I finally played a game long enough to invoke the Shakturi storyline.

I'm playing as Dhayut in my current game. When the refugees appear near me, we strike up a friendship. I do, however, think there's something unusual about them because they build several wonders and start attacking our neighbors.

The Guardians come and ask me to join the alliance against them. I WANT to join the alliance, but the Shakturi like me so much that we can form a mutual defense pact if I chose to offer it.

I want to be GOOD, but I'm also Dhayut so I'm really quite EVIL. Decisions, decisions...

The Shakturi seem to gather the bug empires together to form an alliance against the rest of the galazy. When they reveal their true selves, the war of good against evil begins. If you are roll playing the Dhayuts, they would probably join the Shakturi. I have not played the Dhayuts, to this point, but it sure would be an intersting outcome to join that alliance. Destroying the Shakturi home world might not be an option to win the game. Let us know what you decide.

Question: when the Ancients ask to speak to you about this, you can either A) Listen or B) Not. If you chose to not listen (B), then it appears the game goes on without the Shakturi rising?

Well... Decision is Your, but would not it be cool to strike combine offensive against every not insectoid in the galaxy together with Shakturi? Maybe You will be invited to some anti Alliance alliance? ;) Plus, it is worth to check what will happen if You will not agree to be part of the Alliance... But it is Your game and Your decision :)

You're all thinking too damn small here. Join the 'Alliance'. Take their ships, ditch the losers and join the Shakturi. Win all around!

Hmm... Good idea! :D But maybe it should go even further? Insted of taking side of Alliance or Shakture just become the third side of this great galactic conflict? That would also be interesting and it also would lead to Victory all around :) Also it would have additional advantage of free using bombs on planets - since we are all at war why to hold back? Total Annihilation of the enemy is only accectable outcome afther all. Isn't it? ;)

No, the damned robots launch some kind of a tiny endlessly repeating loop in some forgotten corner of their positronic brains (or whatever they have) and tirelessly keep asking you again and again until you listen.

I did long ago, with 128 troops, landed them and things were going well until their troop ships arrived and landed 30 reinforcements... I gave up that game.

I think someone did it in an old AAR but as far as I remember he was around tech 5-6, used a couple hundred ships and 400 troops

So it's possible -

Then what happens? Do you win a evil victory, or do you break the storyline?

Invaded the Guardians once the Shakturi developed some decent military of their own. Then invaded the Shakturi before their storyline kicked in. Not that it would start after the premature fall of the Guardians.

Controlling those two planets alone was enough to take on the rest of the galaxy. Became way overpowered economically. By the way, if your empire is strong enough to capture the guardians and the shakturi at the same time then you've got nothing to worry about.

Was playing Slukens at that time. Everyone hated moi empire but who cares. Was pushing them around like hell. Eliminated few empires close to my borders. Created some decent space between the empire and the other players by destroying severely habitable planets of other galactic civilizations. Good times.

I hope those greatly discussed new ship design options in the latest patch will offer a bit more challenging gameplay. Still on the last released patch.

Now playing teekans. How pathetic. Those will do anything for some credits.

By the way, you definitely don't require hundreds of ships to conquer any or both of the ancients. I did it with 10 ships sized 1300. Very powerful defensive and offensive capabilities. Lost only two. Once those cleaned up the system of all enemy forces, the troop transports moved in to fulfill their respective mission. Huge troop transports. I prefer quality over quantity. Easier on the system and the eyes as well as micromanage. A simple matter of personal preference, of course.

I don't know what it does to the story line, if i recall that was the game that I freaked out when I saw the shakturi and attacked them right away. They didn't get a chance to reveal themselves. I can't remember if the guardians said anything about them after they returned or not. Having both the ruins though was AWESOME
