Alas, I am fated to miss out on such things.  And I'll never be able to get Tweets that folks just had haddock for dinner or are thinking about going to Lowes to shop for a refrigerator.

It's good to know that I'm not alone in not caring that somebody is now going to sleep, shopping for some other thing.

I'm with all of you that agreed with CanoeRebel.

Apart from struggling to come to terms with the new fangled technology of Bathchairs and Eartrumpets, the technological revolution has left me far behind.....

Facebook? Tweeting??
Bah humbug to them all, just another way of trying to extract more money out of people by ever more devious means.

Now where did I leave my chalk and slate.....??

What ever goes on face book will one day be used against you ...

3 Court cases I have attended as witness including sexual assault all involved terrible facebook posts.

I am on face book though but never put anything remotely personal there or express an opinion. Remember free speach / Its only what the authorites cannot do you for that is free. They are watching you all through face book and twitter - maybe this as well?

I suppose every forumite makes extensive use of technology.  Even I, a leading Luddite, use my computer exhaustively at work, for it makes me job so much easier.  Without a computer to exchange information, to research, and to obtain photographs, I'd be toast.  Technology that makes life easier is where its at.

But technology also exacts a hidden toll that few people that buy into it are aware of.  Or perhaps it's that they willingly pay the toll because they enjoy what it brings to them.  But there are those who find the prospect of instant and perpetual availability a tyranny that is unnacceptable.  We do not say that technology is bad.  We do not claim that others should not use it.  We simply elect to bow out, choosing a quieter and less stressful life.

If you are interested in me, I suggest you stop by Zulu HQs O club on a Thursday evening. Should Thursday evenings be inconvienent, I may be found near a Vespa at the local pub or winery on nice weekend evenings. You would actually be able to talk with me.

If you were my Facebook friend you could see a picture of me in a diaper.

I find that older users tend away from the "what I had for dinner" stuff and more toward life events, family news, and politics. I have found dozens of folks I once had in my life but have lost touch with. I don't always contact them, but it's nice to see how things turned out for them. Just tonight I found an old college buddy I haven't spoken to since the early 80s. Found out his mother died a week ago. I won't contact him, but I find these sorts of signposts of time to be interesting and to fill in life's gaps.

Respectfully, Twitter is about who you follow. Follow eedjits and you get eedjit comments. Follow the right people and you get fantastic material - choose your 'friends' wisely. When I was working I had over 500 fellow professionals feeding me information, ideas and the latest research/ developments. Best professional linkages in my whole career.

I suspect the same can be said of Facebook - which I use to keep up to date on organisations and places I am interested in.

Beware sweeping generalisations

I second the Moose's sentiments. I've reconnected with a bunch of old friends from school and my time in the military. It's been a blast for me.

"Blasts" come in many flavors. A Facebook friend I once had quite a bit of sex with recently became a grandmother. Not only is one, she looks like one. Sobering in its own right. Fortunately, I have not changed a whit.

As I look up old school friends I'm reminded of that great line from "Grosse Pointe Blank", delivered by Joan Cusack. It's to the effect that when she went to her HS reunion all the people "seemd to have SWELLED."

Balance my friends, balance. Everything in moderation. As I've told my kids, don't put anything on facebook that you wouldn't put up as a banner on the front of your house.
