Status: offline 		The briefing is, well, brief.

Those that have every played a scenario/campaign/operation I've done know that I like expansive background material.

This briefing allows me tremendous latitude but really doesn't tell me much about the forces coming against us.

From this lack of information I'll go with the premise this is a meeting engagement. My favorite kind of action and one the Soviets have trained for more than 40 years to execute against us.

We'll see who has learned the most since our last meeting on the battlefields of Europe!

Status: offline 		The plan is to block the Soviet advance and then to attack them in their flank.

Simple.

We'll see how long it lasts before we have to revise it. Probably not long.

Status: offline 		I'm not overly fond of this extremely tank heavy force. There is nothing for it until the reserves are activated and they arrive at the front. Until then it will be Panzers vs tanks one more time in Germany!

Status: offline 		We can see the beginnings of the Meeting Engagement as the two forces start to move together.

Hopefully the flank attack force will catch the Soviets by surprise and cause catastrophic damage to their attacking force.






So far the good news is that the Soviets are moving directly toward the blocking force. If their initial hammer blow is strong enough to break the blocking forces then nothing will matter after that point.

The 12 Leo gunners sitting in 1st Company tanks are waiting with sweaty palms and wiping their foreheads with the back of their hands.

Come closer!

Closer still!

When will the Russians open fire? Have they seen us yet?

They must know that someone is around because of the two airstrikes on their column...but a single man with a portable radio could cause that. Do they suspect a battle in those open fields?

Soon we will know the answers to all our questions and even more. The biggest question of all, will I live to see tomorrow's sunrise....

Status: offline 		And then it happens. A Leo gunner lines up a Russian IFV in the sights and squeezes the trigger. Instantly 10 Russian soldiers are transformed into heroes for their cause.

The 120mm round rips through the IFV leaving it flaming mass of twisted metal with a rising column of smoke to mark the meeting of two historic foes.

Status: offline 		The Russians were determined to make the loss of their IFV worth the price of admission to the dance. They race forward to take the high ground on our left flank.

1st Company awaits them.

Steady eyes to the sights and steady fingers on the triggers. When the order is given the Leopards scream their defiance!!

The Russians learn within the first few minutes that the Germans have forgotten nothing about tank warfare since the last time they met.






The battle is not without cost as 2 of the big cats are also hit and knocked out.

Status: offline 		As the Russians try to catch the Germans before they can get set the race is on for the best firing positions.






I think the Russians will find that since WWII it's become a bad idea to have infantry carriers in the front waves of an attack.

The Leo gunners are happy to see BMP targets!!!

Status: offline 		The Soviet forces keep pushing hard against the blocking force. Applying more and more fire. The intensity of the combat raises to a new level!

Then it happens.






Soviet forces start to stream by the burning Leopards. The big cats continue to fire and to fight but they can only target so many AFV's at once.

Will the opening be enough? There are German forces behind the initial defenders. Will they be enough to stop the flow of Soviet AFV's...we'll soon know.
