12/15/41 What did I tell you about the nitrocellulose shortage in Japan? Yesterday one of my more powerful warships single handedly scared off a Japanes BB TF! They must have been out of ammo. I would have hunted them down, but I was low on fuel.

Oh Donner und Blitzen, it's probably better if you don't announce when your own ships sink, on the chance that I don't know for sure.

I believe this behavior might be explained by the single ship TF encouter "bug".. I have read it is a reason that many find single ship TF's screening bigger TF's as gamey ... and require at least 2 ships in a TF ...

Thanks, I was thinking it was because of her girl's name, those Japanese really don't like strong women.

I believe I know where the IJN CVs are, but thunderstorms cloak him, as might be expected from Raijin, the god of thunder and lightening. I call upon Fujin, the god of wind, to blow away these storms and reveal to me my prey.

12/16/41 Slow day, not much to report, but I believe Raijin has once again used paratroopers against me, this time to block retreating Brits heading for Singapore. This kind of behavior is really starting to p*** me off. Isn't this against the rules or something?

vontiger, is it possible that the Kongo/Haruna TF was still tasked with a bombardment mission when it encountered my Super Battleship/Battlecruiser DeathStar Joan Moller? Normally I believe, TFs with a bombardment mission revert to Surface Combat Mission after their bombardment mission is complete, but if in this case it was otherwise, this might explain the peculiar behavior, aside from the "bug" Crackaces cited.

By now you may not be able to ascertain that info, but perhaps you took note of it at the time.

Ignore that first bit about the paratroopers, he took a major road from Mersing. My eyes aren't that bad, don't know why I didn't see it.

Paratroopers are not in Malaya and I am being careful how I use them in the Philippines. Except for the drop on top of a unit I have not cut any of your forces off!!

No I checked it was surface mission, they had ammo, I suspect the bug, it actually happened a day earlier but the same Japanese TF had a 2nd crack and attacked that time. Again it was 1 AK or AKL on its own.

The last game I was going to show my air to air pilots after every 90 turns. I decided to do the first one at 10 and then go to every 50 after that.

So air to air combat except over Manila and only the P35/P26 its not been much, these planes have now been disbanded, shot out of the sky or both.

Seems all bombers/fighters have been pulled back this time and consolidated I suspect. Time will tell.

Pathetic, isn't it.

Raijin is moving much faster and more urgently than in our first game, in all theaters.

12/18/41 One of my hunter-killer ships encountered an enemy TF off Rabaul. Unfortunately she evaded the TF rather than sinking it as per her instructions. I was about to fire the captain later that day but she was sunk by Kates before I was able to.

12/21/41 There's a TF with 4 CAs parked at Rabaul and what appears to be a landing force about to arrive. Two days back Mutsu and Yamashiro bombarded Rabaul. The last time we played vontiger took Wake early and I distracted him by retaking it shortly after. His CVs (or some of them) were tied up in the area because of that. He retook Wake of course but I had a counter invasion TF waiting outside his search plane radius to retake it again! His CVs kept hanging around so I eventually sent my invasion forces back to Pearl.
Meanwhile he didn't send an invasion TF to Rabaul until I'd already reinforced it considerably. When he saw that he took Kavieng instead and set it up as a bomber base to support his subsequent invasion and capture of Rabaul, but this did not occur until late March.
I didn't think that trick would work again, and it didn't. He captured Kavieng much earlier and is blocking (destroying) any ships I send that way. He is going to be much more difficult this time around.

12/28/41 A Japanese sub took a crack at the Enterprise near SF and missed. I've received a report of 3 CV's and 1 CVE SE of Wake heading east. These are aside from the light carriers supporting the invasion of Wake.

Hey you guys......can I ask questions in this AAR? Okay, I realize that I just asked a question, I mean can I ask another one? Ooops I just asked another one. You know what I mean.

I see you're both posting in one AAR......How's that working out OPSEC-wise. I mean are you delaying your post or something? Or does it just not matter when there are breeches of OPSEC? I'm asking because Jim Moore and I are both posting in his AAR and I've already run into an OPSEC situation and had to disguise my forces in the picture.

The only case where we've delayed posting for OPSEC reasons so far is the one preceding your query. You can see the date of the screen shot is Dec 21 and I posted it after the Dec 28 turn.
And yes ask away, we may have to delay the answers though. Glad to see you here.
