So, I have Allied units in the Clark Field hex in combat,
Manila is taken, and Japanese units are in Bataan. No Allied ships in the Bataan hex.
I see this in turn popup messages and Combat Events file:

COMBAT EVENTS FOR 05/29/44

Naval Gun Fire at Bataan
Naval Gun Fire at Bataan
Naval Gun Fire at Bataan
Naval Gun Fire at Bataan

Anyone know what this means?
What are the Japanese firing at?

Are you sailing Allied ships into Manila- past the naval guns at Bataan? There's a narrow straight when you pass from Bataan to Manila- you need to take Bataan first before bringing ships in.

It would be very unrealistic to use Manila before Bataan is captured; even if the engine allows it;

just check

Even Yamato would have gotten a bloody nose had it tried to enter

Unless under a pwhex upgrade, the Bataan hex controls access into Clark Field(Subic Baay) and Manila.

You say IJA units are in Bataan, do they control the hex?

Then possibilities as above.

JeffK - Yes the IJA control Bataan. I did sail ships into Manila harbor, didn't realise that was what was going on.. none of my ships got hit. So now I know whats going on - thanks.
I control Clark Field. I landed at Naga and marched NW till I got to Clark Field - so Bataan is now isolated.

Thanks for the link Jorge_Stanbury - kinda weird because I am reading Cryptonomicon at the moment - wasn't up to the part where SGT Bobby Shaftoe dies. oops - spoiler.
