China has made many movies and their movie industry is getting fairly sophisticated. However, I don't think the Chinese have made any movies of note about the Sino-Japanese War. I would suspect this movie is probably heavily slanted to make the Chinese look better than they did. The Chinese Army didn't exactly have much to be proud of in that war.

Trust me, the Chinese have made loads of movies about the Sino-Japanese war, especially recently. They tend to be very dramatic and waily, and very, very anti-Japanese. Not terribly surprising considering the treatment the Chinese received during Japanese occupation, and not really helped much by the current official Japanese attitude of the conflict. However, watching these movies one can't help but get the impression that the intention is to continue stirring up a lot of bad feelings. These movies can get really tilted.

Chinese movies about British occupation don't get a whole lot better, and again this is especially so with movies made in the last five to ten years or so.

My girlfriend is Filipino with Chinese relatives, so I get to experience a lot of this.

An acupuncturist I went to back when Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was popular made the point that it and a lot of Chinese movies made today are ultimately trying to address the cultural tensions going on today within China between the large number of only children born in the last 25 years and the older generations. The only children are a lot more individualistic and the older more communal in their outlook on life.

A lot of Chinese movies address this. I suspect movies about the Sino-Japanese War do the same sort of thing. They explore current feelings and the current tensions between China and Japan in a historical setting.

Being a Kung fu flick fan, I've seen tons of Chinese martial arts flicks with the Chinese beating up the Japs.
