My first crack at German 1943 camo 1/100. I'm not very experinced btw
just finished painting my first infantery ever. Here's two pics of it. Russian SMG team (the unit has 6 other SMG teams plus a command team). I hope to have the entire unit painted within two weeks.
A russian SMG team has a ROF of 3 (great!) even when it has moved (great!) but only a range of 10cm (not so great!). Let these suckers in close and....
I'm no photographer, but am sometimes called a good painter, though I typically work in 25mm.
Here is my first 15mm attempt, "An unknown Kampfgruppe of Armeeabteilung Fretter-Pico, Early 1943." (I was impressed with what this command accomplished after the die was cast at Stalingrad.)
Hopefully some of my detail work comes out, but if not, oh well. The backstop of the force, 3 Stug III F/8

By the way, if you'd like to know more about my crusade against BS rules, you should know I've been banned from their official forums because of my crusade against the New-Zealand-only "Use machine-guns as the equivalent of 81mm mortars in indirect fire" which is based on a single anecdote (unverified) of a NZ unit doing so in the war.
I will not play against an NZ force (not that there's ever been more than one in my area) that builds a force to use this god-awful, complete-fantasy-of-a-rule...
I'm a crusader. It's what I do.

I have two flat boards that I glued a roll of hobby grass on so it's flat. Terrain is bought and placed wherever I feel like. I don't have the skills, nor the time, to build terrain. This way is also more flexible. I'll have a friend over in two weeks time and post some pics.
Finished another three teams. Next week I'll do the last four and the unit will be complete.
As you have noticed I am now painting an SMG platoon and after that I will paint a rifle platoon
The only things left after that are 5 recon vehicles and 4 Katjuchas (I can't spell the damn thing)
I will build an army (Mixed Tank Company) of 1500p or 1750p (or less for a quickler fight) so everything above is just what I can choose from for variation. Much of above can be in an army of 1750p (points) but not everything. What I have painted can of course be used for other Soviet Flames of War lists like a Tank Company or Mechanised company.
My full army will debut sometime in July/August I think. Takes time to paint.

Do post pics when you can, I love miniatures. I have about 300 minis for Battletech, fully painted. I never got into WW2 stuff, just didn't seem like a crowd for in Colorado Springs when I started.

They look fantastic. Still surprised people still wargame with miniatures though. When wargames like Combat Mission came out I didn't really see the interest in our group or club for that matter. Well in the gaming side of things. Certainly the modeling and painting aspects are a separate entity in itself.

I definately think the modeling and painting aspects are primary purpose most miniature enthusiasts take to there particular choice of mini ETF. Finding someone who plays 'your' brand of miniatures has always been a bane in my side. But that just gave me a bigger incentive to make more mini's....enough for someone else to use if there they didn't have any .
When I was looking into FoW, I bought a "prototype" model to work on and see how the kits are in general. This is a Stug III I got.
When I was visiting my son at Monot AFB, we took a day trip to Bismarck, and one of the hobby shops there was selling their FoW stuff at half price. I wound up spending $100 there. If/When I get into this in depth, I'm going to build a US Army group.
I hadn't built any WWII models since I started my Warhammer FB/40k habits. I'm currently going back with a 1/700 USS San Francisco. One thing about wargame miniatures is that my painting skills have improved quite a bit. I'm not done with the Stug yet, but I used good 'ol Tamiya arcrylics and Citadel washes. I don't know about taking pics of my models. What was looking good with the naked eye now has every glaring imperfection shown with a hi-res camera. The combo of the camera and the lighting makes it look rougher than it is when seeing it in person.

I thought that using the MGs from the Infantry Division Support/MG Battalion in an indirect fire role was a somewhat common practice in Commonwealth armies, even going back to WW1? Don't know if they had the effect of 81mm mortar rounds, but it was more a way to deny the enemy use of/movement through certain areas.

wish I had been there. Would have bought myself tons of russians and germans
Anyway, don't use Tamiya for hand painting. They are horrible for that. They are SUPERB for air brushing though. I include a pic in this post with Tamiya Kaki airbushed on my soviets. After that I use Vallejo for the rest (paint brushing). Vallejo is SUPERB for hand painting.
