43-10-10: FatR has started a fighter offensive at PM and Ramree island seems to only want to attrit the allies. I moved all my ftrs to night cap an now he is daylight pasting my AFs close to shut down by damage. I may have to evac PM AIR if he continues ops. Hopefully his OP losses are rising. He is destroying a lot of planes but the pilots are unhurt.

43-10-14: What started as a small resupply mission to milne Bay has turned into a horiffic daylight surface action. It all began two days ago when IJ recon spotted my barge resupply mission to MB. I placed Arleigh Burke as commanding officer of DD flotilla TF246. I figured something was up when I recived this message from FatR w/ the replay.
quote:

I expected a mighty airstrike against my fleet at Milne Bay, and was afraid of walking into a carrier trap...

I had been dropping b25 sea mines at MB for about a week and was pleased w/ this report.

Then, FatR unleashed all his naval torpedo air, my cap did not perform very well, but somehow the naval air went after some transports at PM w/ 60kg bombs...hehehe that was funny.

Things are really heating up here!  I am surprised FatR is willing to turn Milne Bay into his "Iron Bottom Sound", but well... just makes the match more interesting. Do you have an idea of the whereabouts of the rest of the IJN?  What is left in the Singapore AO presently?  And what FatR might be up to here?  Something tells me that he wouldn't just send the remainder of this already somewhat decimated BB and CA body for a delaying action?

Hi Janh:

I think he is buying time.

This is the down and dirty:

Alot of Air losses w/ 2 jap DDs sunk for the cause. Probably should not have done the Magwe attack. p40s and replacement TBFs where used in the MB attack.

43-10-22: FatR has been busy w/ local politics so I used his lack of attention against him around Lae. I did not know if he had his CAP set at 0 or 1hex so I swept salamanue first w/9x spit8s then w/13x p47. Not a direct challenge of Lae but more of a adjacent hex pick.

The Jap TF moved to madang. Another Kongo TF shelled Woodlark and attacked my barge TF. Sadly I did a port strike at Rabaul w/out the Kongo in port.

Sweep the adjacent hex and Rabaul at 39000ft w/ p38s, then sent in the f4u/sbd attack which got mauled but pulled the cap down on the deck.

Then my B24s went right in like a knife cutting thru butter.

At Milne Bay the 32nd division came ashore w/ the loss of 2LSTs. 70 Ki49 skip bombers put 3 250kg into the Pennsylvania, not show on this SP.

I count 50 damaged jap planes. I wonder what % will crash on the return trip?

25 confirmed kills. 50 damaged. I lost 8 planes, 2 LSTs, and possibly one CVL. Pennsylvania should return to port unless the KB is committed. The g4m2s missed alot of CLs and DDs.
Frances hit nothing but targeted my LSD.

It will be interesting to see if FatR can press his attack next turn.

I explained to my hometown gaming buddies this game is like playing Avalon Hill Midway every night.

Yesterday I worked 14 hours, then made 2 game turns, one of which is for this game...finished about 11pm and was falling asleep when I ended the turn....so I 2x F4U and 2x P40 sqn to CAP milne bay. The issue is most of my TFs were already unloaded. A mixed amphib TF of LST/APA unloaded 90% of the 32div at Milne bay. some LSTs had about 10motor support each left that needed to unload. So I split the TF and sent the APA/AKA to the Brisbane. I decided to allow the LSTs(w/ motor support) to continue to unload at Milne Bay. To cover this unload I have 2 SCTFs. One has the BB Penn, CL Cleveland, and about 8xDDs commanded by Calahand. The other TF has the Boise, Java plus 6xDDs and is commanded by Arleigh Burke. In addition one PT TF and one large200+ allied mine field in the hex at Milne bay. 3x PT TFs are on patrol north of Milne.
LBA at Rossel/Tulunga complex includes 5x torpedo sqn and 3xDB sqns.

My mistake is I put CAP on Milne bay but failed to CAP my TFs, some of which are headed south from Milne this turn. So some damage may occur. Massive damage could occur if FatR brings the CVKB south from Truk. And my sub did spot a possible KB move last turn, but did not report any CVs. Moonlight is 3%. Good for the PTs, bad for the Pennsylvania.

43-10-31: Finished unloading 32 div and all amphibs withdrawn from Milne bay. No additional losses. Minor air skirmish. Last attack was against a level 6 fort.

FatR is sick and will be out 2/3 days. Turn to him but he has not sent a replay-2 days.

Ground attack at Milne bay w/ reinforced 32 div in the results. Support by 2 Bombardment TFs and 150 LB. If FatR came south to shell MB then we will have another night surface action w/ 5xPT TFs on patrol.

Molakia, the last jap base in hawaii, was taken w/ shock attack against a 6xfort.

Bit of a bugger RE FatR being ill. I just got my amphib landing ashore in Java in our PBEM- 1800AV ashore in Tjiliitipat and Djorehowdoyouspellthat anyway.

He was kind enough to send through an unifinished Jap turn though so I could check out how my unloading was going and inspect the damage his air attacks had on shipping.

Hopefully he's feeling better soon.

Hey the number of AAR's I've been reading with op's around northern Oz- you read enough of them and you see all your options that you've been toying with displayed. He's learned from your PBEM though- Milne Bay is heavily garrisoned in my game with him- as was Horn Island. Unfortunately for him I've been able to bypass Horn and go for Gove/wessels, took PH and then made the solomons irrelevant by going into Java in force.

Anyway- looks like I'll blow him out of Tjillipatat- he's only got an SNLF unit there against 1400AV. I'm outgunned at Djorewhatchamacallsit but will see if heavy sea bombardment can shift him. I suspect his units have only just moved in there and one may be in strat move- regardless I'll have better prep.
