Now, now, let's not sell ourselves short. We utilize the most modern theorems of mathematics to plan our operations. For example, there is this Baynesian analysis of amphbious landing optimization:

D(1)=C(0)+T(0,1)

where D(1)=D Day

C(0)=Current calender date

T(0,1)=Time, in days, required for travel from position on T(0) to position on T(1).*

* NOTE: This only works if the solution, D(1) is less than or equal to number of calender days in the current calender month. We are working on the general theory right now and will let you know when we have it worked out.

Hmmm: Nice mathematical treatment, but as I recall, a highly successful non-quantitative approach is: "Get there firstest with the mostest." (Nathan Bedford Forrest)

Hey! It's at least worth trying!!!!

Air Liason, SWPAC:...what exactly do you mean, "90 experience"?

Young man in fine linen slacks: Take, for example, the most skilled pilot in your command.

Air Liason, SWPAC: Very well. I'm listening.

Young man in fine linen slacks: Now, take that skilled veteran and give him 50 more missions against skilled opponents. THAT is a "90 experience" pilot.

Air Liason, SWPAC: How many are we talking about?

Young man in fine linen slacks: That depends on the contract, of course, but potentially........hundreds.

Air Liason, SWPAC: Hundreds? Where do you propose to find all these exceptional flyboys?

Young man in fine linen slacks: Germany.

Air Liason, SWPAC: Did you just say Germany?.......

Don't forget to get some german advisors to the Chinese too. 99 Exp units would be nice ... on the other hand, maybe that's where & how the Braun family managed to sneak into your neighbourhood?

Don't forget the highly efficient German logistics experts who are able to transport tens of thousands of tons of supplies over the Hump using only two squadrons flying long-distance from India!

******************Dec. 11, 1942(c)****************

Dobo: More LYB troops and suppries unroading. There are now 20K LYB's there. A flotilla of PT boats arrive after daybreak and scare off a large amphbious taffy. JJ has bombers both at Ambon and at Sorong (Sallys and Helens). They attack the ground units there and we attack theirs with B-17's and B-25's. The LYB's do not attack on the ground....yet.

PH: JJ raids PH again at night to try to stop our AK's from unloading.

Night Time Surface Combat, near Port Hedland at 57,129, Range 1,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
PB Keiko Maru, Shell hits 19, Torpedo hits 1, and is sunk

Allied Ships
PT-66
PT-67
PT-68
PT-74
PT-76
PT-77

Then the cruisers show up and chase off our PT boats. The Allied DD force that was on station has gone back for torps and ammo after the fight the night before. Evidently the cruisers turned aroudn as well.

Night Time Surface Combat, near Port Hedland at 57,129, Range 2,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
CA Furutaka
CL Isuzu
CL Kuma
DD Hayashio
DD Tanikaze
DD Hibiki
DD Shikinami

Allied Ships
PT-66
PT-67, Shell hits 3, and is sunk
PT-68
PT-74
PT-76

Then Ipswitch expends life number 8 fending off an APD.

Night Time Surface Combat, near Port Hedland at 57,129, Range 12,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
APD Kikuzuki

Allied Ships
AM Ipswitch
xAK Beltana

When the sun comes up the Bettys come back and take number 9

Afternoon Air attack on TF, near Port Hedland at 57,129

Weather in hex: Clear sky

Raid detected at 34 NM, estimated altitude 9,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 11 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 12
G4M1 Betty x 7

Allied aircraft
P-38F Lightning x 2
P-38G Lightning x 3
F4F-4 Wildcat x 1

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 2 destroyed
G4M1 Betty: 2 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
F4F-4 Wildcat: 1 destroyed

Allied Ships
AM Ipswitch, Torpedo hits 1, and is sunk

Poor Ipswitch, they should have gone to get those beers that were promised them.

Moderately effective Allied ground attacks at PH. JJ does not attack on the ground. Supply is improved and the Allied grounds units are slowly recovering.

I wonder if, IRL, an AM has a deep enough draft to be hit by a torpedo? Maybe it was set off by the fishing tackle the crew were using, heavy downrigger weights and all that.

Re: the units at PH starting to recover and getting supply, this is the first clear sign that you will win that battle without having to beat a retreat first. The pressure you put on at Dobo diverted his strikes on your PH troops, just as you expected.
Bravo!

Yes. One of my favorite quotes is Einstein's, "Serendipity favors the prepared mind." I wonder how the Allies pulled that off in this case?

M&M Enterprises is prepared for any eventuality - and opportunity. It appears our two Admirals [one Lordly, one not so much] have contracted out the strategy and planning portions of the game so they could get on with writing the AAR.

Good thing they don't have to retreat first too- they've come in by sea so that's the only way out.

Don't forget to periodically scrape off the 'whiteout' from the screen. The really hot Tahitian girl (I mean assistant) put it there for the typos.

No worries, Mate! I heard they have a squad with a ten-ass [or burro if you prefer to maintain the PC style of this AAR ] team of supplies following the meandering prospector's trail from Carnarvon to Corunna Downs to open a path for resupply or "redeployment to the rear".

The converse is equally true; all bad outcomes are because the combat model is borked.

Good Lord! One mention of strong drink and sippers worldwide come out of the woodwork. There has to be some sponsorship money in this somehow to fund this AAR. Where is that "man in fine linen slacks" ...
