Well damn........Chia Pet is no longer listed in the member section over there. Now I have to watch the 3-5 routes me and him were sharing and defending.

Looks like Sheepy has taken control of Starflyer. Never dealt with him, so will have to watch and see.

Oh, and I have confirmed it is Viking that screwed the payroll........his debt jumped another 41 billion at month change over.

Viking Luft is starting to shed planes.

I saw 5 767-300_ERs in the bin (and they were snapped up before I could get them).

Before they disappeared I right clicked the aircraft ID and saw they had been seized from him for non-payment.

I checked his 2 routes into Brazil (and unfortunately his planes were still there).

Those disappearing planes means that his routes will begin to either open up, or become less congested for competition than they were before. Take note of that if you are a US airline!

In the meantime though he is still mucking up the payroll situation for the rest of us.

There should be some sort of a programming check to prevent/minimize this. If he does not have money to pay leases, then he surely does not have money to overpay an inflated payroll. How many workers remain there if their paychecks are bouncing?

American AIrlines just lost a number of planes to the bin as well.

I have jumped on his route into Brazil.

Opportunity for US based airlines to squeeze American Airlines for routes and send it into a death spiral!

Yuxi removed the offending payroll and promises a fix soon for this issue. But he left Viking alive at negative 400+ bil in value.

They really need to speed up the death of airlines.

There are 289 airlines in R5 right now. They must have cleared out some deadweight .

If someone was looking to join or start a 2nd airline in R5, now would be the time to do it.

Also glad they payroll issue is being looked at.

Well, Viking is the next Cricket.......actually he is even worse off than Cricket was.

Anyone going into R5, the US is not the place to be.......it is turning into a dogfight on every route. LOL

I had a solo route last night, woke up this morning and there are 5 other airlines on it now. LOL

A 300 pax route has 1200 seats avail and profit is almost nil. I am running 298 seats on the route with a profit of 1200 bucks.

I can believe that. It looks brutal. I have gotten just a taste of the level of competition on some of m long distance routes into the US.

There will be a bloodbath in the US. Many will not survive. IMHO, to make it, you have to have a good balance of domestic and international flights; you have to use planes wisely and appropriately, and have a good distribution of your activities (not all your flights out of just a few airports).

Poor MACair........he got brutalized by me on a few routes. And then instead of backing a few flights off my routes he invaded while I was away, he increased them. I consider that a cause for war so I jumped 4 of his solo long haul.

Go for it.......he is playing games with a couple of my routes. And he never responded to the PM I sent about Great Plains.

So hammer him if you so desire. I am not cutting him any slack. Every route of mine he enters, I respond by hitting 2 of his.

In R5, an airline named Blu, based out of NRT in Japan, is shedding planes into the bin.
Might be an opportiunity for anyone flying routes into NRT to have some fun at Blu's expense.

Jumped one of his routes. But I am currently fighting several route take overs right now from start ups. Plus fuming over not being able to build a danged terminal outside the US. That pisses me off. I found a ton of long haul empty but airports have no gates for me to lease to grab them.

I've run into the same thing with my second Euro airline (7B). Finding routes with 250+ pax but no more gates available.

I suppose I should start making a list of those since open skies for European airlines kicks in 2000. I presume I will then be able to build those terminals In other Euro countries.

Not sure........LTN has a ton of US routes wide open. I just need a gate or some gates. Flat out sucks. LOL

I asked about it in the general forum over there and got into a pissing contest with some dude about seating capacity. He is one of those (must be totally realistic people).

R5........This for you Great Plains and Meus.........new guy sliding in........Redcap or some such. New airline, but been playing over a year there. Oh, he hit me on a Love route. I sent PM and got a good response from him. Much better than the silence or "up yours" we get some times.

He is agreeable to sharing and not fighting. I told him to contact you all before he tries to spam a route. We just came to an agreement on a couple of routes to share. Try to be nice if he asks to share a route. I am going a 60-40 split with him on my solo routes if he so desires to share them.

You do not have to share the route, but I find it is better than watching a profitable route turn to dust in a war.

O2.........Sienberg (damn German name).........Sydcal should be contacting you about the MAD-DUS route to work out the numbers unless he dumps off completely. He said sorry he did not look at who was on there.

I offered to pull off the route if the pax were needed to meet both your needs.

TL-Lines

O2
We are now focusing on the smaller routes (50-100 PAX) as the bigger ones are more or less all gone.

R5
We have just started flights between most major British cities as there are only a few companies that can compete with us on these.

Pre ordering a few hundred planes in R5 in prep for the euro zone free up in 2000.

We should probably discuss any new target hubs and centres we have in mind.

From checking there's no one operating out of Malta or Czech republic. Providing we can open terminals I'd like to go for one of these.

My Euro airline (7B) is "not quite" as large as yours is (it's ranked 146) and I will no be able to afford leasing a couple hundred planes for open skies---lol, but I do intend to order up going into 2000 so that I have planes to use.

I'm not 100% sure whether the open skies will be applicable to only those countries that were EU members as of 2000, or whether in will include all that are now (I suspec the latter but that is just a hunch).

I put together a spreadsheet list of the countries that will likely Be included.

I agree that we should plan out who goes where. There will be enough chaos as it is, best to at least minimize it between ourselves. There are more than just he two countries you mentioned that are currently "empty".

When I get home (on a smartphone now) I can upload the spreadsheet to this thread.

I think we should definitely coordinate strategy within the alliance for the EU members.
Perhaps by building terminals in key cities (as previOusly referred to by 2ACR) we can help the non-EU members as well.

Meus just blew past me in the rankings in O2. How the heck did he do that?

R5.........TL need to get into London Luton where there is a ton of empty long haul to the US. I cannot grab any due to no gates for lease. That is a cheat too.......if you want to make sure no European based airline can grab your long haul, just lease all the available gates and pay the lease costs. Would work great if you find that 65,000 per month with good pax numbers.

Won't help you with the other US based airlines, but will stop the others dead in their tracks.

R5: Empolyee morale was 58, now 40.
I picked up a Luton gate off after another airline failed.
I'm really hoping these double salary months hurt some rivals out there, particularly anyone who hasn't adjusted the default 15% spare staff downwards.

Have been adding more flights now onto the heavy competition routes, just to give MEUS a presence as wide spread as possible. No way can those routes be controlled (and anyone can operate with me) but at least it spreads more routes around if competition does hot up.

O2: Overtook some little airline in the rankings.
Not bad considering MEUS started out when the game world was about 10 years old.
Secret - browse airports, then look far down the list of destinations for places that no-one flies to. There are very few routes MEUS actually compete on, hence profit margins are high

It probably helps that once I add flights no-one can see how busy the route is (not even me)!

You sorry dog......I been waiting for someone to drop a LTN gate in R5........there were a ton of US routes empty.

I have not actively searched for empty routes in O2 for about 10 game years.LOL
But hey, that is what happens. I have been rotating a/c with newer planes, and retiring planes as new ones come online.

Yeah, that stealth mode is a bitch......but it tells me who is on that route.

EU Open Skies Planner

I cannot vouch with 100% accuracy that all countries listed above will be included in Open Skies as of 2000. The EU grew its membership over time and I am not certain how the developer represented this.

The yellow highlighted countries represent countries modeled in the game that do not currently (@ July 1998) have an airline operating in the country.

The ones marked with an asterisk may be an EU member, but are not represented in the game (i.e. not in the airport list)

I also included a column with the number of airports in the country. Those with multiple airports should allow you to establish routes internally within the country (i.e. from one Lithuanian airport to another) once the open skies goes into effect.

This will help you plan the routes that you would want to establish and gauge the type and number of planes you might need.

As mentioned earlier, we should establish beforehand who is going into which "unserviced" country so that we are not tripping over ourselves.

Post in this thread countries that you are interested in. I can update the spreadsheet as we go along and re-upload it.

Malta for me would be my favourite.

As 2ndACR said before there's still plenty of routes from the uk as well.
