I just have to say this is one of the nicest programs that I have played in a long time. It really is a shame that nothing more will be done with it.

LOL you wrote that like a bot.

One of these days I'll read the new manual and try to play this against one of you.

I am hoping that enough of you fellow Combat Command enthusiasts were going to vote for Ladder inclusion over at the Blitz wargaming club. Looks like the poll expired, and no ladder...guess that there were not enough of us.

It is a tough game to play well. One can knock out the Battlefield Academy MP turns, but CCME, you need some sleep before you play

Combat Command is one of the few Matrix games I do not own. Based on your extensive review above, and Joe the bots recommendation, I am thinking I should get this gem.?

Well the game finally made it to the top of my to play list. I'm digging this game, really like the phase game play. I'm learning slowly. Just finished Carentan, back and forth battle.
I knew the counter attack was coming but still got pushed back, almost to Carentan. Retook some of the ground, but time ran out. I was really wondering whether the germans were going to break thru and get to Carentan....Good Fun

yea, but i cant say i understand the process completely yet. Like some units have to withdraw farther than others. Some you can withdraw a couple hexes and then you can click finished withdrawing button, while others have to go the whole withdrawal limit. Maybe it has something to do with the disruption level? I'll have to check the manual again see if the new withdrawal stuff is in there. I think if the unit doesn't have a path to clear the stacking limit around it, it is eliminated. Simple game, but with alot of little nuances to learn. time to re-read the manual and then back to the front. I will pay more attention to things going forward, as there was things i didnt understand why i couldn't do it. going to have to pay more attention and keep pen and paper handy.

I've been waiting for the manual done by the forum members. I don't think the game manual has the latest changes.

From what I can tell the withdraw appears to work as advertised. I am not noticing any issues at the moment.

Parusski,

Tons of scenarios, company level, with old school board game feel. It doesn't feel like a tankcentric game either. All and all a very balanced package.

You will be pushing units around in less than 30 minutes, and grasping the game easily with the excellent tutorial.

IMNSHO, it's is the best game Matrix has released in a long time, and with the latest patch, it's a no brainer buy, unless you are a graphics whore.

The editor is the easiest and best one I have seen if you are into to rolling your own. JMASS made a graphics update for it too. Max 86 and Pirate Jock were updating the manual. Joe and PJ did testing for the latest patch.

C'mon you know you want it. You can play me in a PBEM. As PJ, JMASS, and Joe will attest, I'm a pushover.

The game has not changed, rather the original manual was not as clear as it could have been.

Withdrawl seems to be working just fine.

And those factors that stop a withdrawl ( ZOC and terrain) seem to be working OK too.

So the fixes made the game act like the manual and there are not any other additions/subtractions? Thanks for the clarification.

Can someone clear this up for me. When i withdrawal a unit sometimes i can pull it back like 2 hexes then click done withdrawing, other times a unit has to withdrawal all the way, meaning to the limit of available withdrawal hexes, with no ability to click done withdrawing. Why the difference? what factors decide this. Just thought of something, maybe the have to withdrawal all the way when forced by combat, rather then when i click withdrawal targeted units or put them in withdrawal posture. Can anyone confirm or deny this.

When a unit is in withdraw posture it is given a certain number of movement points. The number of points will vary from time to time as described in section 10.7 of the manual.

It must always withdraw to a hex highlighted with green.

When it arrives at any hex highlighted in green you can click "done withdrawing" and the game centers over the next unit due to withdraw.
