Oh, the irony of the Universe; Everything destructive is so beautiful.

very nicely put tjhkkr. Where did you find this? By the way, I'm curious, but my eyes are too bad and my Hebrew is rusty: What is the motto in your picture (trying to transcribe: Cha'il Ha-somethingorother?)?

Very nicely put! Except maybe for the e-coli bacterium...

It was in the News... and sometimes the guys like looking at this...

As to the IDF symbol; I sent an e-mail to Erik asking to remove it; I have tried but been unable to.
Someone took offense to it, and I am not at all interested in stirring the pot on this forum.
We have too good a group of folks on this forum for that.

Cool! We actually had an aurora here in the UK because of this. I missed it though!

Dang Igard....you must learn to fine-tune the sensors when your cloaking device is
activated (I assume to protect your Cargo Bay contents from Data).

Man, a missed aurora is no joking matter. I still remember the fascination about them reading Jules Verne novels as a kid.
I feel for you Igard, I would feel even more over an ale...if you have some left

EDIT: Oh, and TJ....you have the soul of a poet

Well, it is suppose to be a on ongoing thing...
I am curious thought IGard... do you see it as a lit horizon, or do you see some of the bands like we see in the pictures?
This aurora so cool.
Here in Missouri, I have yet to see it at all... not like the 1938 aurora where you could see it WAY south...

The images on the news showed a very large wispy lines of aurora, right there in the sky, not the horizon at all. Looked really beautiful.

I think it was only seen 1 night last week, and was expected to be seen the following, but there was cloud cover over most of the country.

Gutted that I missed it. Another thing I still need to tick off my astronomy wishlist!

Well, the next solar maximum cycle is well under way, so with a bit of luck there will be another aurora visible from Scotland soon.

Keep an eye on http://spaceweather.com/ . The eruptions on the sun need a day or two to reach the earth, and if conditions are right the next big one could be visible from Scotland - but to maximize your chances you should find a find a lake, shore or mountaintop so you have a clear view to the northern Horizon.

Unless you live in Northern Norway - then you just have to look straight up ;)

And more importantly for Elliot

http://now.msn.com/now/0221-death-star-cost.aspx
Math nerds calculate Death Star cost at $852 quadrillion

I wonder if Elliot's economic model takes this into account...

Tj, thanks for that vid of the solar tornado, quite breathtaking and strangely unnerving.

As for the death star, well I'm just surprised we could even put a figure on that. It also says it would take us 800,000 years to build it? hmmmm.....

Worth it!

What sort of camera and equipment do you have?

If I take a million shots, I'll maybe get a shot like that once.
