I think that I may have found our next target of opportunity. This may be the biggest one yet, but since we are all realizing that it is getting difficult to found empty routes anymore, lets take them, and possibly get some sweet planes in the process:

I bring to the table:

Wolverine Air

As of 3/23/74 ranked 120
266 planes
1456 routes
139744 passengers
1585086 passenger miles
Capitalization: $357,887,398
-
Cites with 10 or more gates
DFW
DTW (Detroit )
IAH (Houston )
LAS Las Vegas
LAX. LA
PHX Phoenix

Fleet Information

Nothing out of the ordinary about his fleet, other than he has 18 of these: Boeing 747-200B

Since he his routes seem to be based mainly out of the US, there could be some very profitable routes to come out of a collapse by Wolverine Air.

I am scoping out his routes now.

Thoughts anyone?

PS: ALmost forgot to mention the most important part. I picked up two of his 747-200Bs (in addition to the 18 he still has). They were seized due to non-payment. Sounds like he may be having a cash crunch.

Credit Crunch? How did you hit a credit crunch?

You leasing all your planes instead of buying a bunch?

Okay, a warning to everyone who buys their a/c.......the Airbus A300B4 should never be bought, if you grab some, lease them. It has a 12% depreciation and that will actually cost you more per year than the danged lease payment. I just bought my first one and saw my monthly profit on that a/c drop by 102,000.

So word to the wise, anything with more than 10% depreciation stays leased and never bought.

Newsflash
Scientists have cloned TL-Lines!
Yes, your eyes are working. TL-Lines have been cloned into the R5 world. Where will this end?
As for now TL-Lines in R5 are flying Heathrow-Madrid.

Yep, I saw he lost a few more.....He is on some serious competition routes. I did jump one that I found with only him on.

Make sure you go ahead and get into R5......game is paused until Sat but you can go ahead and setup your stuff.

Yep, I almost did the same thing, but I had never used them before so leased instead. But bought the first one off the assembly line and found out the hard way that it hurts.

Alliance is already started is R5, but it does not show yet. I already got TL showing as part of the alliance, so give a shout with name of airline and we will see Saturday if you are all in there after I send out the invites.

Oh, I also bought every Trident I had and raised my daily profit by 2 mil a day just from that. Even the Super VC10 gains more money buying than leasing. It is a fuel hog, but it costs less to own the pig than to lease it.

Do not buy the blasted TU114!!!!!!!!!!!!! It has a 20% depreciation rate!!!!!!!!!!! I bought a leased one and profit dropped big time. So for future notice, no buying them at all. 10% or less is the only ones I will buy. Big money jumps on 5% and below.

On the a/c detail screen AFTER you have the plane where it shows monthly profit and such.......right above the monthly profit it shows you depreciation rating.

And here you can see the one I bought......notice that the depreciation is more than the lease payment.

Might as well keep them......you already paid the down payment......just run them a few years and then dump them off when better a/c come online. That is what I am going to do.

Okay, R5, TL and Seinberg (damn name) have joined the Matrix Boys........game is paused but you can enter and set up first route etc.

Regarding purchase vs leasing, I've noticed that sometimes, the purchase price of a plane is lower than the aircraft's actual value.

In such a case, do you not gain by buying it and would that not produce an additional gain in your capItalization value?

I see you figured it out, but for the others that wonder.
Chose to start an airline in R5, chose AC and starting airport.
You will then have started the airline, and you can place orders for new AC (no using the used AC pool for the first month), set up routes etc, but the game is paused (see a "pause icon" in the upper left corner).
You are now set for March 3rd :)

Terje

Interesting. Do you have an age limit into the lease before you buy them?

Nope, sure don't.......If it is an a/c that I know actually will make more money for me if I buy it, then I buy it. I refuse to buy any a/c close to 10 years old.......roughly 5 years is my cut off mark for not buying it. Unless I really need it right now off the used market or like now with the a/c void. I will go ahead and buy 6 year old.

Even those Trident 2E and 1E are money makers once you buy them. And there are a ton of them on the used market. I have been fiddling with things to make sure I am not missing anything important.

Also, Cricket Air out of England just lost a ton of a/c to the repo man. I just snagged 4 DC10's off him and about 4 less than 5 year old TU114. So if anyone wants to whip up on him go for it.......I got about 15 routes battling him on for a while now. Plus I just pissed off 1/2 the US market with my invasions. LOL

Oh yeah, I got Speedy, Terj, and the German guy (that name kills me).......LOL

I went 737 to start.......for prop planes, I will be using the ATR family. Better selection in the family for props, has both 50 and larger in same family.

Some scumbag airline "Green Bird Airlines" has spammed a load of my routes from TFS. I'm fighting back on this scumbag. We're roughly even sized. Mainly based out of US.

Yep, he popped me on a few routes, but I clobbered him really good. I popped him in the US on a few routes. He messed up and jumped into about 4 routes that me and Eire had finally quit fighting over, me and Eire went way low on him. Luckily, we are both using props and can go much lower than him.

He's going to get it. I'm going after him all the way now....as soon as I have planes free they're being use against Green Bird. Him thinking he can take over one of my largest hubs is a big no no.....

Jump all over those Trident versions. You can make money on any route he uses a jet on. And there are a bunch of them, or shift those jets onto your prop routes and free them up to clobber him.

Alliance Update

We are pleased to announce that the European Group is now ranked as the 3rd most powerful alliance in the world. Our alliance is valued at over 200 billion dollars. This increase in ranking is due to the close working relationship that our alliance members share. We are not sure how the ranking rates pax counts because they say we only carry 400,000 pax......Air France carries almost a million and Buffalo if over a million per day.

Cricket Update

This airline is doomed. The entire DC9-40 market his from his repo's. I have snagged 6 DC10 versions from his repo's. I do not see how he can survive losing all those money routes. So keep your eyes peeled every day for his nice planes. They are being repo'ed left and right.

Word to the wise, be careful with spending sprees........Cricket leased 150 DC10-30 new and another 75 DC9-40........he spent way too much money and his payroll is kicking his butt. Each month. Those DC10-30 cost about 5 mil each to lease from manufacturer and Dc9-40 another 2.2 mil each. LOL
