I was told you have lots of WMD's and therefore you were a threat to Global peace so I thought a war would be a good solution. I do hope I hav'nt been given innaccurate intel

Derstralle, it is a bit harsh

I'd like to apologize if I offended anyone - maybe my post was not precise enough.
Of course I did not want to offend any of you guys . I used the word 'ridiculous' to describe the idea of fighting against such overwhelming numbers.

As I pointed out before: I enjoy a tough fight, even if I loose. But in this situation I only had the option to staff up my cities with defenders, do a few kamikaze-missions and wait for the inevitable. No operational warfare possible. Where's the fun in that - on both sides?

Negotiate. This is a "last man standing" game. Nothing is inevitable. The coalition against you will eventually have to fall apart. Whether it does so before or after you succumb, is partially up to you.

No offense taken here... Fun, well I've been on both ends of this kind of situation and yea, being on the losing end (if that happens) isn't all that fun. You just go on to the next game. In any one city start game it is absolutely critical to move out fast and furious. Sometimes, due to terrain and city placement, you just get dealt a poor hand. In this particular game I had to risk war early with Germania as he held at least three of my people group cities. I managed to capture 2 of the 3 before we concluded a long war between was not a good thing. Had I not done that I'd be in your situation as well.

Personally, I'm not sure I'll participate in anymore of these uneven number of players/last man standing kind of games. They seem less fun to me and players have a greater tendency to get bent out of shape, more so than in a team player game with permanent alliances. Don't get me wrong as there is nothing wrong with last man standing type of games, they just aren't my preferred style of play.

Bottom line in this game: players have to be eliminated to get to the end game. Weak players are more likely to be the one's eliminated.

Derstralle, my post was unclear.
The comment "Derstralle, it is a bit harsh", was meant to be, it was harsh the 3 ganging up on you and was not a criticism of your post.
Sorry if I offended you.

Must say It takes me back to my Childhood playing Risk, how you do in the game is more about who your friends are in the game than your skill playing the game (Tho you could argue that your diplomatic skills are a genuine skill set often more important in the real world than your Tactical and Strategic skills). So permanent alliances seem the answer. Only I have just been refused a place on a permanent alliances game on the basis of ability ):
So I will finish the games that I am commited to, and start no new ones.

To be fair Iron, theyre saving you alot of headache. Playing against people who know the outcome of every possible move presented to them can be no fun real fast. I can follow some general rules that allow me to not play guessing games over what unit will beat what, but some guys can look at two units and the terrain and know almost to the men lost, how the battle will go.

Much more popular games have matchmaking services, stats, ladders, ranks, etc, that make sure equally skilled players get into games with each other. Since we dont have any of that we have to do it ourselves. I surely would never exclude anyone from a game for any reason (id just make sure they know the risks, but I enjoy helping people get better), but I understand why the top rung wouldnt want to spend their summer playing the mid rung. That I was even mentioned and possibly accepted means alot. This time last year id been told the same thing. Maybe next time.

That being said, id love to see some other types of games. How about one of these top rung players takes on several noobs at once? The pentagon game I think is a great idea. The war at sea is pretty unique. I liked the idea of meanfckers game too where one guy plans and the others do the operational aspects.

Theres still custom maps to explore, scenarios, theres alot out there in ATG other than just getting gang raped by experienced players.

Any FFA is going to end in a gang rape of SOMEONE, its inevitable. Ive played maybe 1,200 competetive games of Starcraft and Command and conquer and those kinds of realtime strategy games, and all FFAs end the same way there too. Its like 3 player games. One player will always be ganged up on by the other 2. Itll never degenerate into a 3 way fight, thats just not how these games play out, its not how human beings think.

With that in mind, yeah I agree we probably need to start making up some new game rules in the future since it seems were risking losing valuable members of the community. (I find you ALL very valuable members of the community!)

If theres an issue amongst us friends, we need to sort it out. Thats what a good community does.

The reason I created "Pentagon". It's sort of a team game with only one winner possible.

Subject: Hot War, Cold War

I am sending this to you directly to avoid starting a "flame war" that won't
benefit the ATG community. I have allowed you to have the "last word" on the
forum itself.

Your current goal in the game, as you emphatically told me, was to assist
Sultinate in the win and secure second place. I think most players would agree
that is antithetical to the nature of "Last Man Standing" type games.

"Hot War, Cold War" would still be going on if you had not categorically
indicated you were playing for 2nd and wanted the game to conclude. Now you seem
to indicate that you were indeed in it for the long haul???

Like you, I do not play a meta-game. I take each game on it's own face value,
evaluate the current situation, and act accordingly. Unless the in-game message
is personal in nature, I endeavor to sign off as the power I am playing. In
part, to avoid the meta-game.

The meta-game was mentioned to me by Sultinate. He indicated a strong desire to
cooperate with you in "Hot War" due to the strategic situation in another game
you share. This lends credence to my contention (which you never believed) that
Sultinate was "playing" you."

The above is a E-Mail from Sailing Guy it is not a very friendly E-Mail any more will go to spam. You lost a game get over it.

Usually I would agree. However diplomacy without arms is like music without instruments, hope you get what I'm trying to say.

Hi guys,

Sorry for my absence. Unexpected out of town business trip. RL issues. Followed by a sailing vacation (starting tomorrow) without any internet access.

Sorry about all of this. I should be back to the ATG universe on the 29th.

Fair winds,
Phil

Kraftwerk is about to put a severe beating on me it appears. I've encountered a new play style in my two opponents in this game.

1) large infantry formations with many MG and/or mortar units in them (180-200 strength).
2) lots of cavalry...
3) tanks working in conjunction with the cavalry in some instances.

Looks like going after the People's Republic was not a good idea at it provoked Germania into attacking me. My intuition kind of told me that Germania and the PR were cooking up a game plan any way. Unless my "allies" put the petal to the metal immediately, I'm in serious trouble.

Good game!

Yes Kraftwerk also has strange Shaman like powers controlling the weather so that the rains fall at his command confounding his enemies. Or it could just be March and he has timed it well.
