On the mainland, Dunkerque?

Did French Indo China rate as part of metropolitan France?? Is so it may be somewhere in modern Vietnam.

I had to look it up so won't say the answer. All I will say is "how the hell is that possible?". Not that this town should be the last, but the date given for its liberation

Thought I'd better check the with the French as it seemed most odd.

La poche de résistance allemande de Dunkerque tient jusqu'à la capitulation allemande. Le 9 mai 1945, la reddition est signée à Wormhoudt.

yep, JeffK was right. Dunkirk last liberated town as the ceasefire begins.

How did they last? I am very surprised! It's not even near the border of Germany, it's a port.

La Rochelle was liberated late as well. There are even a wiki page that claim that the last French city to be liberated at the end of the war. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Rochelle#Second_World_War
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Dunkirk_(1944)

But French troops entered La Rochelle on 8 May so Dunkerque was later with 9th.

The Germans inundated the surrounding areas, after the Canadians took Calais with a set piece siege battle including Bomber Command strikes it was decided to leave Dunkerque alone. the port was useless, and with the experience of clearing Cherbourg and Le Havre it wasnt worth the effort (it wasnt big). Antwerp finally got cleared so it was left to the Czech Armoured brigade to hold the siege lines.

He consumed raw onions because he thought they were healthy, scrubbed himself with a rubber brush instead of bathing and greeted visitors completely naked.

The Canadians took Boulogne on Sept 22, 1944 and Calais on Sept 30, 1944 in battles described as "Siege Warfare". (Cinderella Army by Terry Copp) Both battles lasted 6 days.

I would say Churchill because of a story where he greeted Roosevelt naked?

How about some visual questions (not toooo hard) but tough to Google.

Where is this? And what is the 'Famous Quote" associated with it?
