Stating your opinion strongly is not bossy, in my opinion. You're not really tell me what TO DO. You're telling me what you think would be in my best interest from your experience.

I did read in the 'get to know the forumites' thread that you had studied extensively in history.

I hadn't realized how the devastators performed in this historical attack - can you imagine devastators getting 7 hits on a target in the game?

Wonder how things would have played out if the first American strike had found Shokaku and Zuikaku instead of Shoho, while the Japanese strike was busy sinking Neosho and Sims. Potentially 2 Japanese CVs in flames, with both American CVs intact...

That would not be an experience I wish on anyone.

Yeah if this battle happened in AE there would be all kinds of screaming and yelling from both sides!

subs: I-9 pulls out all the stops and fires two torpedoes at ML No.214, whose fragments nearly destroyed the other two boats nearby.

I-156 ventured a hex too far when I sent it to Addu to check out a RN presence there. Turned out to be CA Cornwall and Exeter with about 6 DD. Inconstant defied her name and dropped 12 hits on the sub, which sank outright, (the 4th sub lost so far).

West Australia: Units in Darwin rest while Nells from two groups bomb the Aussie stragglers. Good damage achieved. We'll start the chase in a few when all indicators are that troops have rested up.

So Pac: At Noumea 53 B-17 fly in and meet two zeros. In the air we lose 1 zero, plus 3 more on the ground, to one ops lost B-17. There were 56 runway hits.

The KB pulls N of Tulagi to throw subs and search off the track, then will head back down toward the harbor. Many sub sightings again by the Kates and Vals with one reported hit.

China: The 77th Chinese Corps decided to go for a stroll near Chungking. Not sure what it is trying to do out there in the open. I sent 67 Sallys over to find out, which destroyed 7 and disabled 39 squads. It's possible my base force was sighted coming out of the trees and an ambush has been ordered. That won't work very well if nothing is left of this unit in a week.

Still not enough supply to attack at Chengtu. Chinese reinforcements have moved one hex SW of Kienko. Still bombing them to slow them down. Several convoys of supply are coming, about one small one per turn and two larger ones within the week. I want one more attack here at least with these odds.

Bombing is hitting both troops and the fields at Chengtu in an attempt to keep disruption and keep moral low, as well as reducing AV. On the day 20 infantry squads and 14 non-combat squads were disabled and 3 guns destroyed. Small, but multiplied by a week, not as insignificant anymore. There were 3 more hits on supply as well.

Burma: No more noise here. Rebuilding Oscar and Zero units. Ryujo's group has been doing extra duty manning Rangoon and will now fly back to their ship to head to So Pac.

subs: Search from the KB, Tulagi and other bases in the area finds at least 8 subs buzzing around between the Solomons and New Caledonia. A lot of the reports are showing S class US subs. So an attempt at working torpedoes.

West Australia: Still resting troops and pounding the Aussies in the clear near Darwin. No action in SW OZ at all, except the Babs I keep losing over Geraldton. Must be a lot of flak there.

So Pac: At Noumea another 45 B-17Es hit the fields. On the ground 1 Zero is lost. All others have been moved back to Luganville.

I'm nervous about all of the attention being paid to Noumea and the area around it. Not that this won't be taken by the Allies in the fairly near future. I was hoping for a date sometime in November or December though. The goal would be to hit the landing, whenever it is, and try to at least exact some good payment for the place.

China: Not enough supply yet. I went through all of China today in an attempt to see f certain bases were still set to hold supply, or were over-allocated. I think I found about 40,000 supply just sitting around not helping the cause. Hopefully some of this will move West now to Chengtu. Bombing continues.

Burma: Over Schwebo 25 X-wing … I mean P-38s flew in and wiped out 12 of 39 Oscars for 3 P-38s lost. I'm sure those guys just splattered a flock of geese and broke their props.

Later in the day 60 Blenheims, 30 Marauders and 50 P-40s turned injury into insult and got 65 field hits, 11 supply and 16 service hits while losing no bombers or fighters. No Oscars were lost either.

After this 18 Marauders came in solo, late for the party, and met 53 Oscars, 13 Zeros and 4 Nicks. As all were reacting from distance and at 20,000ft, only 3 B-26 were shot down outright, and another 5 were lost to ops. Oscars will now have a lower altitude on the CAP totem pole, and maybe they can get to the bombers more quickly. He's consistently coming in at 8,000ft.

After all that was done the beasts arrived again, 25 more at 31,000ft and took out 4 more Zeros and 5 Oscars for 2 lost.

subs: KVXIII is sighted but not attacked by two PBs. Another sub reported hit by the KB Vals.

West Australia: Troops start the chase toward a mop-up of the Aussie troops in the area.

So Pac: Small 2 DD cover group takes position at Koumac. Good timing. Again a fairly large TF reporting APs is sighted to the South of Noumea. Just as the KB arrives back at Tulagi. Refuelling commences.

China: Another quiet turn her waiting for supply. Just the usual steady bombing of Chunking, Chengtu, Kienko and Kweiyang, the only four Chinese bases left to bomb other than Kashgar.

Tanks pursuing troops out west. Should catch them tomorrow or the next day.

Burma: a brigade arrives at Rangoon and will move to Lashio, then into the mountains to help prevent a mass exodus by the Chinese armies if the central cities collapse. Kunming has just made level 4 forts and currently is garrisoned by the 55th and 33rd divisions and an independent brigade.

Emily's are being produced at 14 a month. I'm just getting enough to begin putting them in larger groups. So far only 2 plane detachments have had them. This should improve the durability of our patrols in enemy territory.

PS - Just a note to say there are very few pics of Emilys in action out there. A few parked, a few taking off, but not many in the air or doing something. Interesting. I would have though the opposite.

So Pac: Several Allied SCTFs show up at Noumea during the night. The brave but undersized defenders react strongly. First 4 MTBs take on 4 US DDs, and one is sunk. No torpedoes are fired.

Next the 2 DDs from Koumac meet CAs Northhampton and Pensacola with 6 DDs. The IJN DDs show their mettle putting 4 hits on DD Woodworth leaving her with heavy fires, getting one hit on Pensacola and putting a long lance into DD Meredith sinking her outright. (As this is an ex-girlfriend's name I was not sorry to see
this DD sent under).

Next the amphib TF showed up with 2 CAs, a CL and several DDs embedded. The uploading was unhindered by the presence of 4 mini subs and the 3 remaining MTBs for the early phase. Later they showed up and did cause the amphibs to pull away and maneuver. Hopefully this small delay will cause the ships to have to remain long enough to be reached in a few days by the KB, now refueled and starting out from Tulagi again toward the South.

The MTBs couldn't get a shot off during the entire exchange. Then I realized that although the TF was formed here it most likely needed an AGP to load the torps. I had just assumed they arrived loaded. Stupid. Could have really done a bit of damage here, as they did get within 10,000 yards without being sunk. Live and learn.

After 4 different engagements all MTBs were sunk. Then the minis tried their luck but came up against the SCTFs. In three different engagements 3 were sunk or mortally wounded for no hits. One more in base for tomorrow.

The Allies landed 136 AV worth of the 2nd Marine division! A Port service unit and II US Fighter command are here as well. No engineers. Interesting. He must assume he'll be given free reign to bring in more.

The IJN strategy here will be to oppose any and all incursions in New Caledonia until later in the Autumn. This landing will surely take the base, but any and all efforts at resupply and reinforcement will be contested. This seems too early for the Allies to be able to take this base, even though I fully intend to abandon it after a certain date and while I still have CV superiority. The intention is to send the newly freed divisions from OZ and land at Koumac, eventually moving to retake Noumea. I see this as a trap, and the Allies have fallen into it. If I can beat them to Koumac with the reinforcements, I can bring two or three times the raw AV and more force on the water. The 4E threat from Fiji is real and difficult to stop, but this territory is jungle and should protect troops somewhat from the severity of their attacks.

Thanks to Historiker's insistence reminding and convincing me that the KB is better as a complete unit with ALL IJN CVs included, the others are already in the process of moving from Singapore to the So Pac area. Another SCTF is moving as well including the other 2 fast BBs and Yamato. Several Fuel TFs are moving as are support units to load into Belep Island to turn this into a fighter base with Zeros and Nicks should 4E bombing be so busy interdicting the movement of our troops that this can happen unhindered. The 2 divisions will begin loading today and should be at Koumac in 8-10 days. What I need now are many more Jake and well trained ASW air units to move into Belep, Koumac, Luganville, Rossel Islands and everywhere else nearby, as well as 2 or 3 good 4 DD ASW TFs on constant patrol. There must be 12-15 DDs North of New Caledonia alone.

At the least this could be fun and teach me a bit about the naval portion of the game. I need to learn more here before the serious battles later in the Solomons, Gilberts, Marshals or Aleutians. Already I'm amazed at what 2 IJN DDs with good commanders can do. I want to try more of that.

In simultaneous operations small Allied landings occurred on Norfolk Island, Raoul Island and Lord Howe Island. Retaking these bases is still under consideration, mainly to be annoying, but also as possible scouting platforms, but most likely will not happen at this date.

subs: A few subs are showing up again in the DEI around Singapore and near the Celebes. There are several air and surface ASW units in both locations, and around Singapore this could mean another dead sub soon in the shallows.

PI: Cebu was taken in a very simple Da that resulted in 5:1 and with minor casualties for the Empire's forces. All Allied units surrendered. This brings to a close all offensive operations in the PI. (There are still a few dot bases to finish off in the E DEI). The 146th Rgt and 56th recon unit will move to Carnarvon to reform their division (I can't remember the number just now).

China: B-17s hit troops at Chengtu. He most likely won't try that again unescorted. One bomber was shot down, but 4 more were lost to ops and one Zero was lost. Still not enough supply for an attack.

Do not overlook the use of your China Command HQ (page 178 and Rule 8.1.1). She will pull in extra supply to whatever base she is at. Also, if you are continuing to be on the offense here, prep her for the next base your going after. Getting an 90% increase in AV if the 'dice gods' are on your side always helps. I have mine close to the front at a base prepping and then have shattered division broken down for rebuilding with her.

The China Command and North China HQs are both sitting in Chengtu. Plus a few range 1 HQs. The Southern is at Tuyun. So lots within range and several at base. All are now about 40-50% prepped for Chengtu.

Two newly arrived HQs are moving into Central China as well and will begin prepping for Kweiyang and hoping to pull supplies and help heal troops at Chihkiang. They're just walking past Changsha now.

As I've said before, I'm all in for China. I just hope Jocke doesn't figure out how under-defended Burma and Sumatra are right now!

Here is the state of things in the So Pac area today. The invasion is well supported on the surface, but includes no air support that is within sight as of yet.

The KB will attempt to get within range in two days. Day 1 in mission mode, day 2 at full speed. A SCTF will move to Noumea as well, composed of one CA, 2 CL and 5 DD.

Jakes with decent Low Nav skill are at Belep, Kates at Luganville, and 9 Rufes are stationed at Koumac. A 2 Emily detachment is also at Koumac.

subs: The KB planes attack numerous subs flooding the region South of Tulagi. He's definitely set up a kill zone here. Not attacks on the KB TFs though. One sub reported hit.

A few subs seem to be venturing into the DEI again. KXVI was attacked near Singkawang today. There's a lot of ASW air and surface force here so I'm happy to see this valuable Dutch sub in these shallow waters.

So Pac: Jakes from Koumac attack the invasion fleet at Noumea, but out of 7 planes none get a hit and 1 is lost to flak. I expected more, but these are not the better trained Low Nav pilots I'm bringing through now. In Noumea 222 AV of the 2nd Marines is now ashore. Raoul island falls.

West Australia: Fuel and engineers are being dropped at all West OZ ports. The facilities will be built to an extent, but airfields won't go over level 3 except at Carnarvon and Exmouth.

subs: Pickerel shows up near Singapore and goes after a TK TF. The SC escorts ward it off but don't score any hits. Sargo launches a spread of 4 at at TK TF near Truk, but none hit.

The KB runs over several subs on its full speed run toward New Caledonia. S-46 goes after Shiranui with 4 but misses.S-47 launches 2 at Kagero and both miss. About 7 Allied subs are sighted in the area.

The Mini SSX Ha-5 hits xAK Rodney Coleman with one torpedo at Noumea and sinking sounds are heard! The first mini-sub success. I heard later though that this ship must have had a collision or run aground first, as Jocke couldn't figure out why it had 82 float damage the previous turn. Still, it's good.

So Pac: After putting itself at risk through these sub screens the KB gets into position just to the East of Koumac and finds ... nothing to hit. The amphib ships terminated unloading and scarpered to the West. Only 230 AV was unloaded and it's possible that many of the supporting mechanized vehicles are still aboard the ships. This bodes well for the plan to reinvade.

It's unfortunate not to be able to hit these ships with the troops still on them. The KB will move up through the reefs near Koumac and to the west in the hopes that these ships will not completely retire. Also, i've decided to send fuel to Milne Bay, a size 3 port, to avoid returning by the expected route to Tulagi.

B-17s bomb the troops at Noumea with little success.

China: Chengtu troops have supply!!! A shock attack will go forward tomorrow. I can't risk a DA and not giving it everything today while the troops are all in the white for supply. If we take the base, I'm sure the industry will suffer, but it would be worth it.

Burma: In Burma B-17s go for Toungou and meet 7 Zeros. No hits are registered as the Zeros sweep in again and again, damaging 8 bombers. 5 were listed lost to ops while I lost 1 zero to ops.

45 Marauders hit troops at Myitkyina disabling 8 squads. The fields here are wiped out and no CAP was in the area. If he turns this into a comfort zone I'll LR CAP soon to keep him on his toes.

China: Chengtu falls!!! The shock attack achieved a 4:1 and destroyed 1101 Chinese infantry units! All industry is wiped to zeros, though. This will not be a productive base any time soon, for either side. The Chinese have only 3 bases left to them. Kienko, Chungking and Kweiyang.

So Pac: The Allies take Noumea handily today. No contest really. All units will flee to Koumac and wait for reinforcements.

The KB couldn't make contact with any of the retreating Allied forces and so will move to Milne Bay to refuel.

subs: PB Tomitu Maru drops 2 penetrating hits on KXVI near Singapore. A long way home, so this one could be in trouble. US DDs near Sydney return the favor but only get one good hit on RO-66, which should make it back to base.

So Pac: Several ships are sighted South of Noumea again as the KB leaves the area. One section with 4 CVs will only move two hexes while the Kaga and Akagi TF will head to Milne Bay to refuel quickly. Hopefully this will keep him from committing to unloading more troops.

IJN bombers hit Cairns today putting 40 hits on the base and destroying a couple Wirraway.

A strange occurrence in China today. A Chinese Corps came out and moved to block the progress of a base force on it's way to Chengtu. After a failed shock across the river against the base force, we attack today and the base force knocks back the Chinese Corps! There is not much supply around it seems.

subs: Ro-64 is hit mildly twice by DMS Hovey. The DMS is traveling with some PTs, probably refueling them on the way to Noumea. Yuck.

So Pac: Another TF shows up at Noumea. The 4 CV section of the KB will move back into range while the rest refuels. This is a gamble, but the US CVs were last seen near Sydney, so I'm hoping that they're still on that side. Also, it would be tough for him to make a move not knowing exactly how many ships are in the KB right now.

China: Tanks in the far West DA at Wasu, getting only a 1:1, but taking out a 8 infantry squads. Hopefully tomorrow the doors will open.

Also showing up this month is the Helen IIa. This could give the IJAAF a bit more ability to be used offensively outside of China. To start 85 a month will be built. Sally factories will be turned off for now as the pool is around 50 and many will be free after being replaced by the new Helen.

subs: Near Isle of Pines RO-64 is hit 3 times by DD Laffey and Ralph Talbot in a TF with CA Northhampton.

West Australia: The 48th division hits the stragglers from Darwin and gets a 37:1 attack, destroying over 200 squads. None surrender, so it'll have to keep chasing them down.

So Pac: Jakes from Belep hit xAP Blomfontein at Noumea with 1 60kg bomb. The 4 CV KB make it within 8 hex range but the Kates won't fly to hit the ships even though they do sight them multiple times and record hits while searching. The CVs will move just to the South of Noumea tomorrow. A SCTF will have to be detached to deal with PTs that are now at Noumea. Another SCTF will move down from Koumac to hit them as well, and a third will screen the CVS one hex from Noumea.

Five units are now listed at Noumea. I'm a bit upset this TF was allowed to unload and not taken out earlier. If the divisions land though, it most likely won't matter that support units have landed. The fields will be hit continually to thwart fort building, but happily they started out trashed from the 4Es. They're listed at 68 damage now. The base also lists 26 fighters. If they do come up tomorrow they should have poor moral and hopefully will be overwhelmed by the KB Zeros.

China: The tanks at Wasu continue to chip away with 1:1 attacks. Today 29 squads were destroyed. No hurry here as supply is moving from Urumchi and these units have taken no damage.

It seem some units are either moving out of Kweiyang to escape or to cut our line to Kunming from Neikiang, or both. A contingent of about 3,000AV will move from Chihkiang to open the river hex North of Tuyun, held by only 6 units of 80,000 Chinese. Some 250,000 troops are in Kweiyang and could reinforce however. Once we get there the 1,000 AV from Tuyun plus a bunch of arty could move over the river. It'll still be a while before we can really push here. Many troops are not nearly recovered in Chihkiang.

Burma: Not sure if he's just building up pools now or what, but it's still very quiet in Burma.

subs: Trusty shows up next to Toboali and is sighted twice by PB Heiei Maru. More ASW TFs are created to hunt these interlopers in the shallow areas where they are vulnerable. Truant shows up near Phuket. More ASW Lilys will vector in this direction. Grouper is attacked near Kagoshima by another PB.

So Pac: Again KB planes don't fly naval attack missions to Noumea, possibly due to weather. They do fly search, and see the 4 juicy caps at Noumea just sitting there. Not happy about this. Maybe tomorrow.

SCTFs don't make it close enough for the PTs to react.

China: At Wasu another 1:1 attack destroys 23 squads.

Burma: Something going on today. Hurri IIcs sweep Myitkyina destroying 2 Oscars that bleed in from Lashio for no losses.

subs: I-172 goes for an xAP near Isle of Pines, but misses with two torps. I-20 is hit with one slightly damaging shot near Newcastle. KVII is spotted by a PB near Belep Islands, and Seawolf near Muntok.

West Australia: Troops are steadily filtering out of Carnarvon, and the Allies seem content to let this happen unhindered. The Air HQ was moved to Exmouth, and only the one base force is left here with the troops from 1 full and one partial division. The rest of the partial is on its way from Cebu. Most subs seem to have left the area.

So Pac: Zeros sweep Cairns, where 27 fighters had appeared yesterday. For the loss of 5 Zeros, 18 P-40s are shot down or destroyed. Not bad.

One measly attack flies today toward Noumea. 37 Zeros and 7 Kates are met by 12 P-39s. xAP Rangitata gets one 250kg bomb hit and 11 P-39s are shot down. I'm happy about the fighters shot down, but these CVs should be launching a full attack against an amphibious force like this, when there are no other targets nearby. Not sure what is happening here.

China: At Wasu 24 more squds are destroyed in yet another 1:1 attack.

Burma: All quiet again.

Skip the "B" model and go straight to the "C" model. The B is a dog in A2A combat due to the poor performance of its gun/cannon. If the R&D efforts for the B already are fully repaired, none will be damaged if you switch to the C model.

Status: offline 		Thanks. I will check the groups again. I thought I'd gone through them, but one other thing I've noticed is that the beginning groups have a pilot commander, and if that guy is shot down you get some other chump to step in who might have skills all over the place.

As for the Tojo IIb I concur completely after Sulusea's recent testing. I should achieve IIb ability in late spring 43, then both factories are going forward to the IIc. I could build a few more at the end of the IIb run and get the IIc up to 6-8 months ahead of schedule. Not sure if it's worth it yet to push that hard. The IIa is a pretty good plane in the meantime. I'll have lots of new planes coming online in the next year. I want to try them all, even if it's only in one or two groups.

subs: Salmon lurks near Rabaul and goes for a Cargo TF but misses with two shots. I-10 goes after an ASW TF near Lord Howe Island and misses with two torps, but is lucky to not be DCed.

West Australia:

So Pac: The KB pilots finally launch a few good strikes today. In range of Norfolk Island they find a SCTF hanging out there. In two attacks the Vals do most of the damage as the minimal number of Kate pilots can't seem to find their aim. One DD may be in sinking condition, another on fire and CA Northhampton is hit twice and left on fire.

Better news is that a strike at last hits the amphibious ships at Noumea. Only 2 of 4 xAPs are left in sinking condition though. The ships at Noumea were only hit in the afternoon even though they had been seen for days and a small strike went for the Norfolk Island TF that morning. This CV group had better perform at a higher level against Allied CVs if we stand a chance against them. All commanders will be checked at the next port visit.

These CVs will move to the East and then North hoping to avoid any strikes from the Sydney area as well as avoiding subs and then will move back toward Koumac to await the rest of the KB and support ships. These will be sent down from Rabaul as soon as escorts are available. If I can keep the airfield at Noumea out of action this area should be relatively safe from air strikes. Only long range Catalina strikes, 4Es or CVs could reach New Caledonia.

P-40s show up a Cooktown today and Oscars sent on a sweep wipe out another 15 for the loss of 5 Oscars. The last few days puts another month's worth of P-40s into the scrap heap.

China: Wasu was captured today and 81 squads were destroyed. Still, all 4 units retreated and now I have to send the tanks to chase them off road.

More units are moving out of Kweiyang to the SW. Bombing is hitting the area to slow movement and injure ten while they're in the rough hex.

Burma: No noise. But, the first group received the Tojo IIa today at Paoshan. The small groups that are already vulnerable will get these first, then the larger groups.

Although the Klipfontein showed no damage from the torpedo hit this is how I imagine her looking in Noumea harbor later in the day. It's an actual image of her sinking after running aground in South Africa after the war.

subs: Today lots of sub actions again.

I-10 is hit twice but not seriously near Sydney.
I-170 is attacked near Portsea with no resulting hits.
Seawolf is hit with 2 penetrating shots near Palembang. Not listed as having heavy damage so it'll probably make it. This is the first serious DC attack by the CHa type of sub chaser boat. They also get in a second attack later scoring no hits. I'm happy about that. Moving them to the shallow water seems to have helped them be more effective.
The KB runs over S-33 but the sub launches 4 torps at a DD and misses.

So Pac: The Aoba SCTF goes into Noumea to try to have a go at any ships left there and bombard, but runs into the PTs. The battle is ineffectual on both sides. Then Aoba hits a mine. Good to know about those. It's left with 27 float damage and will retire to Tulagi, then move North. Could have been worse.

Zeros find nothing up over NE OZ and all fighters have moved out as shown by recon. Guess they need to regroup.

The 4 CV KB will move North toward Kumac. I just have a bad feeling about them out here not linked up with the rest of the KB. All ships will move to rendezvous West of Koumac. It still may be a few days as the refueling in Milne Bay is taking several days.

The first convoy of ships with one division is nearing Horn Island. The next is two days behind, and base forces are between the two. Yamato and company have just arrived at Milne Bay and will loiter there for a fees days until the KB leaves and they get a turn to refuel. If and when mines are cleared from Noumea they will take a shot at bombarding the base there.

China: Troops are moving SW and it seems they have not been spotted yet. The Army just across from Tuyun is still stationary.

Some supply is flowing sporadically into Chengtu to aid the healing of troops there.

Burma: The Tojo has an inglorious start today as 1 is shot down by 13 Hurri Iic sweeping over Myitkyina. This was unintended bleeding CAP and has been reset.

subs: The continuing battle near Ominato makes me wonder. Maybe the subs are here for recon more than attack. So far it's just been subs vs CHa up here.

Today Pollack is sighted by CHa-33. No attacks.
Seawolf looks in decent shape as she launches two torps at a DD near Djemadja.
Skipjack launches two torps at an AKL near Truk but both miss. Then in the afternoon tries again. Same result.
I-10 goes for two DDs near Sydney but misses. No hits in the resulting attack.

So Pac: The 4 KB CVs refuse to launch an attack against ships at noumea again today. Doesn't look like weather as it's listed as overcast. Not sure what is going on. The ships move just to the East of Koumac.

Yesterday 4 DDs were sent to intercept PTs in the open ocean, most likely being led to Noumea by a DMS or something, and we couldn't find them. The DDs will head for the known PTs at Noumea tomorrow which should be heading back there after a foray East looking for the CVs and missing.

China: Good air raids on Kweiyang and Chungking can't be helping the Chinese supply situation. 5 supply hits on each today. Air raids also are hitting the more vulnerable troops in rough or clear territory maximizing the hits. I feel like things are really coming to a climax here. Jocke sent a message saying he thinks China is finished. I'm not sure it's over as I still want Chungking, but it's definitely looking brighter after Chengtu fell.

Now the critical point will be to make sure Kunming is solid and troops reinforce there. Some tanks and two divisions are moving to fill in behind Chinese troops moving that direction should they try a breakout.

Burma: Nothing happening here today except the Brigade making it to Lashio and going into move mode for the long walk to Paoshan and beyond.

subs: More subs get into the fray.

The British get into the sub war by sending Truant to patrol the approaches to Singapore. Truant comes up twice and is first sighted by a PB and dives, then moves in again and launches to at Otake Maru an Ehime class ship carrying fuel back from Rangoon. The ship burns up and goes down later in the day.
Sealion attacks ASW DDs near Ilse of Pines but misses with 4 torps.

So Pac: There is a running battle with PTs today as a 2 CL and 3 DD TF fights 4 battles in succession with them down the coast of New Caledonie. They were set to patrol south of Noumea and ran into the PTs half way there. One PT was sunk as the agile little things avoided fire most of the day. Two MTBs recently formed at Koumac also get into it with the PTs, getting one hit while taking none themselves.

In the air Jakes from Koumac try to show up the boys from the CVs by flying against the amphib ships at Noumea. Four of them drop 3 60kg bombs on Rangitata leaving it with heavy fires and heavy damage.

The proud KB commanders finally commit their planes later in the day in a combined attack against the ships, the fields and the port. Good results at last. This should also keep forts suppressed and the AVP hit might make patrol options here less possible.

China: Armies are moving now North of Tuyun. It looks like the escape and bug out is beginning again. Not sure where they're going to go this time. It's odd to build forts and establish defensive territory and continually abandon it. But I'll take it. We might get there in time to attack. Bombing has commenced and will continue. Our troops are a day away but in the red on supply for some units.

Burma: The Tojo pool is building and will be given to to another 12 plane group tomorrow. No forays by either side here today. Recon is scouting and trying to see changes in fighter distribution and ground troops. So far nothing seems to be moving forward through the woods.

subs: Subs continue to ply the waters South of the Solomons and near New Caledonia en masse. See the map below.

I-168 misses APD Gregory with 2 torps but escapes unharmed near Sydney.
Pollack again is sighted by CHa near Ominato.
Haddock 'elects not to hit' AKLs and a PB near Kagoshima.

West Australia: Near Fenton the 48th division hits Aussie stragglers and destroys one units while mauling the rest. Still have to chase them down off road though.

So Pac: The DDs Naganami, Yukikaze, Akebono and Sazanami get to the PTs today and take all 5 of them out with very few shots at 8,000 yds and then closing to 5,000 yds. That feels good!

The two DMS at Noumea clear only about 7 mines on the day. Not great, but they'll stay until forced out.

The 4 CVs just North of Belep hit Noumea again. This time taking out both an AVP and an AGP and getting some moderate damage on the facilities and fields. Could have been more for all of those planes, but I'll take it.

The sections of the KB should link up again tomorrow. Had a collision with the Kagoshima and a DD that nearly sank the DD and slowed up the TF. Sent it back to Milne Bay.

An interesting development as a DM/DMS TF is sighted out West of New Caledonia. Not sure if it's ASW or what it's doing there so close to known CVs. This puts everyone on alert. Several SCTFs will protect the 4 CV TF and the amphibs unloading at Koumac now (350AV ashore).

Another division is on the way to Koumac and is near Milne Bay now. The rest of the CVs are moving out and after the slowing caused by the collision of Karishima with a DD will meet the other 4 CVs in two days to the West of New Caledonia. Base forces are on a fast transport TF nearing Koumac.

The omission in the troops sent to Koumac is a naval engineer unit. One is at Rabaul and wil be flown in using the Mavis transports.

With my CVs still exposed and not yet linked with the group moving from Milne Bay I felt very uncomfortable about this message. Usually it means Jocke is planning to hit me hard somewhere. And judging by another message after the turn and something I see on map, I think his CVs were moving in to strike!

His next note said;

Well, if it comes to happen you will definitely know. If it does, please give me a hint on a scale from catastrophic to great on how it went. I will have to wait until tomorrow afternoon until I can watch the replay!

Somehow his attack did not materialize. Details below.

So Pac: The night started out with a bang. A 4 DM TF shot in toward Koumac and Belep Islands. A SCTF made up of CA Mikuma CL Jintsu and 3 DDs were at Koumac set to react 4 hexes and took on the DMs near Belep at 112, 155. All but one of the DMs were sunk outright, and it's odd that the Preble took 6 hits from various caliber guns but did not sink. The next step was another SCTF made up of CL Natori and DDs Shiranui and Isokaze. They finished off the Preble at 112, 156, near Belep again.

The odd part is that CL Natori takes a hit from a mine at Belep after the battle!?! It moved through Belep to get to the Preble and fight it so I'm not sure how any ships laid down mines before the battles happened. The Preble couldn't have done anything between battles as it could barely float and wouldn't have been able to move that far.

Happily, Natori has only 27 float damage and will leave for Tulagi and later to the North.

The 2 DMS at Noumea did a day's work and cleared 87 mines for the day, but now must head to Belep Islands and get to work there.

The really interesting part of the turn came from a sighting by the Jakes from the SCTF to the West. An Allied SCTF with 1 CA, 2 CL and 3 DD was sighted and with it some kind of a CV traveling with a BB. Looks like an incomplete sighting to me. I wonder if this was the surprise Jocke was cooking up for me. Not many planes are listed but maybe there are other TFs nearby.

Needless to say I'm very pleased that this is the day the KB reforms as the strongest unit it has been so far in the game. The original 6 are joined by Junyo, Ryujo, Hosho and Zuiho carrying a 30 plane Zero group of very expert pilots. Hosho's Kates are a top notch ASW group and it also carries a small group of 10 Zeros. The Hiyo is on its way down to join up. It should arrive within 2 weeks.

Later in the day B-24Ds from OZ made their first appearance. (cheers to ny59giants for predicting this one). They hit Koumac going for the port, but 5 Zeros and 7 Rufes met them. They did amazingly well. One Liberator was shot down and one lost to ops. Only 2 hits were registered on the port. One Rufe was lost but the pilot was fine. Tomorrow one group of zeros will be set to 30% LR CAP here to keep a strong deterrent while unloading and building an airstrip.

subs: Not many attacks today but looking at the map, a lot of subs out there in the So Pac area still. He doesn't appear to be vectoring them each turn though, which is great.

Salmon went for xAKs on their way back to Rabaul after dropping fuel at Milne Bay. It missed with two shots.
Grayling was sighted near the HI.

China: One hex North of Tuyun a BA reveals that our Army has gotten stronger and that they face not very many Chinese defenders. The raw AV is 3461 to 859. Supply is good, so a DA is ordered but not sure if these troops will be around to hit then as they have been moving for a few days but have also been bombed.

Burma: Nothing today again in Burma.

Several plans are coming together in China. At a spot SW of Kweiyang the IJA is attempting to stall any advance by massed Chinese forces into the mountains and Kunming. This stronghold has 1,000AV and level 4 (32%) forts. The Chinese have about 80-90 units and most likely 6-7k AV between Kweiyang and the spot on the crossroads two hexes away. Tanks and one division worth about 800 AV total have been allocated to move with the Chinese if they attempt to escape up this road. At Kunming 2k AV should be able to hold against even a much stronger Chinese force considering the supply and experience differences.

The Central Army has merged today with the blocking forces from Tuyun. These are led by Southern Army HQ and will total around 4,500 AV. They are moving into the city of Kweiyang to begin to bombard and put pressure on these troops and asses their strength. There are about 200,000 Chinese troops there of unknown composition.

In Chihkiang about 3,500 AV of troops is attempting to recover to near full strength (at full strength they should be close to 4,500AV). It's going slowly. There is an Army HQ here and good supply, but not enough as the base is in the yellow, so more is pouring in just to help out.

At Chengtu supply is beginning to flow in. The base is up to just over 2k supply. All units are now in the white. They are recovering quickly somehow.

Near Kienko the roadblock troops one hex to the NE are attempting a river crossing. Chinese that were shattered in Chengtu and have been pounded by air are attempting to get to the base but it's up in the air whether they will make it in time to challenge the crossing. Should be two more days until our troops go over. It would be great to get there first but these units are well rested, experienced and have an AV just above 1,300. That should be about the same as the Chinese, or slightly lower, as those troops were at around 2,700 AV before the attack and they lost 1,100 squads there. They can't be in the best of shape. Looking forward to seeing what happens here.

Jocke has continually adopted the strategy of trying to save troops by not fighting beyond the first few attacks in China. This level of conquest would not have been possible so quickly had he fought to the point of retreat, even though that might have wiped a few whole Chinese armies off the board. The one thing the Chinese have is numbers, and I'm even more convinced now that they have to trade those numbers for space and time. He's also facing a severe supply issue. There is no way he can support the number of troops he has now in the field.
