Hi All,

I am having trouble bombing the mainland..

I trie bombing the out lieing towns, but when I move to a larger City, I get destroyed... say I will attack with over 100 B29-Bs and as many fighters as can reach.. and I vary the attacking levels... between 10k and 25k

and first I do very little damage or none...

I end up with about 20% losses, and 50% damaged even higher levels for the fighters.. All of my pilots are trained over 70 in the Ground field, and my fighters are over 70 in Air, and both defenses are at least 60..

Why no damage!!

Even when my planes are not destroyed and are able to make bombing runs without harass, they achieve nothing!! Even bombing from 8k ft at night...

Most the times I am bombing Airports to try to widdle down their Air power like I did so far, but if I can't get their Air power lower I will get hammered invading it...

Tokyo has over 3000 fighters, and 3200 bombers... I have conquered everything but Japan, and parts of China....

And what is the best altittude for B29s for good damage?

Yes... My bases have plenty of supplies... The action report says... Bombers dropped bombs for each .... The B-29's do little to no damage, but my B-24's, Liberators do some damage... but most of these planes will not reach the larger cities in Japan..

We need quite a few more details.  AI or PBEM?  difficulty level? base size?  screen shot(s) would be best.

There are so many factors involved, but safe to say 100 B-29's properly used will completely destroy a Lvl 9 airbase in one attack (100/100) and trash a lot of supply as well.

Quite correct but the OP has already provided us with one important piece of data which makes the need for providing additional details moot. Tokyo alone has 3k fighters. Do you think the OP is sending enough escorts to deal with that concentration of enemy fighters to allow a mere 100 Superforts to deliver their ordnance efficiently?

What we have here again is another player expecting the impossible to occur when the objective conditions for the impossible to occur do not exist. Besides if he has already conquered everything bar the Home Islands and a bit of China, he should be in a position to have an auto victory.

Hi all

I already won by auto-victory, but what fun is that!! But this is how the game is not as realistic as reality... In 44 & 45 the Allies had little problem bombing Tokyo... besides the high wind speeds messing with their accuracy... that and the many design flaws of the B29 engines...

Yes they suffered heavy losses, but not 50 to 75 %.....

Granted, I am not sure how many Fighters were in the Tokyo area defending against the raids, but I know they never sent up 1000 fighters in one raid, such as in my raids...

Anyways, more disappointed than anything, becuase it leaves no way to attack Tokyo... even night raids do no damage, even though I do not have the large # of losses occured during the day...

Thanks For your input

HI again

I just tried moving the bombing to Hiroshima/Kure. A base with far less airpower.... and was able to add some 400 fighters to escort my bombers... I used smaller 4 engine bombers B24's and alike..

And with all this most of my fighters did not accompany the bombers. they went in in separate, small attcks, and were destroyed!!

I've attached a zip file hoping someone can tell me what I am doing wrong...

I have never had a problem attacking an Airport before this!!

I played a GC to engine shutdown in 1946. It is possible to bomb Tokyo, but not until you have done many things you haven't done first. The AI lumps more and more planes on top of Tokyo as its geography shrinks, and you can end up with a lot of the remaining pool strength sitting on infinite-sized fields in the Tokyo hex. The only way to attack it is to take everything else on the ground and cut off supply, work through the HI stocks so it can't make new planes (the AI does not make multi-millllion HI stockpiles like humans do), and then sweep, and sweep, and sweep. Sending in 4Es against 3000 fighters is going to get you nothing. You can night-bomb with lesser planes and kill hundreds and hundreds of fighters on such an overstacked hex, but you're not going to work it down to nothing in a day or two.

I took Tokyo by ground assault using the Red Army long before it was out of planes. Try that.
