So after a fine traditional English meal, it is settled. (At least there was no Spotted Dick.)

Convene the Great Council of United Earth.

Warspite, Mrs. Warspite, Parusski, and Yogi as the Senior Councilor.

And Slaakman as Minister of Musical Downloads (in absentia).
Warspite1

Are you not one of the council nate25? I thought we were going to be a quintet??

Slaak doesn't have to be an American. This has evolved from the national level to a global one.

Hmmm.

Trying to decide if I fit in on a panel of such august personalities.

Perhaps a Minister Without Portfolio/Head of the Gen'l Staff.

Or - given the family history - how 'bout Minister for Ordering and Requisition Of Nike Shoes?

From 1,000 posts help-12yr anniversary:

Post 629

nate25 I am a very serious historian. No, I most certainly do not - at this or any other juncture - suggest leaving out Basillio's. It happened, its a shame, but it happened. We can never - should never - forget what happened on that small strip of land. But when you say the entire battle took place there, you are completely ignoring so much of the rest of the campaign. That's not British bias - its fact.

I suspect there is an element of guilt in your response, and I don't blame you for that. After all, had the 3rd Middletown (Ohio Players) Regiment been able to secure a supply of Nike Zoom Hyperenforcer Basketball trainers, they may have been able to run to Basillio's farm quick enough to save the town from the fate that overtook them. Oh yes, I have done the research. It was one John nate25 III, your great, great, great grandad I believe - that, as quartermaster-general for the Ohio Players - failed to put in the requisite paper work in time to ensure delivery of the Nike footwear.

In regular army boots there was simply no way they could reach Basillio's in time....I'm sorry, I feel your pain.

Post 633

No problem nate25. We all allow our emotions to get the better of us sometimes. I think we all, from time to time, need to sit back, take a deep breath and ensure we are sensitive to the feelings of others; have more empathy for another's plight as it were. It is important not to dwell on the past and rake up feelings that are bound to be still raw.

With the above in mind I promise not to mention again the fact that one of your long distant family members was an incompetent oaf that, through his sheer neglect and abandonment of duty, caused the horrible, lingering, painful death of every man, woman and child at Basilio's. I mean how difficult was it to order 2,000 pairs of Nike Zoom Hyperenforcer basketball trainers? Sheeeesh what a $%^&*^%.

O nate25 no, no, no denial is not the way to go....

Listen we all have our crosses to bear; sometimes life deals you a tough break. Of course that is not always the case:

One of Steiners forebears was a great explorer who sailed from Europe and founded the Americas
One of mine was Winston Churchill
One of Yogi's was er..a famous bear.. ahem
One of Orm's was Erik The Viking, one of the most famous and successful Vikings in history
In fact, come to think of most people on the forum are descended from great people from history.

....sorry nate, guess you bummed out there

Nate, I think all the body slams you get are because of your post about posts showing some superior attitude toward others...

Yes, just a commoner.

But very comfortable in my common skin.

I suppose I could be the voice of the little man, if no one objects.

As long as a lack of a world-renowned ancestor won't hold me back.

Partly, and its partly because its good to find people who can take a joke and not get all prissy about it. Look at the $%^% that has been levelled at me, particularly by Steiner - its just a bit of fun .

All in good fun, friends. . . it's a serious relief to come here and let off steam.

Now, if we're all done with the huggy/kissy, we've got a planet to dominate.

I've just ordered the purple with gold trimmed robes, per Parusski.

We'll look the part, if nothing else.

Oh nate25 - have you never seen Blackadder II?? If not, beg borrow or steal it - you HAVE to watch it.

And where would I find the captain?
At this time of day he's usually up the old sea dog
And where is the old sea dog?
At this time of day, in bed with the captain

Dont bother with Blackadder I - go straight to II (Elizabethan) III (Georgian) and IV (First World War). There is also a Christmas special (Christmas Carol)

They look good. Rowan Atkinson usually makes me laugh.

Hard to think of Hugh Laurie as an Englishman.
