I went to bed shortly after posting the above. Had a good night's sleep. Woke up, had breakfast, checked the boards...
NO one replied? What happened, guys? Aren't we interested in the betas anymore?

Frankly, no. Wake me up when it makes into the vanilla version. Until then, as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't exist.

Also, puppies and kittens suck.

Most folks post their views on the beta thread where the announcements and changelogs are. That's also where the devs are guaranteed to look.

If these forums were teeming with activity, then perhaps some would strike up a discussion here, but alas, it isn't so.

My guess is that the quietness is down to improvements/bug fixes/additions etc trickling in at quite a slow rate. This isn't necessarily a criticism aimed at the devs, just an observation. I feel like something BIG has to happen in order to get people really into this game again such as a significant improvement to the AI. This especially applies to those who are long-time players of DW.

A question to anyone who might know - wasn't there mention of a new design screen at some point, not just changes in the way the AI automates designing? Maybe that was wishful thinking...

Webbco,

The design screen has already been improved, did you miss that?

There are still plenty of folks playing DW and buying DW, but forum activity tends to increase only around release times. The official release of this update will definitely reach a lot more customers than the public betas do.

Regards,

- Erik

I've still been waiting on a fix for the lag.
I check the new beta's every release and start up a game hoping I can finally play. But no, still unplayable.
Unfortunate, since I've owned this game so long and have all expansions, but bet I have 10 hours or less on it. It only takes minutes of playing before I get a headache and fed up. This game should be the greatest space strategy out there, and it would be if I could play it.

I installed the new beta (13 on top of the 12), and my save game folder disappeared. Anyone else lose their save-games when upgrading?

Edit: I did a search by .dwg and found the missing files. I guess the only caution is for folks to be aware that the Beta loses track of where save games are stored, so you'll have to hunt down the folder location.

You seem to repeat the same thing every time you post. Are you ill?

The game runs great on mid range machines.

Of course. Especially with 50-60 ships fleets in attacks on enemy capital.

This is intentional to protect your saved games from accidentally being overwritten when installing the new betas. They've been doing this since the start for all updates. Notice that you found your saved games in a separate subfolder appropriately named after the version you were previously running. All you have to do is manually copy them into the new beta folder and if by some chance the new game beta code renders your current game unplayable (hasn't happened yet, but could), you could then uninstall, reinstall back to the previous version and finish your saved game.

I haven't check what I've posted in the past for awhile. I just decided to pick up the game again and those were my impressions.
And I don't have issues running most other games. As a matter of fact I can max most of them out with high framerates, unless they're very CPU intensive, like Anno 2070. This game however crawls if I have more than a dozen ships on screen.
For example I've been playing Skyrim lately, and I can run that maxed with the high-res texture pack also, and get a consistent 60fps. I know that's a first person game, but still.
