I am an old veteran just getting back into WITP. Can someone tell me basically what the WITPTracker does? Is it the type of thing where I would be better off not using the Tracker at this point and concentrating again on the basics and relearning them or is it so useful that I should get into the Tracker right away? Is the installation and operation relatively simple or are there potential problems there? Any useful tips will be respectfully appreciated,

As one of the dev's, it is probably not needed for Allied players until you've got the basics down. I say this because there is a lot of information contained in Tracker and I wouldn't want to confuse you more in a situation where there is information overload anyway. Having said that it is fairly easy to install and get going - it's free and worth a look.

BTW I see that we now have an alert for packed and unpacked LCUs but do we now also have an alert for LCUs(AG would be great too) unloaded from TFs?

That's a bit harder, since I'd have to check every ship that has the LCU loaded on it to see if it unloaded. Or I can just alert fragment-by-fragment. Either way, it's not clean. Unless you have a suggestion...

Not sure how it now works but aren't the locations of all LCUs compared with the previous turn to see if a unit moved?
Maybe here could be done something similar, in the game the LCUs on ships are listed with location "TF X" so maybe those could be checked and an alert could be given if that changes to none TF location(or if it disappears it could indicate a LCU destroyed on sea), alert like "Y unloading started at Z".
I don't mind if the alert triggers with the first piece just unloaded, that would give the player a chance to set a mod if the unit should stay at that location, if it should move especially by strategic movement an alert if a unit has finished unloading(again by comparing and recognizing that the LCU or a split part of it isn't on any TF anymore but on land) would also by useful as the players usually want to move the complete unit and not a part of it.

floydg have you checked if my idea(alert for transport/airtransport TFs hitting destination hex) could work?

Thanks for the reply.

Can you tell me generally what WITPTracker tracks? Generally what does it do?

I had quite a bit of experience with the original WITP and played for about three months in 2010 so getting back into it will not be that terribly hard.

Does WITPTracker help if you are doing the scenarios or is it pretty much limited to the campaign games?

Yeah, your latest idea seems somewhat workable. What would I do about fragments; only show this based on the main unit starting to unload?

Well depends on if you really want to do an alert for each unit that is unloaded, for a first step it would be enough to alert that such a convoy arrived at its destination hex, from there on it would be up to the player to care about them.
Of course an alert when unit finished unloading would be great especially when big units unload in small ports what can take ages. I'm not sure how this is handled but I think more important is that a part of the unit is now on land so the player can modify the units setting like set it to unpack what would go faster(I guess) than waiting for a complete unload and ordering unpack after that.

It tracks all of the major datapoints for all units and economic data.

Honestly, it would take me longer to describe all of the good things Tracker does, compared to the time it would take you to download and install it. For more information have a look at the web page as it gives some overview of the features. Even if the web page is a bit outdated.

Sorry for being obtuse - just give it a try and be impressed.

I am getting an error running Tracker1.9.1, it seems to be a Java error, but I am able to run 1.9.0 without a problem (installed in different folder). Here's a screenshot of the Java error. I went to the Java website and reinstalled Java, same issue. Running Windows 7, 32 bit. Any ideas?

Not sure as this is very unusual. I'd say Java is faulty or an OS problem, but then you say that 1.9 works... so??

Is the Batch file different in 1.9? Can you make a new 1.9.1 install and try that too ...

I deleted the tracker191 folder and recreated it, I also copied the Batch and Properties files over from my normal Tracker folder to ensure I had same settings, and copied the same save file. Same error message. Strange.

EDIT: I also re-downloaded the Tracker191 release, in case it was corrupted somehow, but same error.

You say that you have 1.9 installed in a different folder. What is the complete path to that one? I wonder if trying to use a sub folder in the system Users folder is causing a problem.

Both Tracker and Tracker191 are subfolders of My Documents\WITP, so it should be the same effect.

Did a reinstall, Java 7. I will try it on my home computer tonight and see if I can run 1.9.1 there (have been using 1.9.0 for a while on that one).

Hi,

I have just installed Version 1.9.1 under Jave 1.6.0.31. All I did was merely backup the witptracker.jar file and install the new one directly from the zip file. I then restarted the app using the pre-existing batch file and voila, the DOS window first reported that it was updating the database and then stated it tood 73 seconds to load the database. It seems to be running as expected.

I should add that I am running Win 7 Ultimate (64bit).

@Justus2
Tracker currently doesn't work under Java 7, switch back to the latest 6 version and it should run. I had to do it too.

great, thanks! I will try that. I just tested 1.9.1 on my home computer, but it's 64 bit, and I haven't made any changes to Java on it.

Is there a limit to the number of turns that can be loaded?

I had been running 1.9 with no problems...have 117 turns loaded.

1. Tried to do a multi-turn read for the next 8 turns. Would click on Select directory and the program would sit and the pop-up with the available turns would not appear

2. Shut down the program. Rebooted the computer.

3. Tried to restart tracker and received this message:

I added the "m" and it started up....now let's see if I can detect the extra turns.

Thanks.

Yeah - sorry about that. I think you must also be using the map right? The no-map batch always uses less memory.

Yes I am using the map.

Trying to load turns 118-125.

Still no love on getting the program to respond once I click Select Directory.

So I moved turns 120-125 to separate directory hoping the program would "see" and respond with just two turns to load.

Still no love.

Tried the "nomap" option...still no love....program starts but does not respond after clicking select directory during multi-turn read.

Seeing this in the command prompt.

Tried chaning to the 384 1024 memory settings ...program starts with the 1st 117 turns but will not respond when trying the multi-turn read.

Received the same .dll 32 bit vs 64bit message with the 384/1024 settings.

Running Java 6 (build 1.6.0_16-b01)

Crud.

The aircraft errors are because of the quotes in the aircraft names -- easy to fix.
The device error is because of the large build rate (50K per month). I can fix that, too.

Please send me a save and witptracker.properties to test the fixes. Same place as usual...

Floyd

BigDuke66,

Putting quotes in things is a known trouble maker for other things too. For example if you need to dump out either the scenario files themselves or some Tracker screens to CSV type files then the " character will interfere when you go to read in the file to a spreadsheet. Most of the modders have pulled out the quotations marks (for example a six inch gun should be called 6in not 6"). It'll be a lot less trouble in the long run if you convince the modder to remove all the quotation marks.

Good luck.

Thanks I'll try to convince him.
Are ' and " the only trouble makers or there more things that should be avoided?
