that you can get advanced aircraft YEARS ahead of their real life dates if you know how to, which I wanted to limit somehow while still leaving the IJ player the possibility to be flexible on what he wants to research.

our big counteroffensive at Soerabaja failed and I also expected to see hundreds of IJ bombers attacking our Dutch units here so we would fail too if some IJ troops would be flown in but there were no air attacks and the IJ paras that were flown in weren't enough... only a small victory and nothing to really cheer about, the attack damaged the oil/fuel facilities though which was our main goal... together with the sinking of the enemy CVE off Timor this is the only Dutch victory of the war so far... from now on we have to rely on the Dutch subs to hurt the enemy...

that was another nice one... I spotted the enemy unit marching towards the base, have set the base force to strat move (took two days) and the third day when the unit should move out, the enemy moves in, cancelling the movement of my base force... omg, this is just borked too... when a unit comes from the South and your unit is supposed to move North, why should it cancel the movement of your unit? As a result, our base force is kicked out a day later... even more annoying due to the fact that if I would have set my unit to MOVE instead of strat move, it would have moved out... why a unit can't strat move out of a hex when an enemy is in the same hex is beyond me...


we had intel about an Ind Eng Rgt moving to Darwin today but this isn't news as we also spotted that convoy leaving Koepang today... it makes me wonder though because I have a level 5 airfield at Darwin, bluebook knows that I have a hundred fighters in the area and he has been attacked by my Marauders earlier, so why does he send his carriers to raid the shipping lanes to Perth and at the same time sends out the Darwin invasion without proper aircover? I won't complain, I just wonder... he could of course also try to wear down my fighter defense over Darwin but the only time he tried that he lost 3:1 and didn't dare again ever since... we'll see how that turns out...

1st Ind. Engineer Regiment is loaded on a Japanese xAK moving to Darwin.

have moved my 50 available Marauders to Darwin, all set to nav attack... 21 decide it would be worth to fly to attack the most important target on the map at the moment... this is what surprises me so much, bluebook has Hiryu and Co NW of Perth and sends his invasion convoy without proper air cover towards Darwin... only Hosho is covering the convoy and no LRCAP from Koepang either... the bombers mostly evade the Zeroes and drop their bombs achieving an absolutely ok result, you couldn't expect more from 21 bombers... two bomb hits on the CVE sound nice, you have to remember the halved bomb effect in this mod though so the CVE is actually hit by two 250lb bombs we are used and this isn't much to be honest...

the longer I play and think about this decision, the more it worries me because it makes IJ convoys even more immune than they are already (at best you get 50% of the bombers attack them) and while it nearly 100% aims at Allied anti shipping strikes (how many torp bombers do the Allied have?) it nearly doesn't effect the enemy at all as the numero uno anti ship weapon is their aerial torpedo dropped by Betty & Co... so if the torpedo effect hasn't been touched, it only hampers the Allied IMO and increases the already existing inbalance of naval strikes even more towards the Japanese with their all destroying anti shipping air force... I sure support toning down air attacks against ships but this has to be true for both sides so if bomb effect is halved, the same has to be true for IJ aerial torps as their in game hit rate is even more ridicoulos compared to real life than bomb hit ratios...

hmm, this will lead to pretty strange number of torp and/or bomb hits though, when you notice you would need 12 torps to sink a BB (I probably need 12 1000lb bombs to sink a carrier now anyway) but needing twice the number of bombs now while still needing the common number of torps would be even more strange... wonder why not leaving the bomb effect as it was and tone down the accuracy (after all why is this factor there?) to have fewer hits? Wouldn't fewer hits be more realistic than far more hits needed to sink a ship with bombs having their effect halved?

Anybody knowing more about this and why it was decided to do the way it was done? Otherwise the mod really is great but this issue really concerns me and makes me thinking about it...

OMG what a frigin silly target selection, the bombers attack the CL and DD while not attacking the big invasion convoy with at least one BB and a CVE at all... well done boys... 50% of the bombers decided not to fly in the afternoon either despite huge high value targets with a detection level of 10 sitting just off the base of the bombers... as you can see, CVE Hosho (the crappiest of all IJN CVE) is still able to operate aircraft after being hit by two 500lb bombs... yes all this really is concerning for me... pretty much like fighting with Hudsons and their crappy 250lb bombs only in stock...

I've asked bluebook why he sends his avaible carriers in the area to raid my lines near Perth when he sends his invasion convoy towards Darwin without air cover at the same time and he also thinks he needs some air support for his invasion... until at least three IJN fleet carriers show up I will have air superiority around Darwin and I've also got 50 USAAF Banshees read to be flown in and those drop 1000lb bombs so might at least do some harm to a CVE or the freighters, all those bombers got pilots with 60-65 nav bomb skill so they should hit something...

While bluebook overruns most of the map taking all the empty areas he at the same time failed to force me to use my airforce so my squadrons are pretty much intact with over 200 first line fighters in the pools and enough reserve pilots already to fill out all my frontline squadrons with 70 skilled pilots...

Given that it's early March 1942 those JP bomber losses look quite reasonable, particularly when you consider that the JP Sortie numbers are a third of the Allied Sorties.

Replacing JP bombers is quite a pain, even in Scenario 2. It's very easy to goof up the JP industry balance by over-expanding air factories.

Remember - AA is highly dependent upon available Supply, so you shouldn't mass AA units if you can't supply them well.

the reason IJ sorties are far less than Allied is the fact that I got an endless number of training squadrons with a couple of aircraft each and 95% of my airforce is doing training.


your comment about AA makes me smile a little because I could massively supply the AA and it still did nothing as the daily non stop bombing kept the units at disruption level making them 100% useless while they still fired 700 supplies into the air each day. AA alone burnt 40000 supplies. Clark Field's supply dropped 800 per day with AA but only 100 per day without AA. So if I wouldn't have been so silly trying to do some damage with my AA and having them all fill out their flak guns I would have had enough supply to last more than 600 days (without fights).

enemy invasion fleet for Darwin was spotted heading back to Koepang today which means the enemy breaks off his attempt to land troops at Darwin for now due to not having any real air cover... Hiryu and Co are not turning around heading back towards Timor so the attempt to land at Darwin is postponed for quite some time, guess he will try to land there just before the amphib bonus is gone... unfortunately we couldn't dish out the damage I've liked to, having sunk one xAK carrying troops and putting two bombs into Hosho is all we get, while Hosho was still able to operate aircraft, which means she hasn't evne suffered combined damage of 50... still a small victory for us as we stopped a major enemy operation for now and we didn't suffer doing so...

Status: offline 		while I expect Hiryu, Shokaku and Zuikaku operating South of Perth, we have spotted another enemy carrier TF East of Brisbane... We have identified Akagi and Kaga operating in SOPAC earlier and so I think they are now raiding my lines near New Caledonia... same as South of Perth, they won't find anything important...

not sure what I am really facing in the Perth area, today we engage another BB TF in the area with our only available assets, which are two second class DD squadrons... amazingly enough our old destroyers get away unharmed after putting two shells into two enemy ships... what are all those ships doing here, we spotted six BB in total now, is he going to invade the area while having cancelled his Darwin operation? WHAT THE HELL? Parallel to the invasion of Australia's West Coast the enemy also lands troops North of Brisbane!! Those carriers spotted yesterday weren't raiding, they covered an invasion force all my patrols failed to spot... talk about a nice realistic tactic, the only thing that prevents the IJ landing in the Antarctica is the map ending North of it... oh how I hate that ridicoulos amphib bonus and this PBEM clearly shows how ridicoulos it really is when the IJ player wants to play it to the edge...

Status: offline 		Will you commit any LBA or real warships / carriers to try to oppose these latest invasions?  I mean, reading your AAR one would think the allies didn't actually have any LBA (other than one group of marauders) or carriers at this point, but I'm pretty sure that's actually not the case.    I'm sure your carriers must be off doing something important like guarding the approaches to Vancouver or S. Africa though.  (Who knows, they could be next!  )

Not trying to fight when you are disadvantaged makes sense of course, but the extent to which you offer no resistance to his advances is contributing to the wanton rampage I think.  Just a little effort at Darwin had pretty good results after all. 

The big ships do eat a lot of fuel, but only really badly if you make them move quickly.  He might be using cruise speed (still a decent 8 hex/day) a lot to extend their fuel life.

I don't want to take away too much but of course I will use my forces against an invasion of Australia. His advance has more to do with "I ignore any real life need to have a line of supply and take Sydney before I take Port Moresby or Darwin or Perth and I have a fantasy feature that is called amphib bonus that lets me unload as if I would have 21st century abilities". Of course, if I would have been able to sink the whole IJN in the SRA he wouldn't be able to do this but heck, who sinks the IJN in the SRA, normally you lose 9 out of 10 times so that's not an option to me.

I've used my forces when I could do some harm, the annihilation of a whole convoy of two dozen ships at Kendari with Force Z for example, but not if it is senseless. And when I look at my resistance at Singapore, it is pretty much the best I have ever seen in all the years of WITP and AE as we have resisted for weeks against a force of 3000+ av and the enemy lost combat squads worth two divs, let alone those that were disabled.

If someone wants to land 2000 miles from his next base the game lets him do so and I'm fine with, I will have the same ability to do so. I don't think it is realistic but not much you can do to change this so no critic here. As to the amphib bonus, well this is the real joke because what would take the IJN three weeks to unload at at level 1 port is now done in two days, THIS is what should be changed, no matter how long the JFB cry around that it is need to take the SRA. It isn't needed to take the SRA (it is for the AI) it is needed to do such crazy things we see here, where probably nearly a dozen divisions are going to land on Australia in March 42 and they load/unload at non existent port facilities like my divisions do at San Francisco.

But hey, this thread is called ending an IJ wet dream and this is what I intend to do. So far it looks impressing what the enemy did, but basically I can only repeat myself, he took EMPTY ground and when he tried to tangle with a place that was defended it didn't go according to his plan. We'll see how his adventure will turn out, I can asure you, even if he would succeed taking Australia, it will for sure NOT GO ACCORDING TO HIS PLANS!

With the situation as it is now in the game (ahead of the AAR) I am thinking the Darwin operation was just a feint, what speaks against this though is the fact that the transports I hit were loaded with troops. Oh and if you think it is only one group of Marauders, there were actually 6 groups and all were set to nav attack all the time, it's just the game that decides that it would be sufficient to fly only 50% at best. But you will see soon that also those Marauders will see action and they will be doing good.

A real problem for me in the coming weeks though is the bomb effect of SAP bombs in Babes. I have spoken to JWE on the issue and I was told that there is indeed the need for a change and he will look at it and while an ongoing game can be updated, the changes will be too late for me when I could really need the db correction for my defense of Australia because as it stands now, my bombs are by far not as lethal as they are supposed to be which makes it pretty twice as hard as it should be. When you see freighters take two 1000lb bombs and they just sail on you are sitting in front of your monitor like

I can asure all readers that the coming weeks will be an interesting read and I can also asure you that I am too experienced to have lost Australia already. With ignoring both Darwin and Port Moresby the enemy gained weeks (if not months) and this has quadruppled his chance to actually take the continent but the chances are at best 50:50 IMO. The coming weeks will show one major operation, if I succeed, his chances will drop to 20%, if I fail, his chances will nearly reach 100%.
