(So far) A good exchange of airframes and ships for getting your amphibious TF into position and (partially) unloaded.  About as good as you could have asked for, IMO.

Turns out the Amphib group DID make Darwin even though the BB had used 750 op points??? Go figure.

Did the BB exchange fire with shore batteries during the landing? That would account for heavy use of op points after the TF arrived.

No, these were refueling op points generated from the game turn prior to the movement to Darwin, the smaller vessels in the convoy decided to steal fuel from Maryland during turn execution. Consequently, I did not think the covnoy would make 4-5 hexes so the main group was set on "do not unload". This cost a half day of unloading delay. Oh well...so far so good.

The weather guy forgot to warn us about the gnarly 20 foot waves at the landing beach. Well, it is the "North Shore"

The two Aussie divisions and one Marine regiment already ashore....along with 5 artillery units. No way they will be dislodged by the LYB's currently at Darwin.

Just what I was thinking - should be mandatory to pass surfboard training before an amphib assault since the war gods and the weather gods are in cahoots over invasion disruptus.

Re: the TBF hits - they don't really count since both those ships were drifting, burning hulks from bomb hits earlier.

Dude!

I had no idea you could surf the baseplate of a 60mm mortar all the way onto the beach!

Hey, isn't that Cpl. Dewey Weber on the left, and Sgt. Hobie Atler on the right?

Sweet!

You know, that's actually a good question. It *should*, but I don't believe that it does manifest in gameplay.

The turn is aboard the latest generation clipper ship headed WSW at 10 kts near the Azores.

Rord Admirar Nerson has apparently been released by the Apache upon his pledge he will not come back for Thanksgiving dinner.

The landing on Bathurst has not gone well. Torres St. Bn were (notice use of plural form here even though there is only one Bn...this is a curious grammatical aberration that the poor, barely literate bumpkins in the commonwealth..[except Canadians, I think]..use) ordered to seize the island but encountered some type of difficulty.

The original plan was for Torres Strait Bn. to seize the island, allowing a USMC Raider Bn, USMC Def. Bn. and engineers and AA to land with less disruption. I shall have to investigate.

********Our Lady of Perpetual Guilt Catholic Church, Bathurst Is., Dec. 27, 1942(c)************

Maj. Sparks, Acting CO, His Majesty's forces, Bathurst: <His uniform is dishevled after his tumble into the water during landing. On his breast pocket there is stenciled "Leader Rating=38, Land Rating=36". This is not customary but was put there at the insistence of his former commander who had this to say on his evaluation, "Major Sparks is an unimaginative and extremely cautious officer, although it should be said his men would follow him anywhere even if it is chiefly out of curiosity".> Father, I'm afraid I must insist.

Fr. O'Brien: Insist all you wish, my son. I will not relinquish control, at least not wihtout a properly vetted contract. What of the Marina lease rights? I'm sorry, the Tawi people will not be treated like this. Out of Christian charity your men can encamp over there at the East side of the clearing but no coconut harvesting, is that clear?
