Why you should never leave your best generals in a pocket, after it's been surrounded. Replace with your C-listers, if possible. You may make the pocket tougher by leaving good generals in there, but their loss is a blow to the Soviet command team for the rest of the war.

The backwaters of the North. Q-Ball has only a weak screen of disheartened troops up here, and I won't be able to go much further anyhow, due to imminent supply constraints from the rapidly approaching mud season, and the impending loss of several Finnish units that will withdraw.

AFAIK, they are usable for Airbases, but when the Airhead Supply rule was patched in awhile ago, it was (initially, at least) coded such that both urban types were preventing the Airbases from being able to accept Airhead Supply missions. I don't recall whether that was ever addressed and later allowed for those terrain types, or if it was left by the wayside. Since I've not bothered to actually attempt a test case to check it since then, I took the liberty of informing Q-Ball of this potential problem when I passed him the turn.

I just ran a test and confirmed that airbases in Urban terrain are not usable for airhead supply missions. You can drop supplies on the hex, but they do not get distributed and make the appropriate changes to the isolation status of the units within the pocket. City hexes are good for these types of missions, but not either of the Urban hexes.

The taking of Moscow will reduse replacements from the 120,000ish per turn to closer to 107,000ish. If you can pick up a few more manpower centers in the south he will be under 100,000 k per turn, which will keep about 500,000 men over 25 turns out of his OOB come clear spring turns of 1942.

I doubt it. But even if so, his armaments have surely cratered. That's the worst part of all this grinding -- you can flatline the armaments pool by about October and the Sov will be living hand to mouth for a long time until production comes back online.

It really depends on how you manage your evacuations.

The way I do mine...usually all back online by Aprilish of 42. During the winter you'll be averaging something like 65-70k armaments/turn, it's seriously tight, especially if the kitty is empty. Don't even think about trying to fill out all those brigade shells.

This game has very very little to do with grinding, basicly nothing to do with grinding and more to do with pockets.

This game has been large pocket after pocket. Turn 8 was a gift and sealed Moscows fate and probably the game as the manpower crunch will cost Q-ball close to 1/2 million men by summer.

I would very much like to see the "grinding", but this game has more to do with Q-Ball's error's and Jamiam taking what he was given.

Vs Good German players a pocket that size on turn 8 is game set match. we have seen it in AAR after AAR.

Jamiam has his foot on Q-balls neck and he is not going to let him up off the floor.

Q-ball is one of the best during blizzard, but he has next to nothing left.

I am sure that the armament and manpower pools are drained and the over all morale of the Red Army is in the tank.

What grinding more like a nice summer ride for the GHC
