How many years will the AI version take? I will bet anyone that, once it is released, this game will never get an AI.

My personal feeling is that the game will never get a really challenging AI as the variables are simply too many. The best to hope for is an AI that will be sufficient to allow new players to learn the game and develop their own skills. Therafter PBEM or Netplay or hotseat would be needed to get a challenging game.

That's my 2 cents.

I wish I understood how AI works better. Like how does Russia form a defensive line? Just thinking about that question and realizing how I analyze it when I'm playing makes my head spin.

First you look at the map and see how far his units can move (some move 3 some 4, 5 and 6)

can I defend this area or that area, if I back up so his 3 movers can't get to me can I defend? how about if I back up further?
Where are my fighters? my bombers? do they need to redeploy?
What about the Germans fighters and bombers?
If i am back up is it worth it to leave a lone corp in a city to slow him down?
or maybe leave 2 good coprs hoping to flip his attackers?

What about potentials for counter attacks? am I holding well enough to stand where I am, how much would a failed attack hurt me?

Do I need to pass?

We'll provide more information on that as we get closer to release. There's a lot that we still need to do to inform you all about what the release plans are and future plans after the release.

There is no question that the game will have an AI, but the AI will require extra work and our goal it so make sure the AI is competent and can provide a good challenge to new players. In the long run, this game is much better played against human opponents, which is why we are focusing on the multiplayer system first.

Regards,

- Erik

CRAP!

For those who do not recognize this dialog, it is taken from Kelly's Heroes. The first line is from Oddball and it is one of my personal favorites.

My favorite line is "Call the guy up, maybe we can make a deal." "What kind of a deal?" "You know a deal deal, maybe the guys a republican."

Edit

Almost as good: "This bank isn't going to fall into the hands of the American Army, it's goin to fall into our hands."

Ahh... The hippies in the Sherman, going after a couple of Tigers, weren't they. Something with a bank, wasn't it. An amusing movie indeed...

Sadly,

Kelly's Heroes is taken for a documentry by far too many who inhabit these forumz,

Next they'll be quoting from Pearl Harbor (TMTSNBN).

They did try to create something that looked like a Tiger, even if they were T34s underneath. Great movie.

This should probably teleport to the movie thread, but Kelly's Heroes was one of Donald Sutherland's best roles. But he was also memorable in three other WWII movies I can think of right off the bat:
- Pinkley in The Dirty Dozen ("Where are you from, son?", "Madison City, Missouri, sir!", "...Never heard of it.")
- Faber in Eye of the Needle
- Devlin in The Eagle Has Landed

Hmmm, all good movies based on actual historical events!

Larry Hagman was the star of The Eagle Has Landed

So someone from Matrix pokes his head in here for the first time in God knows how long, and all you schmucks want to do is spam movie quotes? Small wonder there's no sense of corporate urgency for, oh, the last 8 years now.

Erik, time's a-wastin'. We've been told from the horse's mouth to expect a release in about 3 months, certainly now would be a good time to prime the pump by granting an audience with your most fervent admirers? Get the news and future plans out there, enough of these elliptical updates that serve only to discourage and alienate. Tear yourself away from servicing the latest Gary Grigsby snooze-fest for a moment and throw us a bone.

I'm on the fence about purchasing. I have CWiF already, so MWiF without AI is not particularly attractive. But maybe you have encouraging news on that front, or other baubles to dangle... or not?

Major John Reisman: Which one of you guys wants to be a general?
[to Pinkley]
Major John Reisman: Pinkley?
Pinkley: What kind of general, sir?
Major John Reisman: Just a plain, ordinary, every day, home-lovin' American general.
Pinkley: I'd rather be a civilian, sir.

I'm not really involved in this exchange, but your comment strikes me as being kind of rude. Should I buy a game that's tailored to suit the tastes of someone like youself?

Baron von Richter: David, we are not asking for anything. Europe is ours, we can walk into Britain whenever we like.
Sir David Kelly: If you think we're going to gamble on Herr Hitler's guarantees, you're making a grave mistake. All those years in England seems to have left you none the wiser. We're not easily frightened. Also we know how hard it is for an army to cross the Channel. The last little Corporal who tried came a cropper. Not many people are more positive about this game than me.

What I said was not a criticism - more a statement of fact as I see it (my opinion of course may be - and invariably is - wrong ) I hope so in this case, but regardless, is not a reason for not buying the game.

I might be slightly more positive about MWIF than you, but barely. I am looking forward to crushing you in a game as soon as it is released.

Btw, how is your progress on the internationally anticipated G7YPBW game.

I think that is a topic for the another thread; this thread - as the name suggests - is to be used only by schmucks who want to quote from war films
