the speakers and sub woofer are finally wired up, it's time for "Never Mind the Bollocks" but I'm told it's too loud. Funny, The Killers couldn't be too loud apparently. Anyway U2 wre on while I was out buying an XBox for the DU (no loss there, missung U2). Now we're on to Live Aid and it's time for Dire Straits, time to crank up the volume...

Nagato certainly does not have more guns than 5 BB's combined, even if you throw in the CA. I think all the Allied BB's had radar. Still, it was worth the trade on the Jap carriers. We already have 3 broken BB's en route the West coast. Happy times in the repair yards.

Fort level 5? Is that correct? If you've been hanging around at an enemy base long enough to build up to level 5, you've been there too long (or more precisely- the enemy has been there too long).

If you take the base you'd actually be downgrading, I mean by now the British officers would have the tennis courts complete and be half way through constructing a 9 hole golf course.

Tell that to the LYB's. It seems they are disinclined to give up.

Thirty eight 25% shares in the golf course have already been sold.

If they serve Hendricks over ice at the turn I'm in for the 39th 25% share, but if its these knuckleheads in the rear mixing the libations behind the clubhouse I suggest you introduce "the pole" at the stag bar and reduce the price on the green fees.

"moistened bint"

Can we say that here?

********Dec 1, 1942(c)***********

Oz: Big day in the air over PH yesterday. JJ still putting up very large numbers of Tojos and Zeroes over PH. Perhaps they are flying in from Broome? 3 squadrons of P-40K from Exmouth were ordered to sweep over PH as the P-38 boys are worn out. They go in in dribs and drabs but do manage a favorable exchange. A B-17/B-24 raid over PH does quite a bit of damage to the airfield, including many aircraft destroyed on the ground. A raid over Broome is only moderately successful. Virtually all of the mediums stay home. JJ manages another 2:1 attack at PH but it goes well in our favor.

Ground combat at Port Hedland (57,129)

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 40491 troops, 453 guns, 212 vehicles, Assault Value = 774

Defending force 18776 troops, 536 guns, 394 vehicles, Assault Value = 361

Japanese adjusted assault: 457

Allied adjusted defense: 198

Japanese assault odds: 2 to 1

Combat modifiers
Defender: experience(-)
Attacker:

Japanese ground losses:
1896 casualties reported
Squads: 18 destroyed, 139 disabled
Non Combat: 3 destroyed, 32 disabled
Engineers: 2 destroyed, 13 disabled
Guns lost 18 (7 destroyed, 11 disabled)

Allied ground losses:
282 casualties reported
Squads: 18 destroyed, 13 disabled
Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 51 disabled
Engineers: 7 destroyed, 9 disabled
Guns lost 35 (15 destroyed, 20 disabled)

Burma: JJ has moved air assets to Burma and is ready for our airfield attacks. Looks like we may have to sweep first and concentrate the bombers or use the B-24's for the tough stuff.
